Looking for a GM to head up a game based on the old 80's Cartoon series

I would play Hank (the Ranger) and Sardis would play Sheila (the Thief)

Which would leave the following roles to be filled:

- Eric   (the Cavalier)
- Diana  (the Acrobat)
- Presto (the Magician)
- Bobby  (the Barbarian)

- possibly someone to play Uni or have GM run as an NPC along with the Dungeon Master.

The D&D Animated Series Handbook would be needed which has all the character stats at level 7.  I acquired a copy through my Scribd subscription which pays authors for their work when subscribers access their products.

It also has stats for Venger and Shadow Demon leaving the GM to create their own versions of Night-Mare, Tiamat, Kareena, and many other one episode characters, (ie. Sir John, Terri, The Beholder, Kelek, War Duke, Lukyon, Dekkion, Solarz, Demodragon, The Nightwalker, Varla, Kosar, the evil Demon-Queen Syrith, the Nameless One, Korac, the Queen of the Fairie Dragons, The Darkling, Martha and any number of Ogres, Frost Giants, Dragons, armys of Orcs, and well... anything at all that a potential GM wants to throw at them.)

Did they ever adapt those stats to 5E?

I think they did!  There were promotional materials that might have coincided with the release of toys; and, there's going to be artwork featuring them in v5.5, so I doubt they'd pass it up...

I would be interested if you used 5E. I’m extremely rusty on 3.5. 😬

How open to interpretation are you on this? Do you want a straight conversion — literally playing as the original characters? Or are you open to something slightly different?

One way I feel like this could work is as a d20 modern game. You make modern characters for Hank and the gang, and we RP through entering the D&d world. As you level up in D&d world, you can continue your modern classes or multiclass in your D&d class.

Taking a look at the sourcebook I am not a huge fan of the way they built those characters. I think I could do better.

5E could work... It's essentially names with classes... there is nothing truly that stands out from them except their magic items.

So, yes... If you'd be interested in GM'ing this using 5E we're game!

How would you feel about a legacy approach? Like the Cast could be the kids—or grandkids—of the original characters?

we are good with Legacy Characters... we'd still claim Hank and Shiela as whose legacy we'd play.

I assume they would inherrit their parents magic items... they would have no knowledge of them in the real world but they would appear on them when they travel to the other dimension.

I can't see a better opportunity for a DM to try the Weapons of Legacy book and create legacies for the kids.

Maybe Bobby has a tomboyish daughter nicknamed Bobbi who uses his Thunder Club as an Amazon?

The DM did give the items to the kids, right?

In fact... the kids are not that special. The powers come from the items. The important things are the items.

The blonde guy with the bow's kid can be the "wizard". The little boy with the club and the viking hat's kid can be the thief and so on.

not sure if you are showing interest as a player, GM or neither...

As to the lineage of the kids and there relationship to the magic items will be discussed with a potential GM.

As the original GM requester, my preference would be that the items are attached to their lineage... Hanks kid would get the bow... etc.

I am interested in throwing material and options for prospective DMs and players to think about.
Depend on the options the DM decides to take, I will be interested in playing the kid with the hat with lots of things.

It is good that you voice your preference on one of the options.

The items are sick! The hat should be epic!


IF we can play with the characters's kids, and we have freedom on the build, count me in with the barbarian boy and his loyal companion, all grown up Uni!

I am down with Eric's daughter if we have freedom on the classes and feats of the new kids.
Perhaps the old kids never could abandon D&D and they have gone natives of the Realm?
