Interest Check: All Fresh Must Be Eaten

I am curious what interest there is on a Zombie Apocalypse game set in Portland Oregon. I'm thinking about a game that starts in one of three phases of the outbreak:

1) It's just started to go to Hades,

2) It's been a bit since society collapsed. Like a few weeks to a few months,

3) It's been a year since the rise of the dead.

The game would be a mix of Survival/Horror/Social themes. Somethings I would like to be crunchy and some things not (which I think AFMBE handles pretty well).

Thoughts?

I think the first phase would be the most interesting. I’d be up for the game, even if it was one or the other, but my preferance is the first alternative.

Long time supporter of the game.

I'd say the the most interesting point is as the apocalypse is running up to the tipping point. When things are listing hard but have quite flipped over and actions can either make or break the situation.

Pretty much no matter what the setting or situation was, I'd br up for this.

If I’m tracking what you mean, you’re interested in that moment when the party has gathered in the church, zombies beating on the door and the “what do we do now” question is being asked. I kind of like that staring point instead of a Dawn of the Dead style beginning. Essentially the 1st option.

One of the few things I don’t like about Unisystem games is the stepped successes. I think the TT handles it just fine but it adds too many extra posts with PbP. So I’m thinking about adopting the narrative rights from PbtA games and using this for the task/test resolution; same d10 + attribute + skill

When you attempt to do something that could fail, roll+Attribute+Skill.
On a 6-, you fail AND the GM will tell you how it has gotten worse.
On a 7-9, you fail BUT, you dictate what happens.
On a 10-11, you succeed BUT the GM will tell you what complication follows it
On a 12+, you succeed AND you decide what additional benefit happens.

Do you think you both would be ok adopting that? The wording might need cleaned up a bit.

I think I’m fine with that. Don’t really have experience with AFMBE and have played PbtA just a few times, but that kind of a system fits the narrative-based games.

That's a pretty elegant transition between the two systems, actually. You should be pretty proud of that.

Personally, I have always been the most interested in when things just start to go bad, so I would vote for Option #1.

I also like your staggered system and think it would be very interesting to try out.

Re: Interest Check: All Fresh Must Be Eaten

Sweet, it looks like Zombie Fiction lives again!

Thanks for the kind feedback on the rule adaptation.

Please don't post any character concept things here as it's a violation of GPIA forum, but...

AFMBE has a ton of Archetypes; would you prefer to make your own characters and start organically? Or, have a group of pre selected Archetypes and a specific starting scenario?

Last Question: I generally build my games with Adult Ratings. Objections to that? I could see dropping it to Mature if its a sticking point.

I'm working out the game details now and will probably go ahead and post a link in the next few days.

Re: Interest Check: All Fresh Must Be Eaten

I would prefer an original start and have no problem with Adult rating. It’s usually best for a game of horror, anyway.

Re: Interest Check: All Fresh Must Be Eaten

I can probably use an Archetype - there are a ton of them (nd I have an archive somewhere of the old stuff the old yahoo groups AFMBE group built. But I can certainly build one if that;s the preference,

I'm fine with a defined "You open your eyes and see..." start, bu if we want to build it out a la Apocalypse World, I'm just as good, maybe better.
