Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

As you leave the small cabin and wave back to Bran you can't help but feel thankful to the little man. In this world of madness he is one of the few who gave you housing in food with no conditions. All things considered you feel lucky to have found him and had a decent meal and some sleep. When you head out the next morning you make your way down the mountain side darting from trail to trail trying to stay on stable ground. You reach about half way down the mountain when morning is turning to midday when you notice that off in the distance you can see the town that is most likely your destination.

Your still about a half of day trek out from reaching the city but between you and the city lies nothing but mostly flat plains like terrain with some higher bushes and farmland in the way.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

Jaysen marched along quietly, as he had promised. He had not said a word in roughly 12 hours, perhaps 20 if you counted his sleep. His silence isn't new, he normally said little so most probably won't even notice.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

Moving from bush to bush, the halfling stops at times. She looks like she is hunting her prey-like everyone. Or herding them badly. Maybe she is just having fun. Who knows "I laugh in the face of danger!" Well that's randomb. Even for Echo.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

With the dirt halfling patrolling, Malleus keeps his eyes on the town they are approaching.. After a time he mutters to the rest of them, "We know little of the Nym beyond what the Count has spoken of. Perhaps it is best if we find out a little of how he is perceived in the town, before confronting him? I would prefer to avoid knowingly riling up a mob, for instance"

"So, we need to find out where he is, which one is him, and not let anyone know why we're looking for him in the process?" Lyra nodded to herself as she thought of the impact that each of those points had on the objective at hand. "I've helped form a mob or two. I'm sure I can find a way to disperse one, if it should happen."

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

As you continue down the mountain Echo notices that she hears something coming up from above your head and a further away distance from where you are located. A few seconds pass there is some rubble falling above head. You look down and the trail still has a decent ways to go before it will reach the bottom of the mountain.

Muirryl nodded to the others.  "And when we find him, we need to offer him the chance to fall in line with the Count's offer once more, and if not, we put an end to him."

Muirryl kept up the ground-eating pace that he'd fallen into over the past few days.  This was much farther than he had previously walked on any given day, and ever in his life.

He was utterly unaware of Echo's discoveries.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

The bard pops up and puts a hand for the others to stop. She points above and shrugs, and remains still. Her eyes narrow on the location, listening for a moment. First she's a healer. Now she's a scout. And does neither of them well. Oh what fun. Guess they lost Turg. And hopefully Jack. She turns back to the druid for a moment. Lovely. Let's wait till she turns on the group. Everyone does sooner or later.....

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

There is a dark shadow that flies over head that catches everyone attention. The screech is made by the large creature that lands on a cliff near by overhead and gives a large call. You realize the creature is a Griffon. It watches you with steady eyes but does not move from the cliff itself. It's large wings spread out and block parts of the sun.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

Muirryl eyed the griffon.  It was a regal creature, and sometimes to be found in the heraldry of noble houses.  But it was held in high regard because it was also fearsome and ready to fight in a moment's notice.

Muirryl hung back, watching warily.  "If it follows us, you can offer it meat.  But it might just try to eat you, so don't get too friendly.  Where there is one, there are likely more."  He waved the others to move on, so he could fall back and watch just in case it grew aggressive.

If Nym could command one of these creatures, he likely had a number at his beck and call.  Why would he need golems, then?  Or undead?  This was power in its own right.

Making your way down you keep a close eye on the griffon making sure that it doesn't come down from it's perch. All the sudden another shadow flies over head and you see the griffon is still near it's location. A second medium sized griffon lands this time closer to your position, it calls to the other in a heckling fashion but seems to do a similar thing to the first which watches you with eyes.

What the rest of you want is to go after Nym an' do whatever the Count wants. Be his lackeys. You want that? Be my guest. Yah want tah be friends? Then start treatin' me like I'm not cannon fodder." Echo smiles soon afterwards "Yah don't know them so don't act yah do. We're all killers, backstabbers an' bullies. Well some of us are. Might be. Okay maybe not." She looks around and sees the birdies again "Pretty. Live to tell the tale of being someones lackeys. Right. Sure." She shifts into Lyra's form minus the gear "Rawwrrr!" She smiles again and hops around before changing back to the halfling form "Of course everyone will take yer side. I expect it. Come on now, everyone back the creepy one we just met. Be all buddy with her just tah have her stab yah. I expect it. Yup yup. Yer a freak like all of use. Freaky freak. We are the Nut Jobs." She winks and looks at Lyra "Yah want to do this, then do it. Don't got all day. Chop chop. Wait. Nothing? Alright. Down the yellowbrick rode." She hops again and looks up at the gryphons and shrugs as she almost slams into Jay "Hey you! Yeah you!" A wink to Jayson and she looks around "Mall still here?." She yawns and stretches and goes quiet staring up at the gryphons as if she sees something else. Her eyes narrow.

"I've got no reason to stab you in the back, skin-shifter. You're quite possibly the most annoying, self-focused person I've ever laid eyes on, so I might enjoy your company about as much as cannon fodder, but at least I showed some concern - which you've ignored. This one here," Lyra pointed toward Jaysen, "who you like to give such shit to, is the one who's stood up for you the most, and he says you're worth all the..." Lyra wasn't quite sure of the word for it, "you. From the short stint I've known you, the person who treats you like fodder has mostly been you."

"Yet you do. You do not know me and yet you act like I do nothing. You do not know what I have been through and I don't want to tell you anyways. I don't care what you do-you harm any of us and I will kill you. You have not shown anyone concern. I protect them. I helped them. And yoou have done nothing but complain because not everyone does what you bloody want. So why don't yah stand there and don't say a damn word? Or be like Jack and vanish. Poof. You stabbed me in the back right now for all your snivelling and complaining because I don't share your views. You could work for Nym for all I know and be lying. Self focused? You get dragged around by the Count unable to live and see how that works for you. And thank you. I am glad I can be the person you focus all your damn attention on. Let's everyone beat down on Echo. Why not? You are the most self absorbed egotisciall self centered brat that expects everyone to do what you want and as soon as someone go against it you whine and complain." The halfling pouts "Need a hug?" She shrugs and smiles "Poor baby. Want some milk and cookies?" She shrugs. And she doesn't sound spiteful. Serious sure. "I'm bored. Can't we all just get along? No? Anyone? Right. Everyone hates Echo. Fine. Don't want my help, so be it." She climbs up onto a boulder and sits down. Pulling out her lute, she starts to play. And Echo stands up, slinging the lute to her back and bows before lookimg up at the birds "All of this because I want to ride you. Go figure." Pondering something, she shrugs and sits down "Now I'm expecting to get ripped into by this person I barely know and I will take it like a grain of salt as it means nothing. So we can go back and forth and I don't want to bother with it. So how bout we just sing a song and smile and act like nothing is wrong but have a deep build up of frustraction and anger brewing inside waiting to...." She jumps up "Explode. Boom." She dances a bit "We need to move on and not complain. No one wants tah be here but that doesn't mean we can't have fun. No? Nevermind. Lets all go find Nym and do whatever the Count wants, bow to him. Let's do it. I'll go quiet now and expect someone to stab me in the back. Wham! Boom! Splat!" She bows and shrugs again.

Lyra wasn't sure why she'd even bothered. She had thought she would never meet someone worse than Rez, but this was what she got for making assumptions.

After the changeling's insane rant was over, Lyra shook her head as she worked on getting her mind focused back on the necromancer as she continued on toward the town.

The large human paid no heed to Gryphons who were just resting for all he knew, little changelings who thought they were the center of the universe, or those who rightly or not lost patience. Jaysen kept his mouth shut and kept moving. At this point he was likely a hundred feet or more ahead, with no sign of slowing.

The griffons all the sudden take flight in the sky and are joined by yet another medium sized griffon. Their calls give way to the sky as they darken the sun with their shadows. One by one they start swooping lower and lower, closer to the group. All the sudden the group hears some faint cries from above that sound like the Griffins but much smaller in calls. The Calls seem to hasten their flight and altogether they swoop down from their location and begin the attack.

As Jaysen swings around trying to hit the creature the griffon on that was attacked with the fire tries to disengage from Muirryl and starts flapping it's wings to the sky. (Muirryl you get a free attack)

The second Griffon on top of Jaysen tries peaking at his face and clawing at his armor but the bird hits air.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

Muirryl takes a swing at the griffon as it attempts to disengage.  "Don't like much of that, do you, buzzard?!"

The griffin, dragging itself from under his clumsy swing, begins to ascend.

Muirryl looks about, surveying the three griffons.  "We need to find cover.  Force them to come one at a time, or not at all.  Fall back!"

Seeing two of the beasts out of reach, Muirryl backtracks towards Jaysen, and attempts to swipe the other beast with a battering strike.

In between stressful moments, Muirryl remembers to breathe.

Muirryl makes an attack of opportunity against the griffin.
16:24, Today: Muirryl Blackhonor rolled 10 using 1d20+5, rerolling max ((5)).  That looks like a miss.

Move: Close to the beast atop Jaysen
Action: Attack the griffon  16:28, Today: Muirryl Blackhonor rolled 16 using 1d20+5 ((11)).  Attack Jaysen's griffon.  Looks like a likely hit.
Damage 16:29, Today: Muirryl Blackhonor rolled 12 using 1d8+5 ((7)). Damage to the griffon.

Feel free to describe the hit if it does connect.  That looks like solid damage.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

OOC: Please once again make sure you mark the number of the creature you are attacking. It makes resolving very hard when I have to do back and do the math because it means I am guessing.

IC: As the Muirryl swings on the Griffon that attacks him he finds that his swing as the creature takes flight leaves nothing but air. The badly hurt Griffon looks like it is not coming back for a fight. Meanwhile the other Griffon that attack Jaysen is very vicious in it's attacks. Still the team manages to come together dealing blow after blow to the creature which takes it's toll on the beast. However, unlike the first Griffon this one seems intent on sticking out the fight.

Chapter 4: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

The swing of the hammer was medicine for Muirryl's pain.  Each throb drove his hammer forward, and he smote the air as much as he smote the Griffin he was attacking.  "Take the hint, buzzard!  There's easier food elsewhere."

The griffin easily evaded the rhythmic swings of Muirryl's hammer, but he was more concerned about creating space for Jaysen to maneuver as he was driving the beast to the ground.

08:25, Today: Muirryl Blackhonor rolled 6 using 1d20+5 ((1)).  Thank goodness there's no critical miss.

Muirryl will stand his ground, hoping to take the blow if the griffon attempts to attack him in retaliation.

The Griffon comes to life just in time to jump up sending Echo backing up from her stance. The creature you can tell does not like the rope and rather prefers to fly than stay on the ground. It doesn't directly attack you but you can tell it's not in the mood to stay with it's attackers.

Meanwhile down on the ground close to where Jaysen and Lura are the two look around trying to get an idea of the distance seeing a hill not far from the foot of the mountains. A small trek takes you to a hill that gives you an idea. You can see that the town itself seems pretty open, you can make out that people are outside and busy going about their daily lives. To the left of the town much further off in the distance is a area that has a small foot hills that looks like a cemetery. Other than that you don't see anything that looks out of place.
