So, a halfling ranger, who hunts all kinds of monsters - just to turn them in to food. I would see him traveling with a wagon or cart with a built-in kitchen, marquee, foldable table and benches, and of course, a load of other ingredients and drinks. Party catches a giant toad - frog flambe. Party kills a displacer beast - displacer stew. Party kills a dragon - dragon steaks. His main weapons are a frying pan, a hand-axe and a sling.

D&D 3.5e or Pathfinder.

Let’s cook something up, shall we?

Love it. Catch a troll - unlimited source of meat for kebabs. Scrape some off, replaced soon due to regeneration quickly. Just don't cook it before you've cut it. Not sure who would eat them, though.
Get a mating pair of egg laying monsters - no need to serve chicken ever again!!

What level you thinking of?? I'd suggest starting at a decent level so larger, more interesting and unique monsters could be targeted (level 5 or 6, depending on party size). Halfling cooks, elf wizard is an alchemist and removes (inedible) organs for research and potions, the rogue creates and uses poisons from various venomous creates and the fighter wants trophies.

Would you want a monster of the week style or an attempt at a cohesive campaign?? Definitely interested, both as player and potentially as a GM if nobody else comes forward.

If this becomes a Pathfinder game, I would totally be interested in playing a crafter looking for exotic skins/feathers/bones to create interesting clothes and equipment.

Tastes like chicken, they say.

Now, I think, starting small would work best. Depending on what the DM comes up with, lvl 1-4(ish) perhaps. I’d see my halfling doing adventuring on the side and always being on the lookout for new recipes. No intelligent humanoids as ingredients, though, so you would not get Kobold Kebab. Wand of Gentle Repose or someone able to cast it would be pretty useful, or a magic item that keeps anything placed in to it refridgerated.

Would you guys be interested in playing this in a kingmaker game? you could travel around and 'solve the local monster problems' while also 'satisfying your own cuisine curiosity' at the same time.

im starting a pathfinder game for this and just cause its kingmaker doesnt mean you cant just play a regular yo joe bro or a crew of them.

Re: A character concept I want to try out - solo or in a group

nah, old school, DnD 3.5. sounds kind of like the witcher comes to forgotten realms. set it up as an open group without a requirement for one of each of the so called essentials. party could develop contacts and trade for things like potions if they needed to. it would be nice to have a party that didn't follow the the rules of DnD
1. always have a cleric, a wizard, a fighter, and a thief
2. supporting characters should always be a sorcerer, a monk, and a paladin
3. all characters should be specifically built for tank, heal, damage, range, detection, blah, blah, blah.

I have no problem with running game where the characters had a real interest in something other being 'professional treasure seeking murder hobos'. I think a group of characters that all had a vested interest in hunting to provide resources to fuel their profession would be a neat change.

In reply to JAM2019 (msg # 7):

Could see an Eberron Blackdog fitting into this concept real well. If your cool with that I'd be down. And Blackdogs are basically halflings with some spell likes at the cost of a feat or three that dispense "justice" via food and drink among other things.

I am open to suggestions. 3.5 or Pathfinder, either one would work though I have more experience on 3.5. Kingmaker, though - it might not really fit the character.

LOL, I like your character concept, mediiic !

So you're a Hobbit with a flair for exotic cuisine who likes to harvest his food products directly?  Seems like a lot of fun.

I only joined RPOL about a month ago.  I'm 20 (just turned) so I think I'm not authorized to start an Adult game.

I'd consider running you in a semi solo game.  Only 2 systems I've looked at are D&D5E and GURPS 4E.

If either of these are appealing to you, and you haven't yet found a game, I'd be happy to chat with you about starting one.

Re: A character concept I want to try out - solo or in a group

Much prefer GURPS 3rd edition myself. Not so much clutter.

You could also use Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, stick with 1st or 2nd edition. The careers and setting are completely adaptable your concept. So, are the races.

I'n not really up on current D&D, I haven't played or ran anything since 3.5. Including Pathfinder. Pathifinder blew up and spawned so much stuff that it is kind of like old school GURPS.
