Is this intentional? (GM PM Inboxes linked?)

As a co-GM in a game, trying to clean out the mass of old PMs in the PM inbox, I'm getting a message stating that if I delete the messages from /my/ inbox, it will delete them for /ALL/ GMs.

Is that intentional? I know that if a player deletes a PM, it doesn't vanish from a GM's inbox, so why don't the GM inboxes work the same way with regards to other GMs?

not sure how the rules our... but the  MAIN  GM is in charge of the   game, your Co-GMs  are under you... you would have to  turn the game over to them, for thier   PMs  not to be  deleted.

I'm sure others know more  though!

Yup, that's how it's programmed.  :>

Off the top of my head I can think of a few reasons why jase might have set it up that way:
  • it mirrors how normal email systems that have a shared inbox works (at least the ones I've used, anyway) ... anyone set up with permissions can view the inbox and reply to/delete/etc messages
  • reduces duplications ... in a game with many co-GMs and a lot of players, creating a separate email for everyone would soon add up
  • makes it nice and simple to handle if co-GM access is removed - the player just loses access to the GM private messages, the system doesn't have to hunt down and kill every old message they have that they received in their old capacity as co-GM

That makes sense, just also a little annoying to have to keep /everything/ around for every GM, instead of just letting the primary GM keep copies of no-longer-needed PM threads just in case. I hate a cluttered PM inbox.

...I'd speculate here as to whether or not there would be a way to archive PMs and force them to hide if inactive, or onto a second page or what-not, but if every GM can alter what any other GM can see on their own PM page, it's probably irrelevant. Oh well. Thanks. =)

Over in the RPoL Development forum, users have requested the functionality to create folders to group/store/archive threads/private messages which as you say might help ... but not sure where that is on jase's to-do list, which is probably already infinitely long and just getting worse.  ;P

I have a PM thread from The NPC that is my character, to the name of  the character i use as the Main NPC..

i PM myself....In that thread, i put lists  of player  Info..character info..all kinds of   things, that i can access  myself   if i need to check  (( 'Happy  Game B-day to 'Drogo" , things like that))

if you were to do that ( and suggest the other Co-GMs  do that)..you could  then delete  the message  while cut and pasting things  that you need/want?

It may be a bit of work, but it will clean things out.
