Hi there.

As you all know, the portrait gallery has become quite large, and we add new submissions of 20-30 per week.

One of the most time intensive parts of this is 'trying' not to add any more duplicates in the gallery, as well as trying to provide as diverse, and useful, a gallery as possible, while also making sure that the pictures we add are as high a quality as possible given size/bandwidth considerations.

For some time, ThePixie and kylebishop have been helping tremendously with this, but as real life eats into their time and energy (as well as mine) we could really use some help.  Kaspar has also volunteered to lend  a hand.

Therefore, I'm coming to you ... to see if any of you want to become more involved in the 'portrait' process.

There are two things that I would love some help on:

1) Vetting submissions against the current gallery for duplications / similars.

Needed Someone who is very familiar with the gallery and able and willing to turn "I think this may already be in the gallery" to "This picture is/isn't in the gallery and should/shouldn't be considered.  No editing experience is necessary, but it would be helpful as it would be wonderful if you could step if the rest of us are busy.

Qualifications:  Must have the time to look thru the gallery on a regular basis.  There is a site where the current gallery is maintained for ease of hunting.  Anal retentive / compulsive-obsessive qualities a plus.  If you don't have time / get easily bored and aren't willing to give up AT LEAST an hour or so of time per week to the task most weeks, please don't apply.

Talking to 2 volunteers for this now, and that should be enough.  I'll put out a yell again if needed, and thanks to the great people of rpol for being ready, willing, and able to lend a hand.

2) Quality Control

You may have noticed that there are some pictures in the gallery that are not very good quality, particularly the earliest additions when the portrait editor was building the gallery from nothing in a hurry.
