Re: OOC Community Chat 4

Of course, that conflicts slightly with the monster manual, stating that they strongly resemble orcs:

quote:
Half-orcs
Orcs will crossbreed with virtually every humanoid and demihuman species except elves, with whom they cannot. The mongrel offspring of orcs and these other species are known as half-orcs. Orc-goblins, orc-hobgoblins, and orc-humans are the most common. Half-orcs tend to favor the orcish strain heavily, and as such are basically orcs, although 10% of these offspring can pass as ugly humans. They are treated as humans with levels instead of Hit Dice. If multi-classed, they have these maximums: priest, 4th level; fighter, 10th level; thief, 8th level.
If half-orcs remain single-classed, these maximums increase to: priest, 7th level (Wisdom 15 required for 5th, Wisdom 16 for 6th, Wisdom 17 for 7th); fighter, 17th level (Strength 18/00 required for 11th, Strength 19 for 12th, Strength 20 for 14th, and Strength 21 for 17th); thief, 11th level (Dexterity 15 required for 9th, Dexterity 16 for 10th, and Dexterity 17 for 11th).
Half-orcs are distrusted by both human and orc cultures because they remind each of the other's racial stock. Half-orcs advance in orc culture by flaunting their superior ability and in human culture by associating with people who don't care about appearance. Most tend toward neutrality with slight lawful and evil tendencies, but lawful good half-orcs are not unknown. Some half-orcs have split from both cultures to form their own societies in remote areas. These half-orcs worship their own gods and (like most hermits) are extremely suspicious of strangers.

Re: OOC Community Chat 4

But I've always pictured them more as described in the 3rd edition (as being tall and large).  In fact, I think we should go with this:

quote:
Physical Description: Half-orcs stand between 6 and 7 feet tall
and usually weigh between 180 and 250 pounds. A half-orc’s grayish
pigmentation, sloping forehead, jutting jaw, prominent teeth, and
coarse body hair make his lineage plain for all to see.

Orcs like scars. They regard battle scars as tokens of pride and
ornamental scars as things of beauty. Any half-orc who has lived
among or near orcs has scars, whether they are marks of shame
indicating servitude and identifying the half-orc’s former owner, or
marks of pride recounting conquests and high status. Such a half-orc
living among humans may either display or hide his scars,
depending on his attitude toward them.

So the races should resemble generally this picture:

Okay.  More like an NFL linebacker.  Makes more sense.

LOL what did you think would happen? Adaran wouldn't injure Kahan over a sword that doesn't even belong to him. :)

Re: OOC Community Chat 4

Adaran actually was concerned for Kahan's safety, believe it or not. He knows Kahan wouldn't stand a chance against Borimer, which means the longer they fought, the more injured Kahan would get. It was either neutralize Kahan or neutralize Borimer. Adaran knows Borimer would fight hard to regain his sword if Kahan managed to wrest it from him - which means Kahan was the more logical target. It was either blind or sap one of them, and he decided it was best not to render anyone unconscious right now. :)

Re: OOC Community Chat 4

not sure if it matters, but perhaps kahan should give the scabbard back so that borimer will sheath the sword. it probably doesnt matter now that i think about it, but it cant hurt, right?  :-)

Kahan didn't actually pick up the scabbard, but Heath said it was there, so just assume it's back. ;)

Re: OOC Community Chat 4

The funny thing is, it was Adaran who originally gave the sword to Borimer when he first found it back in Ailamere's cave. I wonder how grateful he is now? ;)

Just to avoid any potential confusion, while Adaran may despise Draaz and be furious at the moment, I myself am actually enjoying the game and am not really mad at all about Adaran dying and all of that. It was an interesting adventure in the Ethereal Plane. :)

Re: OOC Community Chat 4

I'm unsure of how much Kahan knows about dragons, but here's what I figured out from the 3.5 site (I can't imagine they've changed dragons much since then):

The Bronze is likely pointing to the Silver (silver are ice/cold dragons)
The Brass is likely pointing to the Copper dragon (brass has sleep breath)
The Copper likely hunts the Brass (although I'm not sure, it could be Gold)

As far as the Gold and Silver go, the listings I've got aren't very definitive about locations.

I wish I was there for the dragon box.  I love these kind of puzzles.  I'm pretty sure I figured it out but I won't say anything.  :)

Re: OOC Community Chat 4

I'd just like to point something out, since I believe this puzzle has now been solved and it's safe to share things that merely involve basic logic:

If you accept the following as true:

All dragons except Gold must be faced by at least one dragon (i.e. all except Gold are "prey" to something)
Bronze faces Silver (for the reason Kahan gave)
Brass faces Copper (for the reason Kahan gave)
Silver faces Copper (since Copper "dwells on lofty heights")
Gold faces Bronze (since Bronze, which lives in water, is the only dragon that never shares any of Gold's various land-based homes)

...then Copper must face Brass (and Copper is "a dragon not of Water")

One question before we do decide; what directions are the dragons facing right now before we spin them?

Re: OOC Community Chat 4

Believe it or not, you are getting to the climax of this adventure!  You are finally, finally almost there.  Did you ever think this day would come?

Housekeeping issues:

1- I'm assuming Borimer's sword is always sheathed unless told otherwise (please make sure it's clear, because it only speaks when unsheathed)

2- Who has possession of the portable hole?

3- Who has possession of the Ikishi Sceptre?

4- Azaron is always helping and assisting Zhou

5- What is the party marching order?
