Titans or Legion of Super-Heroes Game

Hi! I’m playing in some Supers games, but they’re Marvel, and I need some DC, too. I like the TITANS show as a guilty pleasure, and wouldn’t mind that as a template for a game. Mutants & Masterminds, Marvel Heroic, or even the old Mayfair or FASERIP systems could work.

If a GM wanted to run a Legion of Super-Heroes game, I’m down for story based on the current Brian Michael Bendis series…or run with what little we’ve seen on YOUNG JUSTICE, and expand on it.

In reply to smokinbarrel (msg # 1):

I could be down for playing a Legion of Super-Heroes game. Not familiar with the Michael Bendis series. Only familiar with the various tv versions.

Not a fan of the Titans series on HBO Max. I could be down for playing in a Titans games though.

I’m not rigid about Legion versions, tbh. Yeah, the Titans writing is…special…on that show, but I’m not asking a GM to follow it faithfully. More the grittier take than the cartoons.

Even a game based on Doom Patrol would satisfy me!

Not too familiar with Doom Patrol other than there is a robot and Beast Boy used to be on the team in some if not all versions.

The Doom Patrol is very much like the X-Men; both supergroups have the same basic premise of "freaks protecting a world that hates & fears them", both were originally published about the same time, both have a wheelchair-bound man calling the shots.

Differences? While the X-Men have pretty much always been all about bigotry (racial, in particular), the DP hasn't ever really gone there. In recent years, Grant Morrison injected a big chunk of Surrealism into the DP, with such weirdness as the old DP villain group Brotherhood of Evil remaking itself as the Brotherhood of Dada, and a living, sentient, transvestite *street* named Danny the Street.

In reply to Cubist (msg # 5):

Yes. The X-Men dove into the themes of bigotry, focusing on metaphors for racism and homophobia. Doom Patrol focused more on the individual experience of being outsiders. Trauma was an ongoing theme, adding existential despair and issues of identity in Morrison’s run. Morrison amplified the trauma with body horror, examining a sexual abuse survivor, and examining the Intersex experience as an act of Alchemical transformation.

I actually enjoyed the darker theme on the new Titans series.  It felt a bit more ... realistic .... I guess is the word I'm looking for.

Brotherhood of Evil I like the name. Brotherhood of Dada, what does that even mean? Are they a brotherhood of men who have kids just learning to speak? I heard of Danny the Street, I did not hear it was a transvestite. Not exactly sure how it can be a transvestite since it can't wear clothes which is a requirement for transvestitism (sp?).

Which character is that?

I enjoy dark heroes. I refuse to watch because one of the casting decisions was absolutely abysmal.

The Brotherhood of Dada referenced an early 20th Century Art movement that was an Absurdist response to World War I.

So, Danny The Street had traditionally “masculine” shops covered in “feminine” window dressing and decor. Danny was populated by social outcasts of the early 90’s, and hosted a Drag Revue at one of his businesses.

The Intersex character was named Rebis.

Which casting decision? Batman?

Last time I looked Batman hadn't been cast which was before season 1 aired a single episode.

Looking into it and it is now at least 4 terrible decisions casting and/or makeup-wise. They added fruiting Krypto in too. Barf. Including that stupid mutt is all the proof anyone needs to avoid this show like the plague.

Batman's choice wasn't bad actually from what I know of the actor. Whether or not he makes a good Batman or given decent writing is another story and not one I am willing to look into.

Guardians of the Galaxy was able to do it with Gamora and Nebula. If the Titans makeup team couldn't do it then they should have never included those characters. If the actors wouldn't do it then they should have hired different actors.

Accuracy is very important within reason. If a simple thing like makeup can't or won't be done and they insist on keeping the characters then that tells me everything I need to know about the show.

Justice Incarnate might be a good fit it would be the DC version of The Exiles or Guardians of the Multiverse.

I actually like the ethnically diverse cast myself.   And while it's not the Titans that I'm familiar with from other sources, I think it makes a good AU version.

I have no problems with ethnically diverse casts. Other than shows from the nineties that I stream I can't think of any I watch currently that are primarily cast by a single race.

Cyborg or Aqualad/Kaldur'ahm would have been better than screwing up Starfire.

Bushido or Toyman/Hiro Okamura would have been better than screwing up Beast Boy.

That is just from less than five minutes on dc.fandom.com or memory. The people in charge could/should have spent more time working on it. One can look up characters by ethnicity at dc.fandom.com.

I would have loved to see that version of Toyman. In the Superman/Batman: Public Enemies cartoon movie he built a badass gigantic robot with an appearance that was half-Batman/half-Superman.

Re: Titans or Legion of Super-Heroes Game

I think it was originally a budgeting issue. That’s why we saw a Beast Boy initially  limited to one animal form. The Batman casting was the most atrocious choice for me. He’s more appropriate for Alfred than Bruce Wayne, even if they were going for a Batman who’d aged in “real time”. Conor Leslie was on point for Donna Troy.

I agree that Superboy & Krypto are premature, but they make it work. Jason Todd was NOT needed, though, as Robin or Red Hood.

Just a reminder that the purpose of this thread is to find a GM/game - discussion/critique of TV shows, and/or the books they are based on, is off-topic for this forum.

Hmmm... I was thinking of starting up a Supers Game using FASERIP.. Might be interested in making it a street level game.

A Titans game would fall under street-level. Superboy & Wonder Girl’s Strength Feats seemed to cap out at the INCREDIBLE range. Raven might show some AM rank stunts, but everyone else can pass for street-level. I love FASERIP, so please consider it!
