Re: OOC: Table Talk 4

After much vacillation, I'm going with the classic elf archetype, fighter/magic-user.

DMStorm, please set up Protégé 1 with the character name Shale, which is short for a much longer Elven name that would baffle your thick tongues.

Interesting that the first group was mostly human while this group is mostly demihuman multiclass...

Without level limits, I didn't see any reasons not to multi class.

Miralla is currently Neutral but if I do turn her into a priestess of Avandra she'd probably be Chaotic Good.

Re: OOC: Table Talk 4

Do the OSRIC weapon specialization rules mirror those in the 1st edition Unearthed Arcana? It seems the bow specialization is overpowered. But I'll take it, if available.

Re: OOC: Table Talk 4

In reply to Shale (msg # 16):

From OSRIC p.14:

WeaponSpecialisation(optional): Withthepermission of the GM, weapon specialisation may be selected dur- ing character generation. If weapon specialisation is not selected during character generation, it remains forever unavailable to the character, barring some magical or di- vine intervention.
If weapon specialisation is in play, fighters may take a sec- ond proficiency in the same weapon as the first, granting them one extra attack every 2 rounds with the weapon (hence 3/2 attacks with a melee weapon at 1st level, 2/1 at 7th and 5/2 at 13th), +1 to hit and +2 damage owing to their skill. Specialisation costs one proficiency “slot” for melee weapons and crossbows, and two “slots” for missile weapons other than crossbows.
Double Specialisation (optional): For melee weapons that are not polearms or two-handed swords, a third weapon proficiency may be used to specialise further; this increases combat bonuses to +3 to hit and +3 dam- age with the weapon.

Is that in affect? I need to find me the OSRIC, it's not in the first ed. PHB.

I've got a feeling there is a rule somewhere that it doesn't apply to multi-class characters though - I couldn't tell you where I read that though!

How do I know how many weapon proficiencies I get? Does the OSRIC have non-weapon proficiencies?

Re: OOC: Table Talk 4

Okay, so I'm using the weapon of my goddess, the bastard sword, hand and half. Used one handed or two handed.

Do I need to specialize in one, the other or both?

Can I use all three specializations on the bastard sword, and get the value of triple when using it one handed, but only double with two handed due to the restriction listed above?

Good plan...

I would like to reiterate my request for any spare cash anyone might have to stock me up. I'm guessing there won't be much, if any, given the classes chosen, but even an AC difference on one could make a difference!

Re: OOC: Table Talk 4

120 total -
75 g Splint mail
15 g large Shield
25 g Bastard sword
plus 5 gold

That's where I sit now. Not too shabby, be nice to have some clothing, maybe a holy symbol and some food.

Re: OOC: Table Talk 4

Fair dinkum, like I said, the party breakdown doesn't speak much for spare money, that usually comes from the mages, when the mage has to buy armor and weapons too, things are going to be tighter than usual!

Thanks. In 1st Edition, the bow specialization gives extra bonuses to hit AND double damage at point blank range. Seems a bit much to me.

Armor and longbow set me back quite a bit. I won't have more than a few coins left over, especially if I splurge for a pouch to put them in, but don't worry. You won't starve. Plus, you and I are almost the same size. We can share clothes!

Re: OOC: Table Talk 4

It does cost two slots to get specialized once in bow, maybe that's considered the trade off.

Do the rules say you can only specialize in one weapon? That would make sense...

Of course it says the GM has to okay it. Did the previous groups fighters specialize?
