Questions about pathfinder 1e games

I was curious about a pathfinder games on rpol.net and have some questions.

1- what setting do people tend to prefer?  Do you use the standard pathfinder setting, does anyone use dnd settings like faerun or eberron?

2- does anyone have experience with gestalt in pathfinder?  I like gestalt games in 3.5 dnd, and I am curious about people's experience using it in pathfinder.   I don't need to hear why you personally don't like gestalt games, just want any input from people who have actually tried it with pathfinder.

Settings
People use all sorts. Homemade, commercial, pathfinder, cobbled together, greyhawk. You name it

Gestalt.
Works great if you like gestalt. Very interesting characters. A little more powerful than normal, but since the GM sets the difficulty that rarely matters. It's particularly good with small teams. Small teams often mean faster posting, so the game stays alive longer, and the gestalt means that there are no major gaps

Most people with gestalt seem to say 'one of the classes must stay the same'. So if you are level 10 you would be level 10 in one class and the other level 10 can be in anything (mix/match/whatever)

Yep, you could find Pathfinder games of every setting. It is considered 3.75, so the D&D settings were the first things that were adapted to it, rather easily.

And because it is 3.75, gestalt in Pathfinder is no different than in 3.5. People try to find synergies between the classes. Pathfinder also has hybrid classes, but really, if you didn't find problems integrating Beguiler into a gestalt game in 3.5, there is no reason why you couldn't do it with hybrid classes.

Questions about pathfinder 1e games

I'm currently playing Pathfinder for Eberron and Gamma World, among other games. It works well for any setting that D&D uses (and you can just port over Product Identity if you need to use cool stuff like illithids).

I think that "one side must be single-classed" is something people do, I'm not convinced that it actually adds anything. Then again, I single-class in Pathfinder much more frequently than I did in 3.5, despite multiclassing being easier than ever. (In part because you don't have the situation where prestige classes are strictly better than the base class - Sorcerer, I'm looking at you!)

As for hybrids, they aren't an issue, and I wish the "hybrid class" designation had never been born. A hybrid class, to a greater or lesser extent, is designed to do its own thing even if it uses spell lists and mechanics from other classes.

You could do any setting with Pathfinder, really. As for gestalt, it can be crazy fun. PF has more of a focus on base classes, where 3.5 had tons of prestige classes. And PF has better rewards for sticking with a class all the way to level 20 rather than multiclassing -- so there are tons of interesting gestalt possibilities.

The process of creating a character is a bit overwhelming in Pathfinder, with the many archetypes and special abilities and etc. to choose.  Adding Gestalt to the mix nearly doubles it, unless you're prohibiting archetypes.

Thanks for the information.  One other question, has anyone used eberron with pathfinder?  How did you adapt the dragonmarks?

Have played. And why would they need to be adapted? Pretty sure all the spells translate between editions.

The main thing in running Eberron I can think of is that Psionics Unleashed is probably mandatory (and Occult Adventures is conversely a bit unfitting), since psionics are a fairly major setting element and kalashtar are a core race. As usual, add some +2 attributes to Eberron races to update them to Pathfinder level.

I guess I was meaning things like the dragonmarked classes.  I didn't think they all transfered without adaptation, so I was curious how people may have adapted them.

And yeah, I understood you'd need to introduce psionics for that aspect of the setting.

If every player is dragon marked it's no big deal. If no players are dragon marked it's no big deal. If some are and some aren't then you will have to decide how you want to handle it.
