The constant problem of infravision is basically the whole party needs to use it or be high enough level to be able to buy/make continual light items otherwise the non-infravision-users all need torches, candles or lanterns to see anything.  If Wulf is to use infravision, putting him at the back of the party would mean he'd either lose that ability or leave the humans in the party blind.  How about he uses it as a scout, like Percy but drops back into the group if we get close to monsters?

The classic decisions ... I'll let this go for another day & start the action going Monday night.

I forgot to ask about watches, but will leave that decision to the players when they opt to rest. Wounded characters & tactical situations would be more practical in this instance.

 Another newcomer to town is Anneth, a magic-user.  To hear it from her, she was born in a Glantrian border-town and learned the foundations of arcana from a slew of mages.  After so many lessons and so many years, she felt a growing stagnation and she made her way south.  And, here she is...
 On the surface she is a bright and charming sort, with a shrewd and decisive bent to her that has not likely been tested overmuch.  Her features are striking, with blue eyes and red hair.  Her dress is showy but functional, consisting of dyed fabrics.

Anneth can stay close to the rear when in dungeons and when exploring... She's got a pretty decent Charisma score, all things considered and knows Common, Neutral, and Bugbear (I rolled randomly...), so if such situations come up that hse might be needed to talk... she can talk!  And, if talking doesn't work, she knows charm person.

Andry has infravision as well and is an armored tank so ideally he’d be close to the front for combat.

Starting Dungeon Adventure

OK, we start out with you deciding to search out a local dungeon to gain a local reputation & some cash along with anything else you can haul off.

After a hearty breakfast, you depart River's Bend for the wilderness outside the town walls. A warm spring day, moving along at a quick traveling pace thru the known area of farms & such. By about late afternoon, you reach the true wilderness edge, following a game trail as it winds along a lower region. Not a swamp, reasonably dry actually.

As you start pondering stopping for the night, a wind whips up & the ground shakes. You've all experienced the earth shaking, but this is actually the strongest any of you have previously experienced. A fault appears, suddenly zig zagging along your path. Before anyone can take any actions, the earth collapses sucking you all into its maw. Down you go, into the earthen realms ...

Everyone please roll 1D12 for your distance pushed/shoved ahead as you slide downwards.

Everyone roll 1D10 for determining if you are shifted to the right / left / ahead / or behind.

Let me know your results as Distance & Shifting.

Eventually the dust settles, somewhat. You look around to find each-other. The roaring in your ears eventually dims, only to be replaced by another type of noise, a loud rattling sound. Close, very close ...

Clayton is a handsome, local youth. He was average height and weight but attractive. He didn't want to spend his life bashing goblins or fighting trolls, so he asked his father to arrange for him to take his Holy Orders and become a cleric. Clayton is dressed in brown but wearing chainmail. He has light brown hair and blue eyes, a short, well trimmed beard frames a handsome face with white even teeth. It is hard for him to keep his mind on his work with the local girls always pestering him but he manages, for the most part.

He had joined them late and had said little, trailing them as they moved about, now, startled Clayton tried to get his bearings and act as best he can:

07:35, Today: Clayton rolled 3 using 1d10. – 3 Direction

07:35, Today: Clayton rolled 9 using 1d12. – 9 Distance

But Clayton is hurled far away!

07:09, Today: Anneth rolled 3,9 using 1d12,1d10 ((3,9)).
Distance: 3
Direction: 9

 Anneth falls much like her companions.  Her landing is "flat on her face", and there is some VERY upset groaning coming from her.  She rolls once so that she is upright following her tumble, lurches forward, finds herself suffering from what must be "Vertigo", and then slowly rights herself.  She pats at her hip for her silver-bladed dagger...

In between shoveling sessions, I'm working on this.

Distance & Direction will determine your starting locations.

Initiative will determine your order of actions.

Looks like I need Initiative rolls for Wulf, Anneth & clayton. Roll 1D20 + Dex mod. If I missed it, just state it in a new message so I can easily find it.

I'll roll initiative for the Beast & Dungeon. Beast so you can see where it acts ... Dungeon for random GM  mischief ... Falling rocks, uplifting floor, etc ... Probably 1D8 = 1.

OK, Turn Zero is an earthquake surprise, the ground collapses in places sending everyone into the ground ...

As the ground ceases shaking, the dust begins to settle & some vision returns. Still dusty down there ... I rolled initiative for Anneth & Wulf to get us moving along.

The 1D10 direction roll is 1-3 go left, 4-6 go straight ahead , 7-9 go right, while 10 means moving backwards.

The 1D12 Distance is your distance in feet of movement. & are noted below. Minimal movement was taken as being semi-buried in the debris. Waist high would take all combat round to get out while knee high takes 1/2 of movement to get out.

Distance also indicates how far away from the beast's shaking itself you are ...

Using the order of wilderness march:  Clayton (rear) - Anneth - Percy - Gimrock - Andry - Wulf (front).

  Clayton = pushed left 3 feet;

  Anneth = pushed left 9 feet, buried to knees;

  Percy = pushed right 2 feet, buried to knees;

  Gimrock = pushed straight ahead 10 feet;

  Andry = pushed left 12 feet;

  Wulf = pushed straight ahead 2 feet, buried up to waist.

Very dim light in a circular chamber, almost complete darkness which becomes total darkness at end of this surprise turn. Infravision fritzed at the moment as sliding earth & stones produce some friction.

Loud un-natural noise to everyone's rear as something writhes under a deluge of debris & such. Some up/down/sideways movement as some beast struggles to free itself.

Combat Round 1, Initiative order: Anneth / Dungeon ~ earthquake happened / Percy / Beast ~ shaking debris off itself / Wulf / Andry / Clayton / Gimrock.

What are we doing ??

Clayton helped Anneth as well, he wasn't much good in a fight, so he depended on the others to do most of the fighting. Still, he would grab his mace once Anneth was freed and defend himself and his friends.
