Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

My guess is we're far from both.

If Galem was from Lorien, then we had to cross the Misty Mountains to reach it, and the sea is quite far west...

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

In reply to Berthold (msg # 429):

TY! Things Elly would know I simply do not. That's a really huge help!

My thoughts: Galen is too far from the sea for burial there and too far to be repatraited in Lorien.
However, we didn't want orcs to dig him up and eat him so we've taken his remains to Helm's Deep where his grave will be less prone to interference.
(Also means Incanus doesn't have to edit msg #1 in The Road Forward).
How's the above sound?

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

In ROhan (no need to reach Helm's Deep, as it wil ltake some days more and we cannot preserve the Corpse) I guess Berthold can make sure Galen receives a proper funeral.

After all, he died helping two Rohirrim to rescue their comrades, and that's a debt of honor....

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

Check out the map I just put in the maps and Images thread.

Galen was indeed from Lorien, which you can see North of Rohan and West of Rhovanion.

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

Perhaps burial where he fell, or some hand-waving on why we've not simply headed east to Lorien?

We also needed to return the uncoscious fellow for care/long term recovery hence us going to the Gap.

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

In any case, crossing over the mountains is not hand-waved away.  Due East from you were means going through the Gap to keep going east, or along the south of the White Mountains to Minas Tirith.

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

No, I meant originally- head east from where we were straight to Lorien rather than south to the Gap. But Elly re-caffeinated my thinking. Aiming to post IC today

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

Yeah, that still would have meant crossing over the Misty Mountains (using the Redhorn Pass) or under them (going through Moria), or going around them, as you did.

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

Yes, that is the new IC thread.  I left the other open so as to not cut off any conversations mid way.

We are now firmly into a more sandbox setup.  You guys need to work out, here OOC and also IC, where you want to go.  I’ll throw hooks and such and if you pick them up, fine.  If you don’t that’s fine also, and you keep moving on.

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

Hey gang!

Melethron is a Silvan Elf Mage, twin brother of Melethril.

Melethril and I are new to MERP but have been Roleplaying for 38 years and will pick it up as we go along.

And Melethril is a Silvan Elf Animist.  They both gravitated to magic, even if in different directions.

I'm guessing by the description in the current thread that they must be close to the Fords of Isen.

I'd propose it's in a location suitable for the story and from which the brave adventuers can set out (and personally not worry too much beyond that).

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

Hey Elly Shae,

Thanks for that.  I understand where you are coming from but we're not all the same.  I, as I'm sure we all do, appreciate the painstaking efforts Tolkien took to create such a vast and vibrant world, from creating complex languages, to the many different cultures, mythologies and histories, as well as to the amazingly detailed Geography of a world spanning many changes throughout three ages... So for me, to just hand wave stuff like 'where in Middle earth are we is to not fully appreciate all the effort Tolkien poured into this grand world... Asking for a general idea of where in Rohan the party is seems a reasonable question to me, if for anything but my own sheer curiosity.

From a character level, Melethron is also interested, as he and Melethril still need to get to where the party is.  Although, we haven't discussed with the GM yet how the Elves will meet up with you all... whether they will start a seperate thread and make their way there or if we will start our journey as we reach you.  If the later, then a general idea of the area probably isn't as necessary.

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

Melethron, please don’t misunderstand Elly’s response as a disregard for Tolkien’s world building.  The precise location down to a specific named village is not important right now nor determined.  They just arrived in the Gap of Rohan, a well-defined location at the intersection of the Misty and White Mountains, with the Wizard’s Vale and Isenguard to the immediate North.  They will decide which way to go next and I will introduce you and Melethril in their path.

Re: The Green Dragon Inn (OOC)

I didn't mean it to come off that way... as it is I was looking at a map that didn't label the Gap of Rohan on it and I thought it covered more area... Looking at a different map now, that is labeled, it's pretty evident where they are generally.
