Day 16 20 Juvax 45 : Down Time

Cathal O'Donoghue:
Cathal thinks a moment. "Like a shield."

"If it is a shield would it be possible to place it behind you?  Maybe once you decided where it goes you have to drop it to set ti to a new direction."

"Something else we need to ask about then."

"Even if it's hard to move, a shield that stops bullets is really cool. We should also ask if it's like a wall stopping both directions or if it lets you shoot through it."

"Right so is there anything else? It sounds like we already have a lot to talk about"

Day 16 20 Juvax 45 : Down Time

There is a general consensus that nobody else has anything to add in relation to the Pattern and it's uses.
Winter Li Mei:
"Dinner is usually a good time to ask, and the Expo will have finished by then so it's likely that at least Cordelia will be present."

"I would have thought that if that was meant to be a lesson, the teacher would led this review at some point. I assume, since she hasn't done so, it's on us to ask when we have the opportunity. Dinner does seem the time for such conversations, if she's present and hasn't sauntered off into shadow to be free of us."

"Well, it sounds like we have it all worked out then. Unless anyone wants to have some other discussion, I'm going back to my Trump practice until lunch. ... Or maybe until dinner. Enjoy your days, cousins."

Rhiannon left to collect her trumps and go outside into the gardens to practice

A note for Cathal.. you will notice that the area around/in front of the resettlement warehouse is considerably busier than the last time you went into town. You would estimate there are between 3 and 5 times as many people there as last time.

Day 16 20 Juvax 45 : Down Time

Cathal O'Donoghue:
Cathal is curious and ask one of the official about the reason.

Initially they will look at you skeptically, as if you can't be serious, or as if you're pulling their leg, which means you'll need to explain that you haven't been here long (as in about 15 days), and that you don't actually know what's going on.
At that point they'll be more forthcoming, so the latest batch of immigrants came in 10 days ago on the ships Wyatt and Angel bought in. It takes a couple of weeks or so to get everyone into the right temporary accommodation, but a couple of months for them to acclimatize and begin to be assimilated. Often this requires language courses and custom/culture courses, but there's often schooling to sort out for any children, and of course jobs/occupations for the parent(s) or individuals. Some of this my be 'long term', including future housing solutions, which is one of the biggest problems currently, they can't build houses fast enough, which puts pressure on the limited stock of apartments they have.

One other thing of note, you don't have the language barrier you had the first time you came into town, as at that point you hadn't walked the Pattern.

Actually there is another thing to note, which sort of got missed in the original 'Day 2 Town excursion' thread because I think the player who was playing Cathal at the time dropped out before we got to it so I didn't bother writing it into the thread.

The Fulgent, being a Mizzurian car, has the relevant id/encoding built into the electronics in the car to open the gates into the Mizzurian office car park. From within the car park you can exit into town without any problems, which is what happened the first time. The issue comes when you want to get back into the car park, you need a Mizzurian Staff ID/Visitors ID to get through the gate.
This meant that Cathal had to go around to Main Reception to find out how to get back in to get the car (Main Reception is closer than the security office, being directly across from the 'retail block'). Once in Reception, and once they'd verified who he was, the receptionist went into the office behind reception and returned with his Mizzurian Staff ID badge. His badge has a slightly different background Pattern on it than either the receptionists badge or any other badge worn by a staff member. His lanyard is also purple with gold lettering, as opposed to red with white lettering - the lettering like on all the other staff lanyards just says "STAFF".

Day 16 20 Juvax 45 : Down Time

After going to her room, Rhiannon collected her durable trumps and headed out. There were just too many Trump sources in the building to practice in her room, so she had to head out to the garden or further. She didn't nee much else, so she breezed out with the cards in her purse.

As she was approaching the stairs, Rhiannon about ran into Cathal. He looked like he was on a mission

"Hey. Where are you headed off too? I was just going to the garden. Wanna come?"

Rhiannon was about to shrug. He was busy and she was used to practicing and studying on her own. But then she realized Cathal might have had the better plan. Just to get out and be anonymous and see something different.

"On second thought. Do you mind if I join you then? I like the idea of getting out from under the shadow of this place. No pun intended."

From the nominal start of the 'grid' 2Km outside of the center of town, the speed limit is 35mph/56kmh. Outside of that there currently isn't one, other than what is sensible for the road (you're not going to be able to do more than 50mph on the unmade road through the canyon for instance and only then in a 4x4).

Note also that the car can't be driven over the speed limit inside the town limits.

Rhiannon followed Cathal enthusiastically all the way down to the car. As they went, she barely took her eyes off the the side of the road and the sights of the area as they went by.

"No. Actually. I have not. I lived in Dublin my entire life until I went to University at Harvard in the US. Cambridge, Massachusetts is a lot like Dublin in that it's very strict about driving. I would like to see Germany, and France too. And now that I know about Shadow, there are going to be many more places I'll want to visit."

"Me neither. From a environmental side it make absolute no sense to build cars that can run this fast while nearly everywhere there are some tense a speed-limits. Not that I'm suggesting to  abandon the speed-limit. People should to building cars that have engines do not go so fast would be better for the resources. Sorry bad habit, my live was too deeply intervened with environment protection."

"I just had planed some window shopping, maybe a coffee shop. Anywhere you like to stop by."

Rhiannon nodded along. Obviously the environment was important to her cousin, and he had thought about that some before this conversation. She herself wasn't particularly animated by the topic, but neither had she thought too deeply about it. What did make some sense was the idea of tailoring cars for city use, but that seemed like another subject she didn't know enough about to comment.

"You're driving" She decided to stay focused on the excursion "I have no idea what's here, so coffee and window shopping is perfect. Aside from getting out of the house, I'm looking forward to doing some people watching. It will be interesting to see how modern this town is."

Day 16 20 Juvax 45 : Down Time

"I already was here some days before for a short trip, nothing special. There is a center for resettlement I passed the last time and I will check again today."

"My father still lives, I mean the man who married my mother and raised me, for me this man is my father in all aspects aside the obvious biological. I never met my biological father Logan. So my father still live and I have to discuss with him who to go on  if he want to resettle here so I can see him more often. It is also a question of different time streams. So of course I hope if he decides to come here that he does no have to go through all of the normal resettlement procedure and I can arrange as member of the Royalty something quicker."
