Can we add the ability for GMs/Co-GMs to be able to see what has been edited out of a post?  So we don't have to call in a moderator to check on things if that became necessary?

Or is 'view post previous to edits' not a feature even the Mods have here?

Editing a post completely removes the previous version, and clears it from the database.  Not even Moderators can see it.

Ah... that's.  That's less than good but I understand it from a 'database management' side of things.

If a post has been edited, there is a note attached to it that tells you when it was edited, and how much was changed.  If you have a player who consistently edits after others have posted (especially if he constantly seems to anticipate their actions), and makes large changes, then it might be worth having a word with him.

^ This indicates a fairly extensive edit, as opposed to "lightly edited" or "had punctuation tweaked".

No, mostly I'mlooking at it from a "posts something inflammatory", gets another Player riled up, edits posts before the GM (who may be notoriously absent), has a chance to see it, at which point it's a "Player A said, Player B said" sitch... which is less good and more involved to deal with.

As simple "Why are you edited everything you post so heavily?" question is one thing.

But like I said, I can understand it from a database management side, how long do you keep 'originals' lying around?  And never is fine response, I just thought the originals might be stored, as honestly?  This is the first message board I've ever heard of that doesn't keep a copy on file.

Out of curiosity, BBR, do you happen to know what makes the difference for triggering the different edited messages?

I know that many a time, I've made what /felt/ like minor edits (missed color tag, single misspelled word, missed quotation marks on speech, etc) but I've never gotten anything to appear at the bottom of my posts other than the usual 'was last edited by...' message.

jase:
Lightly edited is if you modify the spacing, non-alphabetical characters and also change the upper/lower case lettering.

Punctuation tweaked is nearly the same, but only allows a limited set of non-alphabetical characters to be modified as well as case.

There's also "updated" if you don't change any text in the message (change the subject, group etc, or just don't change a thing but update anyway!).

Theoretically there's also an "added to" message, but I think this always comes up as "edited" due to annoying reasons I won't blab on about.

All there to give the GM a rough idea of how much information was changed in a post.

Anything not listed above is shown as "edited".

As far as I'm aware, we don't keep originals at all.  Editing a post immediately overwrites the original version.

Although it's worth mentioning that in the situation you describe, even if a mod could see the original, we do not become involved in resolving in-game interpersonal disputes.

Thanks!

So, of course, I had to go test this out... <.<

Maybe I did it wrong, but I tested this in a few posts by (one at a time) adding a single space, an exclamation point, removing an exclamation point, adding a double-enter paragraph break, changing a period to a comma, changing a comma to a period, changing a capital letter to a lowercase one, and changing a lowercase letter to a capital one.

Nothing triggered a 'lightly edited' or a 'punctuation tweaked', on either responsive or the original site. All I got was 'last edited by'.

I think this feature is busted. =(

(This really doesn't matter, of course, except that the distinction of 'indicates a fairly extensive edit' for when it just throws up the good ol' standard message doesn't seem to actually be the case.)
