Checking Interest in Starfinder

Hello Peeps!

I want to start a Starfinder game which will be a combination of a West Marches game where characters are not "locked in" to a group that will be a combination of Critical Role (Slayer's Take), Acquisitions Incorporated and Cyber Punk.

I would like to check to see if we have a players interested in Starfinder which is move complex system than DnD 5e but super fun for all the Science Fantasy elements. Please let me know if you are interested in playing or helping with the "lift" of Storytelling in any capacity.

I've been intrigued about Starfinder - if you get this going, I would be open to playing.

I haven't tried it myself but I'd be interested in doing so, been eyeing the corebook for quite some time now.

Count me interested too.

I played a lot of Pathfinder before 5e came out.  It would be fun to give this a try.

Same. Have the Core Rulebook but have never gotten a chance to trot out a character, & would love to be part of a shared universe setting.

Starfinder has a lot of great potential and is one of the best systems for scaling evenly at higher levels, but a lot of the content is simply not accessible to the typical starter game, do you plan to run this one as just another generic first level game or give something a bit more interesting a try?

I am thinking on a 5th level start but I was speaking with a friend and his option was concerning not "knowing/understanding" his character after another game had a higher level start.

This can be a mix of idea but I am leaning towarded the higher level start myself else I would feel guilty about all the character death. ;)

Looking at Starfinder & the earlier Pathfinder, the main difference in the early levels is that around 3-5 you're starting to really shape the character. You've got a few decent abilities and some cash in hand.

It shouldn't be too hard to make that work, as opposed to say, 'you're all nine, go hog-wild' and there's nothing stopping you from dropping another level or on the group after an adventure.

5-6 seems to be the Pathfinder sweet spot for characters who are capable but still feel a bit like beginners. I'd prefer to see this start in the 3-5 range, personally. And I think anything over 5 and I'm out.

I'd personally prefer to start at a low or at least lower level to learn the system better, it's been years since I played Pathfinder and I can see that there's some rather big changes for Starfinder.

My personal preference for new game/new system is to start off at 1st level, but let me know how it shakes out!

If it were a new game system that nobody had played before 1st level might make sense.  But Starfinder is old enough that is unlikely, and even if you haven't played it Pathfinder is similar enough that starting at 6+ level shouldn't be even remotely difficult.

In reply to Hendell (msg # 14):

In the same vein as this level 3 is a good starting point. A lot of interesting options and abilities are available by then and it's a low enough level that you can still have room to change your mind about your character's advancement.
