PvE / PvP: Pirates of the Caribbean Home-Brew

*Cue the Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Music*

Saturday, February 21, year of our Lord 1671

Felipe Acero, First Mate of the Sirensong recalls the battle between Admiral De Lezo and the Pirate Joseph Bruce Nicholson at the Merchant Guild's Emergency Meeting

"Can anyone here present provide this assembly with a first hand account of what transpired on February 17?"

Felipe swiftly got up, red faced and still angry. "Si! Señor! We saw the battle itself." All eyes turned towards the person who had spoken: a dark haired, dark skinned young man who rose from his seat with the confidence of a young bull. "I am Felipe Acero, first mate of the Sirensong! We had just captured Pirate Hornigold's ship and our captain had business to tend to in Curaçao."

"The chair recognizes the first mate of the Sirensong. Please go ahead Master Acero."

"When we got into Curaçao's waters, the Empress was getting ready to leave port. We made port just as she was heading out to sea when she was intercepted by the most beautiful sight I had seen in years; that cerdo Nicholson was finally going to get what he deserved for attacking España! De Lezo's ship was on an intercept course!"

Felipe's eyes had a distant look as he recalled the majestic grace with which the Spanish manowar glided across Curaçao's bay, trying to force Nicholson towards the reefs. "Any less experienced mariner would have been trapped, but De Lezo was an infantry man and Nicholson the better sailor of the two. The Empress' gunners fired her long guns as she turned towards the Spanish." A look of dismay crossed his brow then.

"Nicholson must have been preparing his crew for such an offensive, señor. Those gunners fired twice before the De Lezo could even get his cannons to bare. I counted six -- SIX!! -- shots hitting her, and the manowar lurched, her masts and haul had been torn to shreds... it was the most savage thing I have ever seen..!"

Acero knuckles whitened as his fingers curled around the chair he was holding onto. "There was no way for them to recover from that. None," he said dejectedly. "I am proud to say that De Lezo's crew tried to recover, but the damage to the Manowar was so great that the Empress managed to outmanoeuvre them, sending another cannonade into her. The manowar was dead in the water then, and Nicholson's men boarded her."

If you like Creative Writing and the life of a Sea Captain in the 17th century tickles your fancy, then this might be the game you're looking for!

The game is set in 1671 in the middle of the Caribbean, where European powers are engaged in territorial disputes and trade wars. It is therefore important to choose a nationality, and perhaps a starting port where you’ve chosen to settle in the Caribbean.

The rules are loosely based on Z-Man Games' Merchant and Marauders Board Game, where I will control the NPC/Pirate characters, and act as a referee in PvP actions that might arise from gameplay. (Yep!! You can absolutely attack each other..!!)
