Re: PROSPECTIVE PLAYERS

For those just joining us, you can have your character start in any of the three rooms you want:

The Workshop, where the warscrubber currently is.

The Reactor Room, where there are reactors that might not take kindly to being fired upon unless you want to take a Chernobyl bubble bath

And the storage room, where Ginger ran to and where there are various boxes of things which will take you a bit of time to go to.

Re: PROSPECTIVE PLAYERS

I am going out of town now until Tuesday.  I will be at a cabin with no cell phone or internet or anything, so I will be incommunicado until then.

Re: PROSPECTIVE PLAYERS

I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop outta this one, guys... I let the story leave me behind. I'd like to be able to chill OOC and lurk though... Maybe give neutral source opinions. You can change my character name to Chuck Norris.

Edit: Can't type "neutral" apparently...

Okay, that's fine.  We're almost through.  This final chase is one of the final encounters...maybe the last if they get you first.

Sorry, I've been negligent on this due to crazy real life busyness.  I'm going to jump back in ASAP, probably today or tomorrow.  Thanks for your patience.

Re: PROSPECTIVE PLAYERS

I will be giving a seminar in Washington on Tuesday and Thursday and will not be posting (but I will, however, be given a personal tour of the Wizards of the Coast offices!)

I would like to fit one or two more rounds in before then, if possible.

Re: PROSPECTIVE PLAYERS

quote:
REPEAT OF RULE:
(Focusing on getting ahead means you can choose to roll against the skill the guide did not choose, or against a narrow specialty if you show it applies.  If you succeed, you add your success margin to your maneuver roll.  If you fail, you don't add anything.)

So if I'm flying and shooting, do I roll three times?
1) maneuver roll (basic d20 roll against no skill, higher is better)
2) relevant skill roll for the guide's choice
3) skill roll for shooting

??
I don't understand, so I'm probably doing it wrong.

Re: PROSPECTIVE PLAYERS

I though if you were in the lead, you only could make the fly roll and your group guidance roll, forfeiting your standard action for that one. I could be wrong but, such is the fun of Paranoia!

Re: PROSPECTIVE PLAYERS

If you are in the lead, you don't need to use the "catch up" action and you would just be attacking or using a mutation.

If you are not in the lead, you can use "catch up" as your action.  Then you can roll again against the opposite skill chosen by the leader and add whatever you make the roll by to the roll for the initial maneuver.

The "maneuver" roll IS the roll against the skill chosen by the guide.  (For the first move, it wasn't because there was no leader/action, but for the rest that roll is the maneuver roll.)

So for "movement," you roll once or twice.  You roll once for your "maneuver" roll, which is a roll against whatever the guide chose.  If your action is to catch up, then you roll a second time to help your score on the maneuver roll.

If you choose to attack instead, then you roll for that instead of to "catch up."

OOC:  You can make all rolls yourself, and even tell me in the private line by what margin you made the roll, and you can also add your PP points to the roll (but let me know all details).  You just can't post the actual "success" or "failure" of the roll because PP points might apply to change whether you actually succeeded or failed...and also the margin of failure can create other..."unexpected"...effects that the GM posts.

So ideally, I might see something like this:

<private to GM Computer Heath> 16:41, Today: Ginger rolled 8 using 1d20. Maneuver roll against violence.
Violence score: 7.
Margin: 1 + 5 PP points as previously posted= 6

Today: Ginger rolled 1 using 1d20. Action: Get ahead.
Hardware score: 10.
Margin: 9.

Total margin for maneuver roll: 15!>

If you have 0 or less margin on the get ahead roll, it stays at 0 (neither helping nor hurting you).

Prior to this, you would have done a separate post listing however you are spending PP.

Wait, how is the Violence roll a success?  Is it lower is better or higher is better?

Re: PROSPECTIVE PLAYERS

Since you want your skill to be as high as possible, the lower roll is the better roll when rolling against skills.  (Granted, sometimes, rolling against each other makes a high number better...I'm trying to work out that kink.)

I.e., a roll of your skill level or lower is a success.

Friend Citizen, I do hope you are not trying to point out that the Computer has made any errors mistakes glitches.

OOC: Actually, I might have made a mistake here or there on this point, as I'm used to the high roll wins d20 system.

You don't have to.  But the more information you give to the Computer, the less chance the Computer has of making a mistake glitch.

I'm slow myself anyway.  October is the craziest month at our firm, since it's the last billing month in our year, meaning long days (and nights).
