Vampire: The Masquerade 5E

I would love to get into a 5e game however it seems that so far the only games in town have either had their STs disappear into the night or are full beyond capacity.

I am happy to play in a group setting but I would also like opportunities for solo play to advance personal objectives and storylines. If this ends up being a purely solo game then so be it!

As for characters I have 4 concepts that I would be interested in playing however I am very flexible and open to just about any clan or creed.

Age Statement: Yeah I can handle adult content and rpol will verify that for you.

WoD Experience: Extremely. I have run very expansive VtM (and VtR) games here in the past and I do extensive research into it. On top of the tabletop books of a variety of editions I also have played Redemption, Bloodlines, and even several of their visual novels.

Access to 5e?: Yes...somewhat. I have the core, Chicago By Night and the Camarilla/Anarch books. I know a few more have come out since then.

  1. Lasombra - Ex-Enforcer turned Shot Caller. Think Spike Spiegal meets Tony Montana. In life he came from some kind of combat background (military or cartel enforcer) embraced to be a foot soldier for the Lasombra/Sabbat (if he is even old enough to have once been part of the Sabbat) and he hated how he was used in life and/or undeath. Tired of putting his neck on the line for other people he is viewing the chaos of the Lasombra switching clans as an opportunity to run the show in town or at least jump up a few rungs so he isn't an "expendable asset" anymore.

  2. Ventrue - The King of Elysium. A Ventrue exiled from another city after he made a play for the throne and literally everyone let him down/betrayed him. His own arrogance led him to believe he had the city in the palm of his hand and in reality everyone was just mocking him so for the grand reveal in the Prince's court nobody stood up to support him. The Prince was laughing so hard he didn't even bother sentencing him. Now in a new city he has a new plan. The throne is a lie and instead he wants to be a power behind the throne and for that he wants to create the perfect and most influential Elysium in the city. A nightclub constructed from the ground up to be both the perfect court space and the perfect feeding ground. Neutral territory for Camarilla/Anarch meetups and possibly even for Supernaturals of all stripes. Think Papa Midnite's club from Constantine. The place where everything goes down and with his eyes and ears everywhere he would have his finger truly on the pulse of the city.

  3. Ravnos - Trailer Trash Fighting Fate. The Ravnos are doomed to be on the move and this greatly limits their ability to have power and influence. But just because you move doesn't mean others have to constantly lose you and you have to constantly lose your connections. The idea is a Slavic arms dealer/smuggler that sets up "pop-up" black markets around the city. Think of your "random NPC marketplace" in a video game but from the marketeers perspective. To get established he would need to do favors and establish themselves as someone worth getting an invite for. Pulling off some "impossible jobs" would get him on the map and try and flip the script so instead of him finding clients, the clients would want to find him.

  4. Caitiff/Thin-Blood - The Sleeper. This is just a fun idea I throw out there. Basically take a clanless/thinblood and max out a combat state. He just happens to be the city's best bare knuckled boxer or an expert shot or a master with the blade. Make him a combat god but then play him as the typical "ohh I don't know what's going on" caitiff until shit goes down and he solos a werewolf. A more serious and grittier view of One-Punch Man or Mob Psycho 100 where he still uses combat as a last resort and isn't overly boastful or braggy about it so he is completely underestimated by the rest of the city. Bonus points if other characters get credit for the shit he pulls off so he continues flying completely under the radar. I enjoy this because it is a completely min/maxed character but played with the exact opposite mentality. Combat is a last resort and he always seems weak and easily bullied and manipulated but then once in a blue moon he pulls off some spectacular shot that just causes the proverbial needle to scratch off the record. Bonus points if you incorporate some additional elements to this (purely as fluff) like he is a vampire suffering from demoniic possession so when he unleashes his full fury the character blacks out and has no memory of it. This would be purely fluff with no mechanical impact but would just be fun to portray as justification for his "beserker rage".

What I want out of 5e? Progress. I usually come in with a character with very specific goals. Build a nightclub, become a harpy, get revenge on X because of Y etc. and unfortunately the games usually end before I can even take more than a step or two along those paths. I have a passion for "active" characters so I would appreciate being able to push the story forward and you would just have to react to the ideas and plans I set forward. Other than that a quick rundown of stuff I would like to explore:

  • Ghouls! For some of my characters I like to have a ghoul to work as an assistant or bodyguard so that during solo scenes I have someone to work off of. I'm fine if you want to control every NPC but I also enjoy running them myself. In other games I have run multiple characters in the same adventuring party and it creates a really interesting dynamic where I can basically argue and set entire scenes with myself. I can show you an example of it if you are curious how it ends up looking but the result I think is very enjoyable based on GM feedback as it's all the fun of a party dynamic but at a much faster speed.
  • Love! Or more accurately the perversion of love from the transition of life into death. I understand the Anne Rice "vampires are sexual creatures" aspect but I don't think it works to just have them bone like mortals would. It is the feeding and exchanging of blood that becomes an act of intimacy and I feel that having that kind of relationship with your food creates some weird dynamics. Fundamentally I think a vampire and a mortal cannot love each other. The mortal is ultimately prey for the vampire and the constant mental manipulations from the Kiss corrupts the mortal's attraction into unhealthy obsession. Playing a character like "Football jock turned vampire causes his cheerleader girlfriend to go insane" would be an interesting storyline but obviously those same ideas can be translated to many other areas.
  • The Weird! I am very familiar with WoD and as such it is hard to surprise me. In the games I have run I have thrown in stuff from older editions, other games, or even just crazy Lovecraftian horrors I imagined to create that air of mystery and supernatural again. I could be a club owner that has a deal with an Ananasi living in the alley behind the club. I could be a vampire aligned with some Lovecraftian lake monster trading arcane artifacts for power and influence. Not saying this is required but just that I am open to it.

Vampire: The Masquerade 5E

I would love to be able to get into a game similar to this myself; VtM or potentially even MtA. I know I saw one here recently but it filled up extremely fast apparently. Lots of interest in this sort of thing it appears!

Vampire: The Masquerade 5E

In reply to athornton (msg # 2):

I don't know enough VtM or even MtA to get to deep into the lore aspects of them at the moment. (Huge WTA junkie) That being said I would far more prefer to play than run a game. I don't know that I have 5th edition. The latest edition that I know I have any of is 20th anniversary. For the three mains. Now if I did run a game it would be set in a relatively nearby town and would be what I call an omni-game. Basically all splat allowed. Very little if any PvP. Just because players tend to carry it on with them to their next character or one beloved character irks the wrong player who actually plays their character correctly and gsnks the beloved character and it derails the game for months or effectively kills it.  If 2 players wanted to PvP I wouldn't be against it just that I would have them basically sign a dueling contract as players.
