Troika! Exquisite Corpse Edition?

Hello!

I'm new on the site. Right now I'm just trying to get my bearings and maybe find a 5e game to play in, but in the meantime, there's another project I'm interested in working on. I guess I'm posting now just to see if there's any interest for such an idea in the community.

My idea is to set up a (hopefully) perpetual game of Troika! with a revolving cast of players and GMs. Rather than an exercise in creative world building or character development, it would be more of a pure storytelling and improv game.

I would create two queues, one for prospective players and one for GMs. Four or five players would be playing at once. Any time a character dies, or if a player ghosts or decides they don't want to play anymore, the next player in the queue rolls up a random character from the Troika! SRD and jumps in to the game.

I would probably start the game by running the intro scenario from the Troika! Numinous Edition module. Subsequent GMs can run their own material, another module, or just continue the story in improv fashion. I think it'd be good to set some kind of limit to keep the GMs cycling through somewhat regularly.

I wouldn't try to limit anyone to any particular genre, but I really like the kind of absurdist, surreal, Miyazaki-ish feel of the The Blancmange and Thistle module, and I think Troika! as a game is well suited to that kind of off-the-wall fantasy. (Douglas Adams, I think would be another great inspiration).

If it seems like there are enough people on the forum interested in a game like this, I'll get to work on preparations. If anyone with more experience on the forum likes the idea and has some advice or ideas for realizing something like this, please let me know. Thanks everyone! I look forward to hearing from you!

Troika! Exquisite Corpse Edition?

I will give it a try as a player, but that would be my first Troika! game and I will need lots of guidance.

Troika! Exquisite Corpse Edition?

In reply to Yaztromo (msg # 2):

Cool! I have to say, it would be a learning experience for me, too. I bought the Numinous Edition a while ago and I've tried a couple times to get my family to play with me, but no luck so far.

Here's the SRD for anyone who's not familiar with the game https://troika-srd.netlify.app/#/

It's pretty simple and forgiving rules-wise. There are three ability scores, two types of rolls (a roll against your skill or a contested roll), a mechanism for improving skills, learning new skills, and inventing new skills that don't exist in the SRD, an interesting initiative system, and a weirdly specific inventory and encumbrance system. Then there are 36 pre-designed character descriptions a nice bestiary and some guidelines for designing new characters and beasts. It's short and sweet. I think it's really well tailored for creative and collaborative story telling.

I think I'll start putting something together bit by bit. It won't be ready to go anytime very soon, but I will post here with any updates.

Troika! Exquisite Corpse Edition?

I'm OK with the basic game mechanics (they are the same as Advanced Fighting Fantasy / Fighting Fantasy, that I play very often), but I don't know how to manage the rest.
