Re: Suggestions & Announcements VI

I think that's based on Wheel of Fortune, not Hangman.  Hangman may have even been before your time.

No, I was here for hangman.  The two are the same game, just with the added "wheel".  Personally, I'd prefer it Hangman style.

Re: Suggestions & Announcements VI

Manipulating Jeopardy was actually a tad intentional, but it was because those are the only questions I can think of, archive based Weekly, or Royal questions...    which actually still fit very well into the play of an ASWOT Jeopardy spin off.

As for the wheel, i've noticed the actual money aspect is not really in play, even though people roll the dice, vowels cost nothing and we don't count the cash in the end.  I'm pretty sure it's just as much like hangman as it would be without the dice...   Especially since there are some posts that don't even have a roll.  Don't know on that one, but I'd say the original hangman premise is better than the wheel

Don't much like wheel of fortune anyway >.>

I think we used to track the money and whoever had the most when the puzzle solved was the winner, as opposed to the person who guessed it.  That's the key difference from Hangman.

We also used to use the money (WOTS) for transactions such as buying people's votes for Best Post of the Month or Inc/Dec game, etc.

The Wheel money is not Wots, it's "dollars" and has no meaning outside of that thread.

Yoss:
The "vote out" rule for INCDEC seems too complicated.  I'd suggest that you just be allowed to remove a player when they haven't voted in at least X time.  X could be measured in days/weeks, or in posts.

Thoughts on this one?

Re: Suggestions & Announcements VI

regarding msg #37 by Yoss

"Vote out" seems a little hard with so few, I would say "Time till ejection" is more appropriate, though a week may be a bit harsh, though I realize that is the norm for rpol.  Perhaps thirty days till removal?

On an alternative note; Is it possible we could make a phrase association game?  My family tends to play word association until it becomes phrase association.  It's the same game really but instead of

1;night

2;day

It would be more along the lines of

2; The dog ate

1; The cat sat

2; The cow played

and so on...   Of course these are mind numbingly simple ways of playing it, but it was the quickest thing I could think of at the moment.  Our house tends to play for around an hour on this game before we get bored even with just three people playing.  I can only imagine how long the game would last on ASWOT...

Could do "<adjective> <noun>" associations
Your idea of "the <noun> <verb>" works too

Re: Suggestions & Announcements VI

It's not exactly like that either, it's just straight up any phrase any order in my mind.

Another example is actually what brought this idea to mind when me and athena were playing word association and I slipped out of words for a second

Athena; Gaia

GPT; The Thirteen Great Spirits

Athena; more than one word

GPT; Phrase

If Gaia had been 'the god gaia' and phrase had been phrase association it would have fit in with the thought process I have.

So then why not just call it Associations Game instead?  Let people do words, phrases, novels, whatever.

Re: Suggestions & Announcements VI

Sure...   That's what LuLu, Athena, and I do at home anyway :p  Just figured with already having a word association it would need to be something without just words (guess I still haven't learned assuming makes a rear out of u and me)

Re: Suggestions & Announcements VI

I was wondering have these two games ever appeared:

1) Scenes from a hat from Whose Line

2)A game from China.
For a group of say.... 6 players
Before starting the game, each player will be given a word. Only one of them will be given a word different from others, but similar.
E.g.
1PS3
2PS3
3PS3
4PS3
5XBOX360
6PS3

And then, each player will one by one make a statement on the word they receive.

E.g.
1You play games on it
2It's black... well, most of the time
3It's not the first of its kind
4It's outdated now
5It is famous for its shooter
6It is.... um...heavy

In this step, the 5 player objective is to identify the outsider(Named the "Spy") and the Spy need to try not to be detected.
Usually it is smarter to be vague on the statement as you couldn't know if you are the spy on the first round.

Afterward, the players will need to vote on kicking out one player. Ties are resolved by re-vote on the highest voted players.

If the Spy is kicked out, the other players wins the game.
If not, then the remaining player start again from the step where the each gives a statement.
The spy wins if after a vote, there is only him and another player in the game.

I suppose if we play in here, we would need a GM to distribute the words and to monitor the vote and see if the game is over.

Re: Suggestions & Announcements VI

Not only that but you would need to determine how many players there are at every start.  Then again we have what...   three, four max people who would even play.  We may need to resurrect a few more people before we start that game, but it's a good idea.  *starts smacking inactive people*

Thanks for submitting ideas!

We try to have all ASWOT games be "come and go as you please" kind of games, so the idea for "Find the Spy" would need some changes before it would work in our format.  We do have some hidden-information games here, but they all revolve around having only one player at a time that has hidden information that everyone else is working together to discover.

I'm not familiar with "Scenes From a Hat".  Could you fill me in?

I am aware of whose line is it anyway, at least to a degree, and I think a lot of it's concepts could be really fun to play...

Scene from a hat is played like this:

The host gives them a situation to set the scene.

Then each player give one to two short sentence that is funny base on the scene.

Re: Suggestions & Announcements VI

I would like to make a suggestion for a game similar to the share the love, but not quite. Thanksgiving inspired, I suppose you could say, although it would apply to everyday. "Giving Thanks" - "I'm thankful for..." and fill in the blank. The only requirement would be that it can't be sarcastic. :)
It's good to be thankful for the little things in life, and would be a great thread to have to post in for NO LIFE, especially if you were having a bad day, I think.
Please? ^^

Re: Suggestions & Announcements VI

I like that idea, especially since it's well known that listing what you are thankful for can actually raise your spirits.  It would go towards not only having another game worth it's weight, but also keeping spirits high in the players around ASWOT.
