*Steeping back a step and drawing his longsword, Gorns holds back his arms to suggest every stop.

Be careful everyone, something is not normal about this woman.

Polite as can be, Ligeia asks the spectral gardener, "Can we pass through the gate? We promise not to trample upon any of your lovely flowers."

Jenouise stopped in her tracks, looking at the exchange, her head slightly cocked to the side. Her blue eyes darted to the gardener and then to Ligeia.

The apparition looks on you all, an elderly woman from the looks of her.

She speaks in a voice, though audible sounds like a long way off, as though from someone stuck at the bottom of a well.

If you are too lazy to plow don't expect a good harvest -she muses almost to herself

Fixing her eyes on the group she looks longing on you saying-

  Help... usss.. help .. ussss

What are we to help you with?  May we go in through the gate? How do you survive here in such a dangerous place?

We are all trapped here, as is any soul who dies on these cursed grounds.  We long to pass to the afterlife, but are trapped here by dark forces...

she looks around as if frightened..

I cannot stay... helpppp us help us...

the old woman disappears..

As if by magic a wind comes by and knocks the gate off it's hinge letting it sway open...

Wordlessly, Ligeia passes through the gate. She and the others had received this message from more than one cursed harbinger. The lord of this manor had only given thought to his own weal when he had inked his dark contract.

Rubus says One moment. I'd like to shut the gate from this side to discover if it opens by itself again.

Ligeia passes through the gate and Rubus closes it.  It clicks with a latch.  The gate does not open by itself again.

The area beyond the gate has a low hill which then dips inward into what seems to be an open field.  there is a line of trees, now leafless and barren going west.  The wall 3' high goes to the west and south.  All is quiet.

Interesting. Rubus regards the gate. If it's made of wood, he asks If it wouldn't be vandalism, could the gate material be used to so we cna bring the wagon across the bridge?

Rubus nods his satisfaction; his calculations showed a favorable result. If we want to, the gate parts will do quite nicely as a sort of patch that will allow the wagon to cross.

Ligeia considers Rubus's idea. While she definitely believes it has "merit," she's not so sure it's worth the effort and possible risk.

"If the manor now stands before us, which it nearly must, the wagon is fine where it is. It's not like any of the living will molest it or any of the dead, care to. Let's just track south a bit to get the lay of the land."

I agree with Ligeia. If we bring the cart here it's not much safer than if we leave it there, maybe less so.  What say you clown lady; it's your cart?

"It's my home," she corrected, holding up an index in a matter-of-factly way. "We can leave it there for now. I doubt it's going to get messed with," she shrugged.

Following Ligeia's lead the group enters the gate and moves south through the mist.  They find a small rise and cross over it descending into a flat field.

To the West in the mist you hear something moving towards you it sounds like perhaps a horse at a gallop.

what do you do?
