Chapter 2 - To Carnelian

Time has ticked by, your questions remain unanswered. Tomorrow is Monday 29th April (at least in Sacramento), the day the invites say you are to be collected (depending on time differences).
What are you going to do, where are you going to be, and what preparations have you made(if any).
You all know when, it says so on the invite.. but what exactly is the how..
And specifically
1) Where are you at the time it says on the invite
2) do you obey the request on the last line of the invite?

Chapter 2 - To Carnelian

After packing her duffel bag, Rhiannon went down to the dormitory lobby on the first floor wearing faded jeans, pink tennis shoes and a mint-green knit pullover. The invitation said that the Expo was going to be a few days, so she packed for the trip, including at least one part outfit. The invitation felt formal, and she anticipated at least one event where she would want to wear a dress and heels. Other than that, she brought everything she required to be comfortable and prepared. Maybe a painting kit was too much but the Expo could turn out to be a huge snooze fest. Of course this little event couldn't come at a worse time. Finals were this week and the Expo covered the week. She was able to move up her final exams to last week, but a couple of her instructors weren't initially very accommodating. In the end she managed to persuade them, but it wasn't without a lot of angst. The expo better be worth it.

It was only 2:15 when she dropped into one of the cushy chairs, but she wanted to be there in plenty of time. She just knew Cordelia Chan was going to be punctual, but maybe she would even be early. Rhiannon pulled the invitation out of her purse and read it again. It looked so typical of a formal invitation, minus a few facts: she didn't know Cordelia Chan, there was no reason for her to get such an invitation, she would be a guest in Cordelia's private residence, the invitation itself was cold and vibrating with magic, and a mysterious bitch with a sword came to give her a huge headache just to remind her that she was invited. Rhiannon felt like an idiot for even going, but she was too curious not to. Not to mention a certain past headache suggested that she might not really have much choice in the matter.

Rhiannon checked the time. Ten minutes. She wondered what kind of car Cordelia Chan would be arriving in.

Chapter 2 - To Carnelian

Approaching the day of the supposed transport to the 'Expo', Harris began making a few preparations for the time to come. He spent a modest bit of time going over and refreshing his selection of available spells to make sure he was in good shape in that regard. 'Just in case'. After that, he packed a small pack of clothing suitable for a couple days. A few more formal pieces and a couple casual oriented items.

He dressed the day of in rather casual attire; jeans, t-shirt and comfortable hiking boots. He didn't know how much walking would be involved today, but he wanted to be prepared just in case. Airports could be tiresome and it seemed likely they'd be going by plane. To wherever the Expo was planned. Having all his personal belongings in hand, he made sure to collect the invite itself to have on hand and moved down to the front lounge in his apartment building. He could wait there for someone to come by to collect him. And if it turned out to be a hoax, well, he could always come back up to his apartment and unpack again.

Time to see just what was going on and who his mystery host was.

Chapter 2 - To Carnelian

Kenneth Elgrim had everything packed.

He had loaded everything he was bringing on the trip into his forty liter backpack, with the exception of the dress clothes, which were protected in a black canvas suit bag his father had given him for the occasion.

He sat in his bed, sitting up with his back against the headboard, one leg bent as he took a few minutes to himself to wrap his head around the invitation.

He had read it dozens of times, and it still did not make any sense. Why him?

Eventually, it was time.

He stood and put on his jacket, then slipped into the pack straps, the modest weight settled in his hips and shoulders in a familiar way.

Then he bent over and retrieved his rifle, the Mauler, and casually tucked his head into the sling.

There was hugging and goodbyes, and then he was off on his own, headed to the center of town where he could keep an eye on the road in, as well as the heliport, the invitation itself tucked into an interior jacket pocket for safe keeping.

Chapter 2 - To Carnelian

Winter was, to say the least, suspicious of this invitation - but she didn't think it was really an "invitation." So she figured it was best to be prepared.

She cut study hall again on the evening of the big night to get some extra sleep, knowing that she'd be abducted in the dead of night. At midnight, she silently dressed and slipped her invite into her jacket pocket, then headed over to the kwoon. It was locked, of course, but she had a key, and a legitimate reason to be there at an ungodly hour - she "couldn't sleep" and wanted to practice a bit.

More importantly, it was where she kept her sword. Nearly a meter of modern steel, sharp as a razor.

She stretched and worked out a bit, doing some quiet exercises and bag practice, but switched to sword forms as the time approached. At 2:15 AM, she began to cool down, but kept her eye on the clock and her hand on the blade. Maybe she'd get some answers from this Cordelia once she arrived.

Chapter 2 - To Carnelian

In reply to GameMaster (msg # 1):

Cassandra was highly suspicious of the Invitation, however, she had spent the last few days confirming the validation of the ID documents she was given. Given they all checked out, she was willing to give the invitation to a non-existent event a chance, especially if she could find out how they got the stuff into her bunker. That and it also gave her an excuse to go shopping, given she had 0 formal pieces in her wardrobe.

Today was the 28, tomorrow was the 29th the day she was supposed to be picked up and Cassandra was all packed, her new formal clothes packed away with a few other outfits in a large travel bag the one she often used when moving between timeshares. She'd decided to pack a few other things some art supplies, her tarot card deck, and the book she was learning from. Her backpack held everything else all the stuff she might need easy access to.

Tomorrow she would wait in her bunker until the designated time, and if she sat on her art table she would be able to see the whole room.

.
.
.

The day she was to be picked up went by reasonably quickly, having spent most the day relaxing in Fuengirola before teleporting back to her bunker for around 8:00 pm (UK time), with an hour to kill, Cassandra doubled checked her bags and flicked through her Quantumn Cards making sure she had them all. "Alright, everything looks good" Throwing on her leather jacket and her combat boots she checked that her two knives were hidden.

8:45 pm.. 15 miniutes to go. Sitting on her art table Cassandra pulled out the invitation and read it through one more time. The post script line was the most mysterious part of the invitation. 8:50 pm 10 more minitutes.

Chapter 2 - To Carnelian

GM Note:
The next bit I need to handle sequentially in your collection order. For reference, using Sacremento Time, the order is
  • 11:00 - Harris
  • 11:10 - Kenneth
  • 11:20 - Winter
  • 11:30 - Rhiannon
  • 11:40 - Machk
  • 11:50 - Nathaniel
  • 12:00 - Cassandra
  • 12:10 - Edward

Exactly what occurs is different for specific characters which divide into 2 groups, which makes the events for the 2 groups slightly different
Group A : Harris, Kenneth, Winter, Machk, Edward
Group B : Rhiannon, Nathaniel, Cassandra

I only need responses from Group A in order at this point..

Group A:
At the appointed hour and minute you notice a shimmer in the air about 10 feet from you. The shimmer turns first into a rainbow, then a rainbow in a circle, to a circular triple rainbow about 3ft in diameter. It then opens to frame a rectangle about 7ft x 3ft. The interior of the rectangle then clears revealing a woman of oriental descent, wearing knee high leather boots, jeans, a black Tee-shirt with the Disjunction motif in gold, and a well worn leather jacket. At her left side hangs a scabbard Katana.

From the point the air starts to shimmer, till you see the image takes 3 seconds!

If you read the Time magazine article that the woman looks like the Cordelia Chan in the photograph on the cover.

What are your reactions at this point?

Group B:
At the appointed hour and minute you notice a shimmer in the air about 10 feet from you. The shimmer then turns first into a rainbow, and at this point you feel a sharp stabbing pain in your head which rapidly intensifies, to a completely delibitating degree.
You will all have encountered this once before, to some degree or another, when you encountered the "Girl".
As the rainbow expands into a doorway, it feels ike your head is going to explode, and you collapse to you knees, holding your head in your hands. As Cordelia steps through it gets worse, if you attempt to look at her its like looking directly into a trillion candla spotlight on a pitch dark night..
Cordelia:
You then feel a hand on your arm, and a voice in your head says "Forgive me, I hadn't considered that you'd be so susceptible. I've installed a temporary block, which whilst alleviating your immediate symptoms, will mean you won't be able to use your Trump abilities for a while, not that they'd particularly do you any good.."
As she helps you to your feet, the pain will slowly start to recede, and she continues "You'll need to learn how to shield against latent and local sources, but that's for another day, if you're feeling better and are ready then we can go."
She will let go of you at this point.

Chapter 2 - To Carnelian

On the morning of the 29th Edward awoke early, giving himself plenty of time to get ready for the days potential activities.
He has a bag packed, change of clothes, laptop, chargers, etc...
His pistol in his inside jacket pocket, next to the invitation.
He has extra cash in his wallet, just in case.

As the time arrives, he is sitting on his Penthouse balcony having just completed a light lunch. He left instructions for any visitors to be escorted up, while also leaving instructions in the event he is gone for a few weeks.
