Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

A side note on religions in the world, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I excised the Dhia Kovaria from the universe, it does not exist.  The imperium and provinces run their own TBD networks.

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

Vesperos Willbrand:
.. Ves is a) very excited to go and do exciting stuff with his new frenfs, and b) going to do exactly as told by Jewel and Rach because they are, ahem, kind of his bosses. Kind of as in, you can flip a boss and quit your job, but in this case, not really. ...

So, I am not sure that I understand this.  Petra's connection to Rach is tenuous at best.  She ran some low level courier jobs for him previous.  But she is not beholden to him in any way (at least, as her player understands it).  She's not a 'made-man' or really part of his organization other than sometimes he contacts/contracts her for simple work, but she definitely doesn't get any prime jobs or know much about any of the inner workings of his organization.

So, I am wondering it Ves has a different arrangement that can be discussed in public (and if that needs to come out in RP sooner rather than later?)?  Is Ves high in Rach's organization (and then why would/should he associate with Petra, other than 'orders')?  'Cause Petra is small fry at best (or as demonstrated in the opening scenario, fairly expendable).

@GM, let me know if I am completely off-base as to either how Rach's organization works or Petra's role in that organization.

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

To my knowledge none of you are high up in the organization, Ves may be confused about the depth of his involvement.  Not calling him out, but his telepathy puts him in a unique position.  No level 1  character is deep into anything.  You guys are currently living in his city/country and considering the nature of these things, that means you do so with his consent.  But as described at the star, you are freelance and on the rolls as available for contracts.

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

Hugh Shinjison Hoshikawa:
I get busy for a day and all the posting happens! Welcome Yu and Jacques.

In starting to think that taking Jewel up on the investigation angle makes sense, if it includes transit costs. Hugh isn't broke but will be if we don't find a job but on the jobs available on Hyperion aren't what he really wants. Theoretically, the original, mindwiped, job did require Nat and Petra's skills. Maybe by investigating we pick up some trail of it and that leads to wacky hijinks, adventure.

Also a 'Hello!' to Yu and Jacques!  Yes, RM/SM is a hefty system, so don't feel like you have to rush to get every single detail in place before you jump in  -  there will be plenty of RP happening before you need to know *exactly* what's in your backpack, or before we test out those skills you've been sweating points over.  Better to take your time and craft what you *want* than to feel pressured or rushed into something you're not 100% happy with.

We've got some hoops to get through before we're knee-deep in the next adventure <<insert "Benny Hill Theme" / "Yakety-Sax" here...>>.

In the interest of getting things rolling, and having been disussing this with Petra's player at length off-off-screen, we think Hugh has the right idea:  take the offer of getting off planet, maybe pursue the 'missing memories' lead if opportunity and skill capacity allow, and see what we stumble across in the process.  The intent is, of course, to find something that will keep these characters all in, essentially, one place, or a *reason* for us to stay together, beyond mere financial gain/convenience.

So, over in the IC thread, that's what the two of us will be doing.

Discuss amongst yourself, either here or there.  :-)

Happy here to take an intro/cue in whereever.
Or a solo if that's required to make an overlap easier.
But am keen to do something, regardless what 'something' tastes like.

Okay, at this point Jacques, Yu and Catherine will be met on Akaisha Outstation.  Jacques and Yu, you should have access to your character sheets for editing.

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

From the book:

Outstation: The Outstation is the interstellar counterpart of the Instation although its
primary function differs slightly. The Deep Space Outstation, as it is more properly called,
often takes the role of Tachyon Beam Dictor relay base, as they are constructed along
important communication lines where there is no convenient star system within which
to place a more conventional relay station. They also serve as supply bases for the fleets
or the political entity which has constructed and staffed the structure. Outstations
are not perfectly stationary, as, like other celestial bodies, they circle the galactic core.

In Addition:

Akaisha sits on the edge of Devonian space on the border with the Imperium, and also Colos, Jade-London and Kashmere have nearby possessions.  The emperor decided sometime ago that the location was too strategic and so placed some security troops there to augment Devonian security, and also an administrator with some staff.  The station is a way station that sees a lot of traffic.

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

Whew, I have just finished reading the IC threads.

Now to outfit my character and finish my sheet.

If you have any advice for outfitting, feel free to enlighten the Space Master newbie.

Question of the Day: what gear are you either the most thankful to have or the most regretful not to have?  :o

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

In reply to Yu Tian You (msg # 537):

I don't think there's any Must Have gear in SM. there's some stuff that's really useful to have if you can afford it, but other than something like the personal barrier shield that's really expensive (if you didn't get it from background, you're probably not getting it) it's all specific to the role you're playing. As a doctor/medic there's some tech that's useful, but it should be pretty self explanatory. Weapons and Armor are more complex because of how Space Master combat works (they didn't refer to the system as Chart Master back in the day for no reason) but ultimately, carrying what makes sense for the character is probably going to be fine, just know that a small holdout pistol is going to be largely ineffective against heavily armored people, for example. The rest of the gear is just what the writers thought would be futuristic in the 80's and a lot of it is really just stuff we have today.

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

Jacques, Yu, how is it going?  Character sheets and Descriptions I'll need before you can join.

For outfitting, you will get a free pistol (energy or projectile) and two clips for it.  Get yourself the best armor that won't restrict your movement.  Yu should also have a medscanner and at least a first aid kit.  There are some medical equipment where certain ranks in Medical Doctor is required before you can buy it legally.  If you can afford such stuff, we can work it out in-game if you want to pursue it.

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

Catherine is ready to go, for those of you in the Interlude thread, are we ready to close out the scene?  I will shortly (today or tomorrow) put up the new game thread.

For planning purposes, Catherine, Jacques and Tian You will be on Akaisha when the rest arrive.

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

In reply to Game Master (msg # 541):

I'm good with moving forward to where the rest of the players can join us. The only thing that I think needs a little resolution is why Ves would be joining us/why we would have him. We've been told he's a telepath with the implication that he's beholden somehow to Rath so there's not much reason to embrace him yet (specific skills that would be useful and a (flimsy is ok) reason to trust him.)

And very motivated, don't forget! And horribly, horribly young.

But yeah, I'll leave that up to the GM before Ves puts his foot in his mouth.

I'm ok with moving on!

Re: Nexus Cafe (OOC)

Two things about Vesperos' situation.  1) he was asked to come to the meeting and join you guys simply because he is a telepath and they figured he might know something about this stuff and could be helpful; and 2) Rach doesn't have any stronger hold over him that he does over you guys; at worst, Ves is an unregistered telepath in hiding.  I have no story reason to link him up, but if he has any motivation to get off of Hyperion this is a good opportunity.

I think he's quite intrigued by what happened and frankly would love to strike out. Never underestimate a 19-year-old's wanderlust.
