IC: 7th Sea 1e or 2e

I have a hankering for running another game but making sure the interest is important.

I am curious if anyone would join a 7th Sea adventure. I am very experienced with 1e and I have game mastered a 2e but to be honest wasn't my favorite rules. I think 2e probably works better on here than 1e since rolling is much of what happens.

What say you, would anyone be interested one-shot or alike?

Maybe after I've finished reading the quick start rules I have. They're in German, so it might be a while.

Wow. I guess people really want a 7th Sea game. I have two people for sure interested in 1st VS 2e.

My only concern is that second is more cinematic and works for the play by post. 1st was very rules intensive. I am sure it could be done but I need to refresh my memory on somethings before I would commit to first edition.

IC: 7th Sea 1e or 2e

So here are my thoughts.

First, I like the setting of 1 more than 2. I don't want to play in Theah fifteen years later. I'd rather use the original setting with modified rules from 2e only because of the following:

* Tracking initiative is a joke on this. It would never work. Not only would you have players lose turns because they didn't post for the days but it would take forever to complete combat compared to part 2e.

* While they did make some changes to certain nations, I'd be happy to work with people who want to revive them and bring them back using the current rules set of 2e.

* Not tracking weapons/armor/etc is a good thing and makes the game easier this is one thing I enjoy about 2e over first. If you are looking for the most bad ass weapon there are ways we can make weapons do certain things to give advantages or disadvantages.

* Active defense makes me force rolling every time a hero attacks. Again this is a better change.

* Magic is better overall.

* Swordsman schools need a boost, so rather than stop at one 3 point total. I will convert Journeyman and Master to 4pt and 5pt advantages if I can.

What do you say? Anyone interested now? Basic idea is 2e rules with 1e setting.

I prefer the original setting too - even before 1e added the Montaigne Revolution. The original was already a pastiche of the 16th & 17th centuries stuck together; the changes tried adding the 18th century as well, which was getting too much for my suspension of disbelief :)

I think the original had a lot going for it that the new one does not. There are so many story arcs to examine that I really think they could've padded the original more.

Honestly, I've had no trouble playing 1e over PBP.

I get it. But sadly second edition just does it better to me. So I would likely use the ruleset from second and try to convert things over rather than just using 1e.

Yeah, he said 2E, sadly. I own the PDFs but haven't really read them.

Re: IC: 7th Sea 1e or 2e

I am thinking about doing the best of both worlds. Starting an all in one 7th Sea game that includes both 2e and 1e.

It would be separate stories and obviously separate timelines but if the heroes do something really epic it would be cool if it influences 2e later on in the game.

I'll let you know when I have them up.
