Can you all please start putting it in the game info, or on your game ad, or somewhere visible that your game uses milestone leveling (if it does).

It's starting to become more popular but it's not for everyone.

Yeah good point.

I'd not mind using XP every now and then but most players avoid it. So I stopped trying.

I keep track of XP behind the scenes since the scratchpad exists.

But yes this is something that should be upfront to people if you're using milestone

thats fine, keeping track of it behind the scenes still means its based on xp and personally I dont need to know when we hit xp for level. but There tends to be a distinct feeling between "you all great each other and now level up, now go to that one fight and we will be leveling up again after that but then we wont level up again until 1000 fights later" and "you all greet each other, and now theres a goblin invasion, after 5 battles you all level up... and if you guys stick around and manage to survive/stop the seige then you may level up again."

Actually, you should probably assume that they're using milestone rewards unless you hear otherwise.   Not only is it more convenient (and less grindy) from a GMing perspective, but some adventure paths seem to use it.

in the two pathfinder games I helped co-DM we used experience. I'll need to go find milestone and listen to it.

In the bright spot that is the knowledge of everything, I'm on the hex farthest from.

Milestone is where you advance based on reaching certain points in the story.  I was actually looking though one of the old Star Frontiers modules and noticed that system uses milestone advancement.

In reply to Hunter (msg # 7):

Partially, but it's also based on degree of success and on participation. And the phrasing in the actual rules puts in terms of "evening of play" not "point in the story," though the adventures themselves seem to imply that evenings of play should end at the conclusion of a section of the adventure.

Milestone leveling sounds like something from a video game so I think I will keep running all my games as per the rules of each game system.

Video games? You mean those things that are great at recording incremental numbers but have no means of distinguishing narrative significance or dramatic rhythm?

I think you have that backwards, Captain.
