Mansion and Grounds

<Most of the descriptions relate to plans in my head which I refine over time.. some elements are more stable than others.>

Library(Mansion First Floor)
The library is large and spacious, being approximately 90ft in length and 30ft wide. Carved, hardwood bookshelves cover 3 walls, with additional stacks sub-dividing the room. Two areas of sofas, with chairs and subsidiary "coffee" tables, effectively make two informal meeting areas, one at each end of the room, although the end closest to the foyer also has a well stocked drinks cabinet.

Of the bookshelves only about 40%, are actually stocked with books, and most of those are only between 30% and 65% full.

The books are on a mixture of subjects, and are a mix of both fiction and non-fiction. About 20% are in English, 20% in what may be Chinese, 10% in Japanese, 2% in Arabic, 20% in another language that none of you can read, and the remainder in other assorted languages. About 70% of the books look new or relatively new, some of the others look very old. The subject which has the most books is Art including history, and biographies and catalogues of famous artists. It is this section that has the most books in that none of you can read, including the oldest books.

Dining Room (Mansion First Floor)
The Dining room is about 2/3 the size of the Library and dominated by the 30ft long and 10ft wide walnut dining table, and its 20 oak, walnut, and velvet upholstered Queen Anne Style Chairs.
2 Corner Welsh Dressers dominate the two corners of the outside wall with 3 Victorian sideboards, one at each end of the room and one between the two floor to ceiling windows in the outside wall.
Typically when food is being served, the two end sideboards are augmented by 2 to 4 hostess trolleys.

Mansion and Grounds

Mansion Roof Level RHS (Public)
The roof level is divided approximately in the ratio 60:40, the LH and larger side dominated by a 100ft long by 30ft wide swimming pool, 4ft deep for half its length sloping down over the next 10ft to 9ft deep for the remainder. The deeper end is closest to the entrance.
Dividing the pool from the 15ft diameter hot tub and sun area, is a continuation of the 12ft wide raised bed that is planted with trees, shrubs, and other plants, that surrounds the roof on all sides. A pitched glass roof covers both the pool and half of the area where the hot tub is.
Adjacent to the hot tub are 3 deck tables, a dozen wooden chairs, and half a dozen loungers.

Mansion and Grounds

House and Grounds - General(Public)

The Front of the house faces south, and is built atop a limestone pavement escarpment (like that of Malham Cove https://upload.wikimedia.org/w...7/7b/Malham_Cove.jpg.... as featured in Harry Potter - The Deathly Hallows), which rises about 1000ft above the river valley below. The edge of the escarpment is about 100m(250ft) from the perimeter wall at the front. The road way turns left out of the gate, although there does appear to be a path at the edge of the escarpment on the RHS of the gate (if you're facing south). The regional geography is very much akin to the central southern hills of China along the Lijang, especially around Xiangshan.

Exiting the House via the main foyer leads you under the front portico, a gravel driveway leads away left and right. The right hand branch turns after about 20 yards and heads towards the main gate, some 300 yards away across the lawn which is ringed by a variety of trees. Immediately across the gravel drive is a large ornamental pond. A smaller branch of the driveway continues along the front of the house to the right.
The left hand branch of the driveway, continues along the remainder of the front of the house, until it meets a metalled road, about 20m(65ft) beyond the end of the Ballroom. The metalled road, perpendicular to the house heads towards the perimeter wall before turning right and sweeping towards the main gate, about 20m(65ft) before one of the strange columnar towers that ring the perimeter 6m(20ft) in from the wall.
The columnar towers are all about 6m(20ft) in diameter and 6m(20ft) to the base of the domed roof, and appear to have no means of access. They are spaced approximately every 500m(1600ft), although they are closer together along the left-hand side perimeter wall at the front of the house. The perimeter wall is 3m high and appears to be made from decorative brick, although it is actually about 1m thick and buttressed to 1.6m every 10m(32ft). The buttresses are 0.6m(2ft) wide.
The metalled road itself continues down the side of the ballroom before turning left and descending into the basement garage. A smaller gravelled roadway continues towards the stables, walled gardens, and greenhouses at the back right (if your facing the house, left if you're facing the gateway) of the house.

The total perimeter of the grounds is about 6 miles(9.6km). The NE quadrant of the grounds behind the house is given over to Green Houses, Arboreal Houses, Walled Gardens, Allotment plots, orchards, and small agricultural fields, with a collection of wooden "sheds" acting as storage, potting sheds, and utility buildings.
There is also another gateway in the NE corner, adjacent to which are 14 single story Japanese style timber small court yard buildings arranged around 3 sides and a much larger 2 story Japanese style courtyard building. Each of the smaller dwellings has it own substantial garden, most of which are also given over to growing herbs and vegetables.

There are 12 greenhouses(completed Mai->Ota 32), aligned W->E each 180m long and 30m wide spaced 6m apart. To the North of the Greenhouses are the 12 Kitchen Gardens, each garden 240mx180m. About 60 additional vegetable plots each 30mx10 exist to the North and East of the Kitchen Gardens. There are 18m gaps between the plots through which are planted a mixture of fruit and nut trees – tree spacing is 6m N->S and 12m W->E with the trees being 3m from the plot edges. A hard path runs down the centre of the tree avenue. The first 100m of the corridor between the Kitchen Gardens on the western side is given over to a mixture of sheds and compost bins.

There are also six arboreal houses (completed Zavax 33) for tender shrubs and evergreens each 240m long and 27m wide with double half cylinder roof, each half cylinder apex being 15m, with the central channel being 10m in height and 3m wide. Three of the houses are netted to provide 60% shade and are temperature and humidity controlled.
One is used specifically for growing Cinnamon (Cinnamomum Cassia 13m, 10-32C,4-38, 12 off planted 33x2,34,35x2,36,37x2,38,39x2,40; Cinnamomum Burmannii  15m, 20-28, 11-34, 4 off planted 34,36,38,40; Coppice at +10years,harverst +7 after coppice/harvest)
One is used for growing Bourbon Vanilla on Bamboo, whilst a third is used for growing Coffea arabica. The trees here are all fresh cultivars from specimens harvested from wild trees in Yemen. Shrubs are grown to 3m tall on a 8 year rotation. Each bed in the house (11m wide) supports 4 rows of 78 plants. All current propagation is via cuttings taken in year 7.
One provides the propagation house for growing and propagating seeds and plants for the other arboreal house crops.

The stables, a timber long barn, are about half the size of one of the green houses, about 90m long and 15m wide, and has stall boxes of varying size for about 30 horses, a substantial tack room, and an indoor exercise arena. Currently there are 4 horses in residence, 2 stallions Lexicon (Black Arabian,16.2 hands, Cordelia's) and Salazar(Chestnut Arabian, 16 hands, Charlotte's), and 2 mares, Autumn Gold(Light Chestnut Anglo-Arabian, 15.4 hands) and Raindrop (Grey Anglo-Arabian, 15.5 hands).

To the NW of the rear of the house is a substantial area given over to Japanese gardens, including a substantial area of ponds, running water, and waterfalls, some ornamental, some natural. There are also 3 "gravel" gardens.

Mansion and Grounds

Garage(Mansion Basement Level 1)
The floor of the garage is 25ft below that of the Ground Floor, although it has a ceiling height of 19ft.
Entry is either via the main lifts in the foyer, via the service elevators behind foyer, or via the stairs from the kitchens.
The section below the kitchens provides the main storage for the kitchens.
Exiting into the garage there are a number of parked vehicles in the various bays.
Against the LH wall are 3 motorcycles,
  • a Honda CBR1000 RR Fire Blade
  • a Custom Yamaha FZ1 (number plate N7FAA-52318 )
  • a Triumph Black Shadow with a custom paint job of a Phoenix on fire

Some people may recognise the Yamaha...

In the  set of car bays in various slots are
  • a Black Range rover ( number plate CAILONG 1)
  • an Audi A7 3.0 TFSI Quattro,
  • a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Estate
  • an Audi A1 1.4 TFSI ( number plate Lynn Nye )
  • a Nissan Pro-Frontier 4x4

On the far side of the garage is a screen curtain, ceiling to floor, which runs from the RH wall (as you look at it, emerging from the elevators), for 20m. You can't see what's behind it.

Turning left into the main section, the exit ramp is clearly visible some 200ft away. Parked on the LHS will be one or more vehicles depending on what is happening in the garage. There will generally always be 2 electric cars (Ford Focus equivalent) and one or more Ford Connect electric vans sign written with the Mizzurian name and logo.

Parked against the RH wall in the far bay , and the 3rd bay, are 2 Renault Magnum 6x4 Mid-Lift Articulated trucks with Standard Rigid Box Trailers.
Along the LH wall are 3 workshops and then  3 sets of garage lifting ramps, with offices behind them. All are in use and there are various numbers of people working depending on what their workloads are.
The first workshops is a wood working shop.
The 2nd workshop is a metal working shop geared to forming and forging.
The 3rd workshop is a split shop. It has a large oven suitable for bonding paint, whilst on the other side are a dual function CNC/Manual Mill and dual function CNC/Manual Lathe.
The 4th workshop, is geared to vehicle repair, the 5th is a 2 story - mezzanine level- office space, whilst in the corner against the ramp wall is a metal and parts store - again this has a mezzanine level

Mansion and Grounds

Housekeeping
Like a house of old, or Castle Carnelian, or Castle Amber, or the Royal Palace in Remba, or the Royal Palace or the Ways of the Courts, the house is supported by 'Staff'.
The staff run the kitchens, provide meals, maintain the grounds and buildings, and service and clean the Guest Rooms.
The Maids typically appear around 9:30am, but what time they get to an individual room depends on a number of factors, one of which is you metaphorically hanging a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on your door by notifying Zou Yan of the fact.
The Maids will generally make the bed, clean and tidy the bathroom and toilet, and generally clean up around the suite.
Laundry left in the Laundry basket in the walk-in-closet will be taken away and laundered, usually within 24 hours, and this includes dry-cleaning.
Towels in the Bathroom are changed twice a week (remembering a week in Carnelian is 6 days), and the bed sheets and duvet cover are changed on a weekly basis, unless you happen to make them completely dirty in the mean time..

Note: If you hang a do-not-distrub in the morning your room will be cleaned when you're at dinner in the evening....
