7 yrs old but much wiser for his years as he has looked after his mother being protective of her for she is all he has in this world.

Jacob is the son of Leonia Somersby but does not know who his father truly is.  He has been told that his father died when he was but two years old.  Died in the service of the Confederate Army.  This is not the truth but one that Leonia keeps to herself.

He is dearly loved by his mother and they have travelled since his father's death.  They ended up here in Laredo and the good Mayor has given them a Bakery Business to run with a home above.  There aren't many children in Laredo, mostly rancher kids that come into town from time to time and he has made friends.
