The world of Shahr-I'Gor is a low magic setting of a land built up in the shadows of a destroyed world. It is said that once the humans of the world came from the sky and possessed such wondrous magic that they tamed the land and bent it to their will. But their hubris became their downfall in defying the natural rhythm of life and a great apocalypse beset the towering glass cities of the ancients, renewing the world. The humans and natives of the planet rebuilt a new society slowly out of the dust, scrabbling to make a place in the world but all too often the people clashed while trying to grab resources. And then the Priest-Kings came from the sky like their ancestor centuries after the forefathers fell.
The Priest-Kings helped to organize the people into the City-States of today and codified long held practices. The people have slowly prospered but the rigid caste system seems like a prison to some and a tool of keeping the primal natures of man in check to others. Those in the higher strata constantly vie for greater power and influence, as many in the Spire who serve the goals of the High Priest earn special favor that not only give greater power but also extend life. The gifts of the god like Priest-Kings.
The City-State has become a political bonfire currently among the cast after a number of deaths among the high castes. The City Administrator as well as a number of heads of Caste have recently past away, some suspect foul play after so high a body count. Rumors circulate that a revelation is brewing in the lower caste who want to see change in the City-State, an end to the caste and Slavery system. The lands have become a power keg of uncertainty, all sides working to bring to rein the city.
This is a sandbox setting influenced by the literature of John Norman and embraced by fans who have furthered many ideas. It is a tough world which is why some choose to serve under the protection of those more powerful and strong. While the setting is pulling a lot of ideas, it is also dropping and altering some not only to ensure it all fits in with RPOL guidelines but also to bring a unique touch to the ideas. Political power plays, grasp at power and the intrigue of a strange world await. There are many positions open for players to take and fill up the world, make it their own.
