Temple of Ashmere 20 - The Inner Sanctum

2 Days Until Earthrocs Must Return

39 Days Remaining to Return to Ailamere

Time: 5:30 a.m.

25 rounds until Bernard is doomed to hell

7 rounds until Tarimar's forces are released

THE GATE

The path of granite floors leads forward.  You do notice as the light touches the walls that the shelves of skulls begins again, creating a wall of skulls staring at you from every side.

The corridor expands to about 15 feet wide, and the ceiling rises suddenly, disappearing into darkness as it rises to a point far beyond your vision.

You make your way forward to a closed door ornately carved in stone.  It is a 10 foot wide set of double doors, closed and preventing further progress.  They are heavy, ancient doors, and there appears to be no handle.

On the left door is inset a shelf, as though for an offering.  It is carved into the door itself, and the place where the offering is to be placed is a round hole about 12 inches across.

Above the shelf, carved directly into the door itself, are the following words, which Azaron translates for you:

One last test for the faithful acolyte,
Requiring a sacrifice hard for the most selfless to give.
Place here that which the selfless want above all else,
A gift that the richest men need,
But that which the gods cannot give.

Inside the hollowed out shelf, on the back side, is a valve-like knob that must be turned.  (In other words, you place the sacrificial item into the hole in the shelf, then reach back and turn the knob.)

The right side door has a completely different layout.  In the center of the door are three round dials, each with 6 letters evenly spaced around them.  The dials work like this:  You pull out the dial, turn it as desired, and then push it back in to set it.

These are the characters on the dials:

Borimer eyes the doors, wondering if even his strength could open them without solving the riddle. Sighing inwardly at yet another cosmic riddle he has yet to understand, the warrior unconsciously grasps the hilt of his enchanted blade and waits for keener minds to step forward once again.

"Do we even have what needs to be put in the hole?" Grizz asks aloud.  "If so, it appears our priest or paladin should do it.  They're probably the most selfless here."

Adaran studies the dials for a few moments and then reads aloud, "Open Me."
