Question/Bug? with regards to character highlighting.

This is almost certainly a nothing issue, but I realized it a little while ago and it's been driving me bonkers because I can't seem to figure out the /why/ behind it - so hopefully someone else can explain it!

So...when I post in a thread, my PC's name is usually highlighted in a different color (for me it's red, not sure if it's red for everyone or a by-product of my color scheme) over on the left side of the screen, where portraits, bio lines, etc are. This is true in 9/10 of the games that I'm in, and was true in every other previous game that I recall ever having been in.

Except for one of my current games where I play multiple characters. One of them never gets highlighted, in any thread.

Anyone have any idea why that is?

Have you posted as that character, yet?

Yep. Repeatedly, in public threads and PMs, and it's a character that has always been mine, so no issues with it being transferred from another player.

Are you and another person a GM in said game? Because that usually happens when you're a GM and there's another one int he game as well. Both GMs are able to control everyone's characters so it doesn't come up red because GMs have access to the entire cast.

Question/Bug? with regards to character highlighting.

It did cross my mind as that being a possibility, but in other games where there are multiple GMs and I'm one of them, I don't have the issue. In those games, every character that is directly assigned as mine does properly highlight their name when they post.

In case it was a new glitch, I went and created new PCs to assign to myself in one of the games that I GM where I didn't have another PC besides the GM persona, and was unable to duplicate the issue there, either.

(Edit for clarification: I'm not referring to my making a post *FOR* another character that doesn't belong to me using my GM powers and having it not highlight, I'm talking about making a post with one of my characters that is assigned to me as the user, and not having it highlight.)

(Secondary update: Had the other GM in the game check to see if they would ALSO not get name highlights on a non-GM character assigned to themselves, and it's doing it for them too - but *ONLY* in the same game where I'm affected. Is it possible this is a game-specific glitch somehow? If so, what on earth would cause it?)

Question/Bug? with regards to character highlighting.

I was going to suggest that you're a co-GM in the game where you're not getting the highlighting ... in fact, I'm surprised that the mileage is different in the other games where you're also a co-GM ...

Can you rMail the moderators with the name of the game where you're having the problem, plus one of the other games where you're a co-GM and you're not having the problem so we can take a look at it.  :>

Question/Bug? with regards to character highlighting.

MYSTERY SOLVED!

Through much testing, Skald and I have confirmed that the issue is tied to PCs with the character tag of 'player' belonging to someone with GM access. Specifically 'player', all lowercase, whether by the default upon character creation or being edited back to that after the fact. Any other character tag, including 'Player' with a capital 'P', produces names that are highlighted when posting. Characters with 'player' tags that belong to a GM will not highlight for them.
