Finally found where the replies & RTJs went. The new format is a bit confusing.  Not a computer geek here. First lot of players added, a couple need to include character names to be allowed in. Once those last two are added, I will close for new players.

I am fairly laid back, post when you can, faster during combat sessions. Feel free to start rolling your character's Abilities & starting gold pieces. Name each Ability as you roll it. Remember, you can switch one pair of numbers if you wish !! Still got a "Walking Dead" character, tell me & try again !!.

I play real D&D Friday nights, so you will usually not see me on Fridays. Just so you know. I also work alternate weekends, but I usually check RPOL early evenings once per day (excepting Fridays).

I'll guess you aren't using B/X Options, Class Builder? Or are you considering it?

Moldvay, correct? Not Holmes or Mentzer?

It's looking like Grimrock is going to be a cleric.  That said, does he need to buy his holy symbol?  My strength and starting money rolls have generally sucked.  I'd planned on swapping strength and charisma to take care of the first (he's clearly going to be a warrior priest, not a leader of a flock) but a 25gp holy symbol is going be a big dent in his starting cash.

Like Thieves' tools are 25gp, I rolled 60gp for starting money. Not that it matters, a 10% chance of success is pretty much an auto failure. ;-)

You'll always be high class to us.  Seriously, let's leave it to the DM.  An offer like that will work if we all know each other but might be problematic if we don't.  I've seen DMs state that clerics and thieves, and druids in 1st and 2nd edition, all start their adventuring careers with the basic needs of their profession but, in exchange, get shortchanged on starting cash to buy other stuff.

As far as which one we're using, I asked the DM, but he hasn't replied yet. The actual red book used for B/X should be the Moldvay book, that is the B/X one, the one by Mentzer is the BECMI book. They're close, but not the same. The Holmes version is different too.

OK, a quick catch up. Several questions to respond to.

B/X rules, Red Basic book & Blue Expert book. Perhaps best if you do not run into Bargle at the moment.

Cleric gets a free holy symbol for passing his schooling. Not the most impressive, which a real one would be for 25 GP. It works for the moment ... Cleric I believe gets no starting spells, but your Turn Undead is available for use at level 1.

Thief also gets a free set of thieving tools for passing his schooling. As per the cleric, not a solid set but will do the job for the moment. Rolling too badly will lead to bent/twisted items ...  Perhaps a Dex check for careful bending & gentle hammering to straighten them out.

I know nothing about BX Builder, simply the B/X books only for the moment. I will check out your link. Money is a bit short, the Windows 8 machine died, so got a Windy 11 to use ...

Starting money is 3D6 x 10 gold pieces. My apologies if I mentioned that wrong.

Anything I missed ?? Will check back later today. Just a regular sized town for starting in, so most stuff is available. I will assume everyone knows each-other from town life. Not well known, but enough for adventuring experiences.

I am working on a character sheet. If someone has a nice one to share ... I thought I allowed editing options for everyone so far.

Oh, no, I think you're giving the dice ideas!  In a Labyrinth Lord game, I got three twenties, I think it was, or at least two in a row to procure adventuring equipment, and then on my first attack roll?  Bupkis!  Naught!  Nuttin'!  Bunk!  Sluggo's I.Q.!  A first-level cleric's spells to cast!

A shift in tactics!?  Artisia bravely leaps forward to distract the snake and throws herself into the snake's mouth, blocking it from using its fangs on any other PC.

I have to do another shift of shoveling, then get down to what's happening. 12 inches of snow arrived today. Weather forecasting, legalized gambling ...

I can't remember the stand-up comic's name but the line was something along the lines of weather forecasting is the one job where you can be right no more the 50% of the time and still be hailed as having a fabulous record.

I lived in Florida from 73 to 95 and my parents still live there so I understand what you mean.  I now live in the very northwest edge of the US's Pacific Northwest and our major weather challenge is generally how much and how long will we be blanketed by smoke from Canada's wildfire.  It's gotten so difficult to predict that even the experts write in their posts how much uncertainty they're dealing with in the prediction models. Essentially, "I think this is going to happen but I'm not really sure because X, Y and Z are unmeasurable effects on what might actually happen."

It takes a lot of reading into things but I've been using earth.nullschool.net to look for regional and larger scale weather effects.  Not good for looking for pollen counts.  I ginned up an Arduino-based particulate monitor to look for wildfire smoke leaking into our house.  I wonder if the same would help you with pollen counts in your immediate area.  If you'd like, feel free to PM for what I did.

A post rate of once a day is often more than I can keep up with.  Work's been quiet so I've been okay lately but I can rapidly go from having time to post once or twice a day to not being able to think through a post more than every couple of days.  Post rate was something I was concerned about when I sent the RTJ.  If the group wants to accelerate the post rate, can we decide that now as I'd bow out early rather than get invested and not be able to keep up?  This may come across as whining - didn't mean it that way but I don't play in a game to get frustrated at my inability to keep up with the actions.

The bane of RP-ing by what is essentially an email system. Every 2 days often enough ?? If players openly state they are too busy, then we can make allowances. Likewise with vacations. I can 'bump' characters along during the interim too. But, not knowing is the major issue here.

Anneth did send me a note several days ago, but nada since.

We can start moving along what appears to be the Eastern passageway while Anneth tags along. I believe Percy made a marching order suggestion, its a matter of how each character wishes to proceed along. Quickly, slowly, average speed ?? How carefully are you looking ... Moving along a wall or the middle of the passage ?? Poking about with a stick or sword ??

Three times a week, every other day, are both a decent speed for most folks. Just because I or someone else posts a few extra times doesn't mean anyone should feel obligated to do the same!

Can you put up a thread so folks can announce when they have rl issues, family, work, vacation and such, when they're leaving, when they'll be back, more or less, because real life can always rear it's ugly head and throw a wrench in the gears.

Nooby/Sword, welcome to the game and to D&D in general.  It shouldn't be too difficult to find pdfs of the D&D basic and Expert rulebooks if you want to.  I'd long ago given up D&D for Advanced D&D (long ago name change referencing a long ago political and monetary fight among the game designers) but was still able to find pdfs for this game.

Depending on what rpg systems you're used to, you might find that D&D is pretty open ended, relying on the DM to make sense of player actions with very little hard and fast guidance from the rules.  That said, it's easy for a nooby as the DM has a lot of latitude to translate what you want your character to do into what the rules can work with.

Same, same!  A lot of mine, like Anneth, that have showed up in other games, were built around Ability Score rolls.  Or, even Dungeon Master spell selections or secondary skills!

My sister found my B/Ex hard copies at a used book store.  I paid her back with the 5th Edition Core Rulebooks!  The rest of my collection was either found at used book stores, SOMETIMES bought from big box retailers (i.e., Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble), or conventions/shows coworker runs.  Then, there's the online purchases...

Real cool dude, too!  He's local to the area I live in.  I gave him a Print-on-Demand from DM's Guild to sign last year, and he seemed VERY distraught at the printing.  I said, "Well, I've gotta be pragmatic..."; I recall he just nodded and signed.  Kate Novak was at the first signing I went to, too!  She loaded my sister's F.R. novels and my Setting book with some ink, along with Mister Grubb.
