Just wanted to ask, do you think "Phase Matters" is going to continue? Or do you intend to transplant remaining PCs ?

Sorry for delays, everyone. I had to take a quick trip across the pond to the US for a summit and no free time. Back home now and ready for business...

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

Everyone, I am now back from the longest vacation I have taken since 2018. I'm buried in work but I have delayed you guys for too long and feel guilty. I'm going to jump back into this over the weekend and also give a quick summary since time has passed.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

I'm so sorry, guys! When I got back from vacation, things went crazy. In addition to making up the work, the main guy under me quit, so I had extra work plus recruiting, plus my wife is in another country right now so I am also a full time single dad until August...

Did I mention crazy? Anyway, I should have at least posted here. I apologize.

What I'm going to do is a light reset. The only thing here is this one encounter, finding some more clues about Tarimar and that (which he buried under the corpse of his servant here, whom he also killed). And then perhaps a quick guerrilla tactic encounter with that pesky dragon on your way back to the gnomes.

But I will just get you back there since this the end of the very long adventure, and we can start with some fresh things. I have good things in store...just need real life time to get it put together for you.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

I actually think I'd rather just drop out of this game, at least for now. Kahan has basically reached the pinnacle of priesthood, between the fact that he no longer gets hit dice when he levels, and the sheer amount of XP needed to level, he's going to be sorely underpowered soon, not to mention the fact that I lost easily my most powerful magical item because we couldn't agree to do the thing that ended up happening to Geebo anyway (even though I never really got to use it properly because we couldn't agree on how it worked from day to day). Should you guys get to a point where you end up rolling new, lower-level characters, let me know and I'll come back.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

If you guys prefer lower level characters, that's fine with me. I don't have the HD cap, so you continue to gain hit points in the same way. I also don't follow the XP amounts in the book. I look at percentages of levels and then distribute fairly so you will go up a level every 1-2 adventures.

The Mace of Disruption was always the item I thought was Kahan's most powerful...if it makes a difference, we can continue to use the Rod. (Didn't know he was so attached to it. :)

From here, I plan on us departing from the long slog of dungeon crawl to have much more interaction with NPCs in shorter adventures.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

In choosing which way you want to go next. If you want to have more NPC interaction, intrigue, etc., then go to the city. If you want another quest adventure, choose the boat.

The first one involves solving a mystery at the palace, and then a couple smaller ones in an order not chosen depending on results.

In the boat one, you will have a short boat mystery adventure, followed by a desert trip (coming back the Djinni discussed earlier), ending in a snow adventure.

My original plan was that you guys would defeat the Syndicate and Tarimar, overcome the Source of Magic, and this sets everything right with the world after its major disruption due to the Time alteration, and bringing in former NPCs for cameos. Then they would retire to their castles and you would restart as low level PCs who perhaps reported to your original PCs. But that was a large scale plan.

I remember as a teenager my friends and I used to bring chips and sodas when did RPG games. We get together once a year when we can still to play board games. The last time, we were passing around reading glasses and treating each other to nice dinners. The times changed, but our group dynamics are the same as they were 38 years ago.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

RULE QUESTION FOR YOU:
Given the high levels of the spellcasters and the long time period to get through an adventure (or even a day) on RPOL, I am thinking of changing the spellcaster rules as follows:

Rather than determining spells the day before, you have an allotment of points to spend. You can spend those points on any spells throughout the day (even duplicates).

EXAMPLE:
Under the current rule, Rathbone can cast 3 level 1 spells, 2 level 2 spells, and 1 level 3 spell.

Under the new rule, he would convert these to points as follows:
3 level 1 spells (1 point for 1st level x 3 spells = 3 points)
2 level 2 spells (2 points for 2nd level x 2 spells = 4 points)
1 level 3 spell (3 points for 3rd level spell x 1 spell = 3 points)

Rathbone has 10 points to spend as desired on any available level 1, 2 or 3 spells. These points come back after rest (like normal rules).

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

That would be helpful.  It's nice to be able to determine what spell to cast at the time of casting.  However sometimes after several encounters I run out spells for a particular level, typically 3rd.  If I had a bank of spell points this would not happen.

Re: OOC Community Chat 5

I wanted to get a preference from everyone on where  to go next with this campaign. Options are:

1) Continue, and if anyone else drops, advertise for new player
2) Start a new level 1 campaign.

If 1:
1) Continue the several adventures until the planned conclusion of the campaign or
2) Have one last adventure that wraps it all up, for good or ill

If 2, then:
1) Continue in this same world?
2) Continue with the sister world Tienna (less magic, more orcs)
3) Start a new world?

If 3, then what kind?
1) Fantasy adventure world similar to this
2) Low magic, more intrigue, maybe horror?
3) Historical Japan but with fantasy and monster elements from that culture (As many of you know, I live in Japan and have expertise here, which is why I considered this)

Something else?
Trying to get ideas. Feel free to give multiple ideas or whatever your thoughts are. I kind of wanted to finish this campaign out, and I can squeeze it to a shorter resolution if needed.

I would prefer to stick with Tahldar. I don't want to start over with a new character.

1)Continue, and if anyone else drops, advertise for new player

1) Continue the several adventures until the planned conclusion of the campaign
