A place to explain RPOL for screen-reader users?

A couple of us have been explaining RPOL for screen-reader users AKA blind & visually impaired individuals, and it has occured to two of us that simply doing a writ up and posting it somewhere would probably be easier.  The big issue is:
  • I don't know if this would violate anything, I don't think so based on the FAQ, but am not sure on that.
  • And I'm not sure where it should be put. The beginner's thread seems best to me, but am not sure on this point, anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

No, that idea doesn't violate any of the site's rules.  And yes, Beginners would be the ideal place to post it.

Once you've posted it in Beginners, if can you send me a PM (RTJ) in the Heaven - Gaming Resources forum link to another game to let me know, I'll add a link to that post in the RPOL Tutorials/Scripts thread.  :>

Honestly, I'm surprised we don't already have something like this.

In reply to Hunter (msg # 4):

Ah... I don't want to come off as rude, but if you come across something, for anywhere, which addresses screen-reader users, and is up to date, Facebooks is so far out of date its not even funny, odds are good some screen-reader user came along and informed them  all about it. Oh, sure there are guidelines out there for making the internet screen-reader friendly, but not a whole lot of people follow those rules.

As for this place, its not that hard to figure out a chunk of it, but it does take time, and it can be a little anxiety eliciting, but after a bit, you become a pro.  The administrator did a really good job, from where I'm sitting, making the place pretty easy, for the most part to move through from a screen-reader standpoint.

Also, and I do appreciate all the things the moderators do, really, they are volunteers, and I'm not sure, no offense mods, how aware they are of the assisted-technology scene. I've met a fair number of programmers, who didn't have a clue.  It doesn't bother me you understand.

You don't come across as rude.  I'm surprised mostly because we have an active community that tends to fill in the blanks, even when there's not a pressing "need" for it.

I think so many of us just take it for granted that we can see and figure out most/all of this...I know very few vision-impaired individuals, and to the best of my knowledge, none of them do anything like RPOL, so I've never even considered questions of how best to make content screen-reader friendly.  The questions that you bring up and issues you address are quite enlightening, and I, for one, am glad that you are so open about addressing the issues you face here.  I'm not intentionally ignorant of them...I've just never had any reason to consider them, and I feel like it broadens my perspectives on the world to have these things discussed for any and all to hear about.

Re:  A place to explain RPOL for screen-reader users?

Just in case I'm missing something.  So far I have explanations of:
  1. The order of the forums under 'links list"
  2. The differences between the older RPOL and the newer RPOL from a basic command stand point.
  3. Finding a game, entering a game from "Wanted players," versus "Brousing the games," because the process is different
  4. Finding and Listening to important pre-joining  requests, and then how to engage in such requests.
  5. Basic BB code, how to preview, etc.
  6. How to listen to Pre-joining request related questions, and how to respond to them, which is part of BB code, but not completely, so I've seperated it.
  7. Different methods for sending PMs
  8. R-Mails
  9. A few methods for finding images from those loaded onto RPOL, which is probably the single most difficult thing to do.
  10. The Dice roller for games that require it.

What am I missing?

I've not figured everything out for running a game yet, which is why I'm not running any games, and that info will be for something later, but still, part of my dullard's  brain is saying, 'you've forgotten something.'
