Bugs in the System 1-11

You all head cautiously down the elevator to the maintenance room.  Here it is again for you to look at.  The elevator is in the center sort of like a number 8.  The white area is the walled off area.

You step out into area M8 from the elevator:

M8. Workshop
Envt: P = Std; T = 20; O = Std; G = 1

This room contains the standard machine tools (lathes, laser cutters, drills etc.), benches and other gear normally found in a small, maintenance workshop. Repairs carried out here do not suffer from the chance of breaking down that applies to repairs "in the field".

There are two external hatches here, leading to workpods (a one-man, self propelled, short-range space craft, used for carrying out repairs in space).  Both hatches have warning signs.

At one side of the room is the Term-5 computer terminal. Nearby is the M/MT (Maintenance) computer.  (Where it says M/MT is the maintenance computer with an access panel.)

M9 is an airlock to protect the crew from radiation and other dangers of the nearby engines and access corridors.  (You can assume they have the special radition and spacesuits "innsuits" like you found in the Jetsom airlocks.)

Yag gruffly agrees with Sergi's suggestion and sets to work on the maintenance computer.

Re: Bugs in the System 1-11

Yag goes to the computer while Sergi and S'Krllk go to the airlock.

No sooner does Yag start looking at the files and examining the access panel, when the door to the airlock opens before Sergi and S'Krllk can push the button to open it.

From out of the airlock comes an AUD-1a engine maintenance robot.  The files had shown that it works on the engines where it is too radioactive and dangerous for humans.  It has a simple, upright cylindrical body with a video/audio sensor array mounted on the top. It has a multi-sensor probe as one of its limbs.  (The multi-sensor probe is a set of instruments that allow AUD-la to monitor the workings of the Moneyspider's engines.  The AUD-1 is a level 3 maintenance robot.)

When it steps into the room, you see that it carries two metal bars, as if going about its normal business and entering from the engine area.  It does not do anything menacing.

Not caring that it appears nonhostile. Dr. Kri'lik draws his laser pistol and keeps it at the ready. Looking to the rest of the group he says, "I'm of the mind to disable this bot even if it is not infected. It's the only way to be sure."

"Grrr. For the love of Xyligor, that would be me. All of you, weapons on full and ready to blast that thing if it tries to attack me."

When everyone is in position Yag approaches the robot, seeking to open the control panel and deactivate it.

Yag goes forward to disable the robot, opening its back panel.

The robot is moving toward the computer terminal.

You all are starting to feel sick and nauseous.

Yag actually has to stop what he is doing to bend over and vomit on the floor.

Unfortunately, the elevator refuses to open for you.

The screen next to the elevator is flashing red the following:

The "R=5" is flashing quickly.

Kri'lik notices the two docked worker pods. Since the elevator will not open he makes his way to one of the pods and tries to open its door.

OOC is the robot moving towards the group? Does it need to be taken down to keep the radiation away from us?

Next to the door of each pod is a warning that says:

"EXTREME DANGER: Pod Unsuitable For Use Except In Zero-Gee."

However, the doors on either will open if you want to get in.  Which one is Kri'lik trying to open?

OOC: The robot is moving toward the computer/elevator area, which is in the center of the group.  It is not acting hostile.  Distance, walls, or a radiation suit will protect you from the radiation.

S'Krllk attempts to skirt the walls and stay as far from the robot as possible while he makes his way to the area with the terminal. If the robot actually enters the elevator (which is what S'Krllk thinks it will do), then he'll be protected from the radiation.

The professor opens the left pod door and readies himself to jump into it if the droid moves his way. Hes of no use to the rest of the group if he dies of radiation poisoning and he figures the pod is designed for space operations so it should be shielded.

The professor opens the pod door and looks inside.

S'Krllk finds that the robot is between himself and the elevator.  In fact, the robot is standing right nearby.  However, he can probably squeeze by if he risks touching the radioactive thing (which would be an extr +2 damage if he misses a DEX check).

Yag, S'Krllk, Desiraye, and Kuurn go to the airlock away from the robot.  Kri'lik is standing immobile near the pod, staring in silently.

The airlock door is currently open.

The robot does not follow you into the airlock.  Rather, it starts moving toward Kri'lik, obviously protecting the computer system and regarding anyone in the room as a threat.

Everyone loses 5 more STA due to radiation poisoning.

Re: Bugs in the System 1-11

The moment Kri'lik says this, a laser beam flies from inside the pod, hitting Kri'lik just before he can get the pod door closed -- those darned, slow mechanical doors.  (24 damage -- less if you have a proper protective shield)

Once the pod door closes, a release button from inside is pushed, and the pod is flung away by the artificial gravity of Moneyspider.

You all put radiation suits on.  The robot stays near the computer terminal.

S'Krllk investigates the engines.  The engines look like normal engines with nothing wrong.

OOC: Here's what the official description says:

Characters without special spaceship engineering
skill will not understand the workings of the
engines, and cannot repair, operate or modify
them.
