Party Two: Brass Cat Tavern

Descalceus silently judges the men of  Ocel, his smile disappearing, and his half-naked walk becoming more a proud display of freedom that, in his experience, only a faithful Vareene exemplifies. The Sky Gods know how many crimes Ocel has committed against his tribe and fellow children of the gods. He shakes his head at the intrusive thoughts, taking a deep breath of the salty air and tells his new friends, “There is nothing quite like the winds through the sacred blooms of the Great Adwys Forest this time of year. However, these waters may become my fourth favorite scent.”

With a skip in his step, the aasimar’s ghostly halo is slightly more visible as he clutches the holy symbol hanging on his bare chest. Descalceus genuflects with his free hand behind Bron and Javin’s heads respectively, praying, “Blessed Althea, Avenging Angel, let thy transcendent wisdom of mercy and justice be our Emboldening Bond. Stay high!”

Descalceus maintained his new friends’ pace, enjoying the wooden sensations of the docks beneath his bare feet, and the holy symbol of his deity in his hand.

Not sure if he has met any of three soldiers, as he has given many medical aid in his time in the city, Javin simply nods his head in recognition as he passes by them.

Though the soldiers did not seem familiar to Javin they stood and saluted him as he passed. The look of suspicion they had given the other two eased as they save him. Still, as they returned to their crates one of them kept an eye on Descalceus and Bron. The other two set about returning to their game, laughing and shouting.

Javin just nods at the guards in recognition, no longer feng it necessary to return salutes, since he is out of the army now.  However, he notes the their initial looks to his companions, and the continued gaze as the travel onward to the ship.

Finally ending the struggle of getting one of Kael's white feathers out of his mouth, Descalceus steps up between Bron and Javin and speaks in a hushed tone that carries.

"Veterans, I am duty bound to act upon revelation. Kael scouted ahead and saw members of the Brass Cat audience are chained within this Ocel boat. Javin, if their boat is marked as a prison ship, I must try to give hope to the captives. But if not, I must then preach redemption to their captors. Then, I will go onto Henma's Fist. Is theirs a prison ship?

The cleric does not break their stride.

"Who is Kael? I want to mess him up. Or something." The owlin looks over his shoulder at the cleric. And the look he gives well nevermind. It just looks like a look. Owl "Right. Preaching won't get them free. But if you want, go for it. This'll be funny." Kael flies up into the air and scouts the area, keeping clear of the military ship. He does land on the mast of the other ship and seems to dissapear. Maybe.

I can't see myself. I am Kael!

Bron nodded to Descalceus. "That is definitely a prison ship. I have seen their kind before. I heard they take them to an island to the South." He slowed his stride to see what Descalceus would do.

The aasimar cleric grins, flexing both arms into fists for a gesture of strength.

"Gods will it..!", he exclaims without being loud. "I shall request audience to pray for them all..." Descalceus begins walking the dozen or so yards diagonal space across from the Henma's Fist on the boardwalk.

"...According to the protocols of the Temple of the Sky Gods, to which Ocel must also obey. I have a brief tract to read. Althea will have her souls." He genuflects with a joyful countenance and approaches the trio of Ocel's soldiers.

Javin smacks his hand against his forehead.  He hisses, Damnable priest!  You are going to get us all chained up with them!  Then we can do them no good at all!
He attempts to catch up to the cleric in hopes of pulling him back to the direction they had been headed.

Descalceus lets out a frustrated grunt, turning right back around on his third step after the first two words. He fidgeted with his amulet and gently put his free hand on Javin's shoulder, continuing the path to the Brightwater ship.

There was frustration in the whisper of his voice. "No, I will not jeopardize our sacred ride! Yes, I would flip their little table and whip them into the afterlife. But my calling is to be Althea's cleric of peace. That is the Avenging Angel's ultimate dominion, and my purpose."

Descalceus takes a deep breath of the salty sea breeze. "I'm sorry." He says, moving forward.

One guard stood while holding onto the staff device. the others watched.  He took two steps from behind the crate. "A priest huh? You travel with strange company."

He stroked his chin with his free hand.  After a moment’s thought he stepped aside. "Do your duties, their souls could use blessings." He locked gazes with Descalceus and continued, "They are traitors of the church. They have a Duty to payback for their faithlessness."

After moving further aside he sized the others of the group on the pier up and down.

The guard do step aside to let Descalceus through to board the ship and talk to the prisoners. The three guards did not seem as ease and kept eyeing their weapons but they made no hostile moves.

Descalceus genuflected the sacred sign of the Sky Gods in the night air, a sign meant more as an active comfort to the cleric rather than for the Ocelean navy's condescension. Nevertheless, the rough looking man in dark blue leathers holding a wood and metal pole contraption would be met with courtesy and respect. Des silently hoped the Emboldening Bond spell still held sway over Bron and Javin as he began embarking.

"May Holy Vatharn, Holy Tallis, and Holy Althaer's mighty hands bless our sacred duty this evening.", he declared, bowing his haloed head before the soldier. The cleric's toes gripped the wood up the gangplank, also making sure the night winds did not take his light blue prayer shawl from him. He was pleased to serve the Vareene and the Sky Gods today on an Ocelean military ship, something he never expected to do.

As they reached the top and boarded, Descalceus turned to Javin with a stifled smile, saying, "This is my first time on a boat his big. Excuse my excitement. Please lead the way, Javin."

The view from the ship of the docks and ward was impressive to the aasimar. The lights of the Henma's Fist across the way reminded him of what precious moments he had to assess the captives, and he heeded Javin.

The guards stood somewhat impatiently but still they stood. Across the ship the thick wood grate over the cargo hold allowed sights of the prisoners below. A few were defiant and had hope at seeing someone other than the soldiers. The rest were broken and barely stirred. Kael loosed the two chains that held them together. They still had on their wrist and ankle shackles but now they were shackled to nothing. The cargo hold has two egresses. There was a door that led to the innards of the ship and presumably to the stairs up to the main deck. And there was the grate which had a thick iron lock. Regular strength would not open it without a prybar and that would make a lot of noise. It did not look difficult to pick. However, opening the grate would be obvious to the guards given it would stick up ten feet in the air.

OOC: The lock to the cargo door is DC15, but the lock to the cargo grate is DC10.

The prisoners had been urged on by Descalceus and the ones staring into the distance were now paying attention. Others were waiting to see what actions the others took.

The guard with the staff had a belt of keys, one of which was much larger than the others. Bron noticed that guard got more antsy as time passed. Eventually the guard leveled the staff and pointed it at a target. Bron still had a chance to act before the guard took an action.

The other guards took note of the other and started to draw their weapons.
