Anyone ever played Everway?

So I am very new to RPoL but not to roleplaying games. I am currently running a weekly Dungeons and Dragons game but was looking to get online to explore other settings and other systems.

My favorite game system is called Everway. It uses a tarot like deck instead of dice and has a character creation system that is pretty open ended. The default setting is folk lore fantasy that involves traveling to a lot of different worlds.

I know that there is a dice roller but I am not sure how to handle using the deck online. I am willing to figure it out if that is the kind of game someone might be interested in.

In reply to Alyse (msg # 2):

There are elements of character creation that would make it pretty perfect for playing online. It use to be the only system I used about 10 years ago but its been forever since I have played it.

I saw Jonathan Tweet promote his upcoming new RPG at an Origins Game Fair and bought it as soon as it was available.

It’s a lovely system and beautifully crafted. I ran it a few times and found it played wonderfully.

I’ve played it, online and face to face.  And it is a really good game.

Long ago I wrote a Perl script to handle card draws - I may still have it somewhere.  But since the GM draws cards that needn’t be an issue in play by post games.  (You could also draw in advance and maintain a list locally or in the scratchpad here).

The only issue with online play is the Vision card art.

It's pretty cool that other folks on here v have played it. It's a fairly obscure game.

I agree that vision cards would be difficult but I think you could find ways to manage that. I have always found the real best parts of the system were character creation and the deck.

I think I will start building the start of a story and maybe after I play something on here to get a feel for things I will run something.

That just makes me want to run something right away LOL. I will look around on the site and get a feel for things.

I think I could start something small fairly soon. We could build a story about trying to reaching the City of Everyway so the world building could develop as we go.

Isn't it possible to request tarot decks as a dice roller method?

It turns out that it is, but actually you don't even need to request. It has both the full deck and the major arcana options.

Everway's cards are distinctly not a standard Tarot deck. One option for online Everway is for the GM to have a spreadsheet with (one) column being a list of cards, and (two) a second column being =rand(0). To shuffle the deck, hit Recalculate, and then Sort by the rand(0) column.

As I recall the game runner interprets the cards. So the Rpol tarot deck can be rolled against a list of equivalents kept by the game runner and/or posted as a thread.

Or someone can simply ask jase to create an Everway Fortune Deck for the dice roller.

I have started making the game. I am pretty excited. I do need to work out how to do the Fortune Deck. Would it be possible for it to be added to the dice roller? I am new to this site so I wasn't sure.

I called the game Everway:Shadow of the Walker. I am not quite ready to start but if someone could give it a look and let me know if I am headed in the right direction. It is very much a work in progress but my hope is to open it for character creation by the end of the weekend.

My idea is to start the game on the fringe of the multiverse in a single world. I really want to build the world with the players as we go. I am borrowing several concepts from the Everway world but I want to create something that is our own.
