Easy Mapping Help

Hi.  I'm new here and am wondering what's an EASY way to do maps?  I need something that's easy and quick to update because I'd like to run a D&D game.  Updating a map and uploading it to a hosting service multiple times a day would kill my drive to keep a game going.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Roll20 seems to be a good go-to.

In reply to zeone3000 (msg # 2):

Don't you have to invite players to that game so they can see the map though?

Easy Mapping Help

I have been here  for a  very long  time.. Maps  and Pics  are my weak spot. I have had players   give me links and such to do picd  and  Maps..but? i end up scanning  hand drawn  and  getting them into the map section.

for some reason? i just can't grasp the   idea of how to use  these  things.

My advice:
  • Draw them on paper / get them on your computer screen
  • Photograph then with your phone
  • Upload them to an image server (ideally one that will give you the images at defined resolutions like 640x480)
  • Link them

I also use JAVE (Java Ascii Versatile Editor) which lets you drop maps in ascii art as easy as paint, and you can then just cut and paste the ascii art in (Don't forget to use <tt> tags)

The obvious answer would be to do things in such a way that you don't need to use maps at all, but if that is not possible than I second the previous suggestion of using Roll20. You don't necessarily have to invite them manually, just give them the invite link (they still have to set up an account if they don't have one, though). That's how I do it.
