Locking threads = Auto-Archiving?

It's recently been brought to my attention that if a thread is locked by the GM, that doing so automatically archives the thread.

If that's actually the case (I can't test it, but have no reason to disbelieve it), can we get those two functions pulled apart?

Sometimes it's necessary to lock a thread to prevent further posting on a heated topic, or in the middle of a combat, or what-not in order for the GM to have time to address whatever is happening without revealing all of the private lines that might exist within the thread to everyone (as happens when a thread is archived).

Locking a thread does not archive a thread.  It only keeps people from posting in it.

Archiving a thread automatically locks the thread as well as archives it.

Huh. Well then, all right. That was what I thought, but someone else assured me today quite vehemently that locking it DOES auto-archive it.

Thanks for clearing that up, Shannara. :)

It's entirely possible that some checkbox got ticked, but I dunno for sure what tick boxes are ticked by default.

Your earlier informant perhaps got confused by this language in the Edit Thread screen: "Close Thread (forced for archives)". While archiving a thread may automatically close/lock it, the converse is not true.

I have closed maqny threads as a GM, but they have not been archived.
