Suggestion: Archive Function not to group 0

I love the idea of the archive function and making private lines public if you want that to be revealed, but the problem is in Mature or Adult games. When you archive a thread it makes it visible to anyone, even people not in the game.

This removes control from the GM. If I want it completely public I could move the group to group 0. If I want all my players to see it but not outside people I could move it to a common group they are all in other than 0. If I just want the players from that group to be able to go back and reference it I can leave it in that group.

Your suggestion is handy.

Though after archiving, you can always assign it to an unused group.

When you archive, it doesn't change the group. It makes it view-able to the public like anything in group 0. Assigning it a new group won't change that everyone can see it.

I just learned it myself.  And I figured it was an issue for mature or especially adult games because you could archive something and all of the sudden be in violation of the rules.

Yup.  That's one reason I've never trusted the archive function in any of the adult games I run.

Archiving should not be an issue in Mature games, since they shouldn't contain anything that couldn't be in Group 0 anyway.

RPoL's Mature Games policy:
Mature games are games which have (as some minor portion of them) mature themes, strong language, drug use, and/or extensive violence.  Mature games use the Mature Content flag to warn potential readers that some of the game material may be considered offensive.  Despite this flag, Mature Games must remain suitable to all ages.

Less of an issue sure, as you can do anything in a Mature game in a public thread, it's just a warning rather than a restriction. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable archiving a thread with extensive violence and strong language in a Mature game, but that is all preference, doing so isn't a violation.

But it is a problem for Adult Games.

Adult games shouldn't have any of the adult material in Group 0 anyway. That's in the FAQ about Adult content -- nothing in groups 0 or Public. Likewise, no adult content in the Game Intro page or any Character Description, because they're open to the public eye.

In reply to LonePaladin (msg # 9):

The issue at hand is that archived threads are automatically made visible to everyone. Even those not in the game. That means that archiving a thread in an adult game can make you accidentally violate the rules.
