Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

"I so want that. Can I keep it? Please please please?" The halfling glances at the paladin. Ironically, Echo sits down and watches it with curiousity.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

Muirryl eyed the griffon.  It was a regal creature, and sometimes to be found in the heraldry of noble houses.  But it was held in high regard because it was also fearsome and ready to fight in a moment's notice.

Muirryl hung back, watching warily.  "If it follows us, you can offer it meat.  But it might just try to eat you, so don't get too friendly.  Where there is one, there are likely more."  He waved the others to move on, so he could fall back and watch just in case it grew aggressive.

If Nym could command one of these creatures, he likely had a number at his beck and call.  Why would he need golems, then?  Or undead?  This was power in its own right.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

"But but but....I want it now." Echo scuffs her feet and grumbles. She was ahead and now is behind "Oh baby. Nice view.  Twirl it. Come on." She winks at the paladin before trying to get in front again "Got dibs on that one." Shen then attempts to 'dissapear' somewhere. Like behind a boulder. Sure. Sounds good.

Love them rolls. Bravo! lol

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

Making your way down you keep a close eye on the griffon making sure that it doesn't come down from it's perch. All the sudden another shadow flies over head and you see the griffon is still near it's location. A second medium sized griffon lands this time closer to your position, it calls to the other in a heckling fashion but seems to do a similar thing to the first which watches you with eyes.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

"What the rest of us want is to do the job we came here to do, and live to tell the tale. You want to abandon our task to go play with the birdies? Birdies who'll eat you? Ok, then." Lyra had spent less than a day with the halfling, and she was already hoping she'd step too close to one of the gryphons.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

"Back off. Now." The halfling stares at the druid, eyes narrowed "Yah want a piece of me? Go for it. I don't know you an' don't expect me tah walk up to you and give you a hug an' sing a song. What the rest of you want is to go after Nym an' do whatever the Count wants. Be his lackeys. You want that? Be my guest. Yah want tah be friends? Then start treatin' me like I'm not cannon fodder." Echo smiles soon afterwards "Yah don't know them so don't act yah do. We're all killers, backstabbers an' bullies. Well some of us are. Might be. Okay maybe not." She looks around and sees the birdies again "Pretty. Live to tell the tale of being someones lackeys. Right. Sure." She shifts into Lyra's form minus the gear "Rawwrrr!" She smiles again and hops around before changing back to the halfling form "Of course everyone will take yer side. I expect it. Come on now, everyone back the creepy one we just met. Be all buddy with her just tah have her stab yah. I expect it. Yup yup. Yer a freak like all of use. Freaky freak. We are the Nut Jobs." She winks and looks at Lyra "Yah want to do this, then do it. Don't got all day. Chop chop. Wait. Nothing? Alright. Down the yellowbrick rode." She hops again and looks up at the gryphons and shrugs as she almost slams into Jay "Hey you! Yeah you!" A wink to Jayson and she looks around "Mall still here?." She yawns and stretches and goes quiet staring up at the gryphons as if she sees something else. Her eyes narrow.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

"I've got no reason to stab you in the back, skin-shifter. You're quite possibly the most annoying, self-focused person I've ever laid eyes on, so I might enjoy your company about as much as cannon fodder, but at least I showed some concern - which you've ignored. This one here," Lyra pointed toward Jaysen, "who you like to give such shit to, is the one who's stood up for you the most, and he says you're worth all the..." Lyra wasn't quite sure of the word for it, "you. From the short stint I've known you, the person who treats you like fodder has mostly been you."

"Never said I wasn't a freak, though."

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

"Yet you do. You do not know me and yet you act like I do nothing. You do not know what I have been through and I don't want to tell you anyways. I don't care what you do-you harm any of us and I will kill you. You have not shown anyone concern. I protect them. I helped them. And yoou have done nothing but complain because not everyone does what you bloody want. So why don't yah stand there and don't say a damn word? Or be like Jack and vanish. Poof. You stabbed me in the back right now for all your snivelling and complaining because I don't share your views. You could work for Nym for all I know and be lying. Self focused? You get dragged around by the Count unable to live and see how that works for you. And thank you. I am glad I can be the person you focus all your damn attention on. Let's everyone beat down on Echo. Why not? You are the most self absorbed egotisciall self centered brat that expects everyone to do what you want and as soon as someone go against it you whine and complain." The halfling pouts "Need a hug?" She shrugs and smiles "Poor baby. Want some milk and cookies?" She shrugs. And she doesn't sound spiteful. Serious sure. "I'm bored. Can't we all just get along? No? Anyone? Right. Everyone hates Echo. Fine. Don't want my help, so be it." She climbs up onto a boulder and sits down. Pulling out her lute, she starts to play. And Echo stands up, slinging the lute to her back and bows before lookimg up at the birds "All of this because I want to ride you. Go figure." Pondering something, she shrugs and sits down "Now I'm expecting to get ripped into by this person I barely know and I will take it like a grain of salt as it means nothing. So we can go back and forth and I don't want to bother with it. So how bout we just sing a song and smile and act like nothing is wrong but have a deep build up of frustraction and anger brewing inside waiting to...." She jumps up "Explode. Boom." She dances a bit "We need to move on and not complain. No one wants tah be here but that doesn't mean we can't have fun. No? Nevermind. Lets all go find Nym and do whatever the Count wants, bow to him. Let's do it. I'll go quiet now and expect someone to stab me in the back. Wham! Boom! Splat!" She bows and shrugs again.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

Lyra wasn't sure why she'd even bothered. She had thought she would never meet someone worse than Rez, but this was what she got for making assumptions.

After the changeling's insane rant was over, Lyra shook her head as she worked on getting her mind focused back on the necromancer as she continued on toward the town.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

The large human paid no heed to Gryphons who were just resting for all he knew, little changelings who thought they were the center of the universe, or those who rightly or not lost patience. Jaysen kept his mouth shut and kept moving. At this point he was likely a hundred feet or more ahead, with no sign of slowing.

Slding down the boulder, the halfling stretches and starts walking. She's pretty quiet as the mouse pops out and climbs onto her shoulder. Echo hops occasionally. Trying to catch up, Echo looks over at Jayson "....Sorry." She lowers her head and then gets some distance from him and pulls out her waterskin and takes a sip.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

The griffons all the sudden take flight in the sky and are joined by yet another medium sized griffon. Their calls give way to the sky as they darken the sun with their shadows. One by one they start swooping lower and lower, closer to the group. All the sudden the group hears some faint cries from above that sound like the Griffins but much smaller in calls. The Calls seem to hasten their flight and altogether they swoop down from their location and begin the attack.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

Lyra was only mildly surprised that the large birds had decided to attack. She had hoped that they would not, but there was nothing for it now. Lyra's head darted from one side to another as she looked for places to take cover. One would have been bad enough, but three was almost certain death if she was forced to face them out in the open.

One of the Griffon's swoops down and lands on Muirryl. It's claws scratch his armor but do no damage. The creatures beak however peaks at him with savage strength. Another Griffon is ready to land and has it's eyes on Jaysen.

**If you want to break your shield you can break your shield to "soak" the attack. You also get an attack of opportunity against the Griffon. You'll drop your AC but you effectively soak the wound.

Lyra cupped her hands and spoke in a soft tone, "Awake and alight, Darling. We're being attacked." A dancing flame appeared in her cupped hands as she spoke, then swirled as she mentioned an attack. Seeing that the first had gone after Muirryl, Lyra lashed her intent toward that griffon and the flame leaped toward the monstrous bird.

Muirryl grimaced as blood began to run.  "We weren't on the menu, buzzard!"

Taking the heavy hammer, he began the awkward task of trying to swing at it while it was perched on him.

As the hammer connected with the creature, a loud peal of thunder crackled, and a flash of radiant light flared from the impact.

The creature reels from Muirryl's hit leaving a bunch of feathers and blood as the strike lands true. Meanwhile Lyra is able to sent flames to the creature leaving it screaming. Not before the second one swoops down landing on Jaysen it's claw swing past his defenses before it's beak lands into Jaysen's flesh(6) tearing away a chunk leaving a nice cut.

Roll before round 2 and then we can start round 2.

As the others pitch in their attacks against the Griffin Malleus hits it with a sending hitting it's side like a thud and Echo is able to heal Muirryl and sling a stone at the creature dealing it more damage. Jaysen is able to fire a few shots and one shot lands true against the first beast.

The other Griffon keeps flying high above deciding not to enter the battle just yet.
