Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

As of  11-16-19..this is  the new  Spell rules.

Until I can get the time and Motivation to set up the spell lists..

use the spells  from from the 2e players hand Book.

if you do not have the  2e players hand book you can use the Core players hand book spells..i know some of them are different, but the Core Book has  more " domain" type spells, which is closer to the way I want the spells to work for   mages/clerics and holywarriors  here.

the "levels " will be ( from 2e book)

Mages

TOTAL ablitiy points  up to 50= level 1 and 2  spells

   ""  ""      "      51-100=  level 3 and 4 spells

 "         "          101-201=  Level 5-6 spells

"   "      "          202-300 = level 7-8

"                     301 -600  Level 9 and may create spells.

...................................................................

Clerics

<100: 1st-2nd
101-200: 3rd-4th
201-300: 5th-6th
301-400: 7th-8th
401-500: 9th
501+ make own spells.

.............................................

Holy warriors

follow the same path as the   Clerics...except they can draw  One  Mage  spell from each level ( this needs to be noted on CS)

Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

now....

how many spells  can  be cast..

1... For Mages  you  add   your  ST..Stam..and IQ..divide  by 3, will give you total spells you can cast per day

2...For Clerics  add your  ST..Stam  and Will  divide  by 3  will give  you the  total of spells per day

3...For  Holy warriors .. St..Stamina  and  Cha.. didvide by 3..total number of spells per day

4.. Druids..ST… Stam ..Will..IQ.. divide  by 4.. total number of  spells per day

…...…………………….

Spheres   will add to effectiveness  of spells, and at times   learning new  spells

Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

so? I have been asked a few times how the  spell 'recovery' works here.

The  time  it takes  to recover  'spell power' is from  sundown, to sunup  as the Alpower has spread his power across the lands, and may now be absorbed.

If you are a Mage... The number of spells  you can cast ( based on chart) dwindle  as you cast them.. for  'round   numbers'..lets  say you have learned   10 spells  thus far... and your  chart says you can cast 8... you can  cast ANY  8 spells  you have learned.

If you rest  at night, you may get 2  'spells  per  hour' back..if you are active , one spell per  hour  back.. this frees  a spells  caster  as well as limits  them

If you are a cleric... the same applies..but  since you get your spell power from your god... you may rest during the day as well

 Holy warriors..the  same  as clerics

Druids... do have a slight  edge, as they  can rest in trees  or grassy plains, or even the Mountains, to gain back thier  spells as they absorb  the Alpower's   'mana' if you will.

Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

for anyone who casts  spells   You must list the spells you have  learned. on your CS

TO LEARN SPELLS.. you   may choose  what spells up to the number you have  ..YOU CANNOT  'UNLEARN' SPELLS

1.... List spells  up to the in Number of your spell casting Number  , divided by 2 That is the total number of spells you may have ( it  increases  as your  character grows.)

A... Mages  IQ Divided  by 2

  B....Clerics  WILL  divided by 2

C....Holy warriors  CHA  divided by 2

D..Druids,,,StAM and WILL  divided  by 2

Addendum  ::no cantrips  in this  game. too hard to regulate and keep track of..and  you vets here remember the player who  took a massive advantage  and became unplayable for some.

Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

Wait, what?

If your spellcasting stat is 20, you have 10 spells total, or 10 per casting level?

Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

how many spells you can learn , basically for level..

But..lets say you  pick  8 spells now... when you go up the next level , you have two spells in your pocket to learn.

Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

So, that sounds like 10 spells total...

Like, you can have

3 level 1s
2 level 2s
2 level 3s
3 level 4s

As opposed to

10 level 1s
10 level 2s
10 level 3s
10 level 4s.

Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

yes..more or less?... the thing i want to do... is  have spells   be able to  be sued   more freely, with out   titling the balence...Justin  took way too much advantage with the last quota... and i was  just short of  eliminating magic  altogether.

so..you  get 'x' amount of  spells  to use per day... no praying  no 'remembering'. If you  know it, you can cast it  as needs  would have it.

now..as far as spells learned..one balance is  'no forgetting spells'.. so..you learn your  quota..and you get to the next level..you can't   take as many unless you 'save up'

D&D made mages  like a cross bow.. you could fire limited  times..and limited   speeds... and only have access to certain 'quarrels' in  your  quiver.

my first attempt, and the  misuse of  such.. MAde  spell casted   Heavy  MGs.. firing off  all manner of spells.

this..is to make them more line a CArbine... you can fire off the rounds in your  mag,but then you have to reload.

Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

That explanation is still a little confusing, I must admit.

Re: Spell Casting rules (work in progress)

yeah?  it  took me a while to toss numbers  around. I wanted  more  spells.. but  not superheroes.

I also didn't want to  go to a 'non-magic  ' game, because that's part of the Genre

if able..i want to set up my own spell lists  for levels  and such, and elave  room for  characters  to create thier own..but..i can't  do that, until i  make the list..so?  we  use the  'link list' for now.
