IC: Pirates!

Been toying with the idea of a historical fantasy setup using Sid Meier’s Pirates!

Basically, 1650 High Adventures on the Spanish Main (except with fantasy elements - magic, monsters, etc.)

D&D 5e rules but focused a lot on story and character.

Any interest out there?

I def love the premise!

Unfortunately, my current schedule does not permit me to add an additional game to my roster.

Good luck, happy gaming! :)

IC: Pirates!

Sure!
If you make a 5e game you won't have trouble finding applications :)

Back in the day ICE published a sourcebook for a historical/low fantasy Caribbean setting, which I recall being pretty good: http://rpgreview.net/node/187

I ran Skull & Shackles, the pirate game for pathfinder. We found that as the players got more powerful, the ship and the crew didn't matter very much. I hope you are able to find ways to mitigate that.

I'm a little surprised you want to create a game set in more-or-less historical Caribbean. All the colonies were founded on human misery. Not what I would call a fun setting. For my pirate game, I've made it a lighter tone setting.

I actually consider that a mark in its favor, LordIce. It's a lot easier to justify the pirate
as the "good guy" when basically everyone else is profiting on human misery.

It's also worth noting that Bod Man mentioned Sid Meier’s Pirates! as an influence. That game is fairly light in tone, IIRC, with no defeated captains actually dying in battle.

To be fair, probably closer to Pirates of the Caribbean. Historical fantasy based on the real world. Magic exists, though most people think that it is fake or mumbo jumbo even while being superstitious.

The plan is to build the campaign and story around the characters and their backgrounds.
