Chapter 2 - To Carnelian
After packing her duffel bag, Rhiannon went down to the dormitory lobby on the first floor wearing faded jeans, pink tennis shoes and a mint-green knit pullover. The invitation said that the Expo was going to be a few days, so she packed for the trip, including at least one part outfit. The invitation felt formal, and she anticipated at least one event where she would want to wear a dress and heels. Other than that, she brought everything she required to be comfortable and prepared. Maybe a painting kit was too much but the Expo could turn out to be a huge snooze fest. Of course this little event couldn't come at a worse time. Finals were this week and the Expo covered the week. She was able to move up her final exams to last week, but a couple of her instructors weren't initially very accommodating. In the end she managed to persuade them, but it wasn't without a lot of angst. The expo better be worth it.
It was only 2:15 when she dropped into one of the cushy chairs, but she wanted to be there in plenty of time. She just knew Cordelia Chan was going to be punctual, but maybe she would even be early. Rhiannon pulled the invitation out of her purse and read it again. It looked so typical of a formal invitation, minus a few facts: she didn't know Cordelia Chan, there was no reason for her to get such an invitation, she would be a guest in Cordelia's private residence, the invitation itself was cold and vibrating with magic, and a mysterious bitch with a sword came to give her a huge headache just to remind her that she was invited. Rhiannon felt like an idiot for even going, but she was too curious not to. Not to mention a certain past headache suggested that she might not really have much choice in the matter.
Rhiannon checked the time. Ten minutes. She wondered what kind of car Cordelia Chan would be arriving in.
