MERCHANT'S LANDING

Tall and strong Stardancer helped quite easily repair and construct walls.  A few times relieving tired teams of horses to pull a load of large and strong timbers, even at going so far as to hoist a large timber brace well over her head to place it securely for the folk there.  "This should hold for quite a while.  As thick as it is it would not break easily." she smiled then took a swig of fresh water.  There was another, this one even larger.  "Orlin?  How is your strength?  I am sure between the two of us this very large beam can be hoisted up and into place,  Perhaps with a little help from a block and tackle" knowing she could lift it is easy, but it was rather bulky that for safety should be lifted by atleast 2 strong beings.

Jason watched in awe as Stardancer worked. He had done a great job of avoiding breaking a sweat, but he wasn’t allergic to hard work, he just worked smarter. No sense doing the heavy lifting when there were people much stronger than he.

Myranda’s chuckle caught his attention.

I wondered how ling it would take before you got around to introductions.

With the Sister's grace and your partcipation I've netted a wager from the Roller.

He helps hoist the timbers with the efficiencly of one who has helped build many a log cabin.  He glances to the incoming ridders, "I think we should be ready to aid any problems after this task.  Watch your footing if we have to run through this mess of tripping hazards."

The staff seems to be conveniently resting against the wall nearby.  "Real charmer isn't he." it says sarcastically.

Jason bowed just slightly, as his back would allow, and he decided it best to let Myranda be. He tried his hardest not to say something he would regret, and so he turned without a word.

He couldn’t keep his mouth shut though, “Y’know, not everyone is worth knowing. Maybe I just latch on to you. May I help?”

Whether or not she wanted his company, he was not done employing methods to keep from the back breaking labor.

MERCHANT'S LANDING

Kree stood  Just a Bit  BAck to   Brightleaf  and   Hammerhilt, this was thier show...for now.

The  Riders   came up with a Captain with a  Horsehair  Plume  on his helmet
.  I need  two thing s   from you.. I need to know what the meaning of this  fortification is.. and I have  Come for Captain  Quickshadow

Kree chuckled  at this  as he   stood  behind the others.

..This  our , our lands.. we will build  what  we please... but to answer your   question, we  are protecting  the New   Merchant's  landing  from the Lather  River...

As  For the Captain.. he will not be going with you...

..Ye Humans are from Tou?.. Mind yer business.. you never had  much truck with  us   before.. we dunna need  ya  here  now..

..Fortifications  are not permitted  on  Empire  soil with out an OK from the Crown...

Kree  stepped up,..good thing this isn't   Empire  Soil, It  is Timber spoil fro   50  miles  outside the   further most tree...As  for me goign to  Ironmound.. I told your  Lacky   I will  report, after My Mission is done..now?... If you wish to make an issue of that,  I will Gladly  whittle  away  your people.. we can use more horses...

..you would risk  war  with the Crown, over some  sell sword Mission...

i'm not   risking a  Thing?.. You'll all be dead, You will have tresspassed  on   Timber  Lands.. and threatened Us... I If you have any doubt  about my  word, I should kill you know , at the Insult

The Captain  looked  down from His    Horse .. You  thing  some    workmen  and such could defeat a squardon of Tou Calvary ?

..I think  some old  goblins  with slingshot s  could   take you?.. My Father was there, when Tou tried to help the Empire  take our  trees.. How many Tou  Horse men made it back that day? One young one..a standard bearer, that the Good   dwarves  seen fit to send  back with a message... be Gone.. or be  dead..

The Horseman  loked  at the Elf.. neither or  the  leaders  seemed to take issue  of what he  said...

Brightleaf  raised    One  arm, and  dropped it.. a single  arrow  came   from the grasslands     and landed at the foot  of   the     rider to the  left...

wardens in the trees.. their arrow s  carry very far... and Human Longbow men, in the grasses.... dwarven crossbow  men scattered about..

..and  a Unit of arrows .. so?.. I think its   time you left...do not  return, unless  you have a flag of  truce.. or you are escorting  Merchants..but i should warn you.. we will  barter  with our customers, before   we  see what goods   they have to sell..or  want to by.... We  don't  forget how Tou  has treated us.. it would be good if you did not  either..

..we go then.. and I will send  a rider to the Crown...

..you  do that?..  and I will tell them how your  people dared to  cross on to our lands  without leave.. should be interesting, don't you think?

..You and I  will meet on the field of Honor, in Ironmound.. Quickshadow....

..and who is it, that i am going to kill?

..I am Captain Flagrand..or the House.,..

..I do not care  about  some   pumped up  House... Just make sure you are in the  Palace  when we  arrive... and   we'll  finish this  in the training  fields..well.. I will finish it..

The riders  turned   and rode  hard to thier Camp..

Shadow looked ta  Greenleaf.....how many archers..

Brightleaf  smiled,..Six  wardens   high in the trees.. 4 Longbow men.. and   2  dwarves...

Kree laughed, Send   two   runners... one to   Razorhawk Village , one  to  Timberhome.. Tell them   to   set archers   and maybe  send  some  more to help  guard the Settlement..

The walked  back to the  walls   Kree put his   bow  by his armor and Pack, and  went back to work

MERCHANT'S LANDING

Myranda did a quick head count of the Construction team, she determined that she'd need additional help with the Banquet. She Decided this would be effectively an inaugural meal so it should include the whole settlement. Master Penny when you've finished with that table could you ask the rollers to join me, then ask Captain Shadow to invite the Settlement to join us in the meal.

Or perhaps not. There was a difference between a true Heroes' Feast and just creating food.

Myrand finished focusing a glow covered the table she stood beside. Bathing it and her with a faint hews first it was Green edged with Silver, followed by Dark Blue edged Yellow then Dark Purple edged with Red. The glow abated leaving in its wake five dishes, of varying type, each sufficient to feed several people. Noticing Luthien approaching Myranda smiled Ah Sir Luthien. I'd be grateful if you can assist me with this task. I've surveyed the folk who'll be setting up here there's about 350. I thought this would be an ideal time to celebrate its founding with a Feast if you and Havslane can help, by petitioning Tra and Eta for their bounty we'll be able to cater for this event.

I do not thing the ship route   would be possible, as they would have to  sail the whole way  down, or the whole way up The Storm  River.. then travel The  later.. both ways  would take   then   across the coasts  and the    Southern  end  is  the  lands  and waters  for the Red Elves...

..should they  send   an army?.. they would loose.   There are more people in the Timber, then they realize . And  we  would have aid  from the High Peak Dwarves  and the trace wood  elves.... If they ask Ironmound  for aid?.. The Crown would have to weigh  one city , against the rest of thier  LAnds... Trok?  would side  with  the Trace Elves..The   Ironwood  ekevs may come to thier aid, but they would have to content  with the People of the  Firman's Chain... those  people have been  Aided  By the High Peak  Dwarves  and  The Timber, where   Tou has never sent  folk to aid them..Bowshot  would go where the Crown tells them to..though i have  an Idea  that most of those  in Bowshot   would  lean towards  The Arrows, and thus...   Kree  from his   seat on a barrel, Nibbled  on  some  fowl , chicken?..taste like chicken..but..most  things  do.

..The Mission... is not a standard   Crimson Arrow  Mission... This  is  a task,   for  the   Company as a whole... one that started  Long before  most of you   joined us... and  continued,  when some of us  left  or  died...

We would have  to As k Reedrick...  as  his  dock boy gathers  folks   as they come into Ironmound off the  docks...We are not the only ones  to Recruit  That way..Fetcher , is the LAd's  Name  he has  mixed  results... some folk  turn out to be grand  Arrows. some  die  or leave , very shortly as  we  take Missions  and move through these lands.

So?.. I would  say there  may be  20   Units of Arrows... perhaps...4 of them , Crimson Arrows.... The Trace Wood  sends  , what they  think  are good folk  for  the  Company... whether it be  Native Trace Wood   Elves  or Humans  and other such  race who have  settled there...at any rate...

He take s a swing of  his  wine, and   motions  with his  Mug to a  woman who is  both , helping with the serving, and eating at the same time..Two  kids   sit  By  Kree on the Ground as they eat.. staring up at the elf , hanging on every word.

..we had  some  losses..more losses  then occurs  to a Mercenary Company... and strange  , to the fact, that most were  ambushed... Arrows  do not get Ambushed... I had  an idea of  whom  the turncoats might have  been...but the  fact that an Unit of  Arrows were Missing..and  The Timber would  not  send  anyone to find  them... we  went on our own..... Which, is where    we Met you..and the strange Bird  Rider.....As you see?.. Arrows  from  other  Areas,  do not  always Measure Up to The  Crimson Arrows.

.. we  found    the remains  of  the Missing Arrow   unit.. there were  two   , who were alive... one  died  in the  fighting after   we went  down into the Caverns.. the  Female  Mageling, you have met... The Sages  and  Healers  ssay , she will be a long time  ain healing..

,,but , we have   found what  we need to find..and  we will be going into the Trace  Wood to fine  and Kill the traitors...if they are very  Lucky, and Both sisters   kiss them on the mouth.. they will die in battle .. if  we capture  them.. their  deaths  will be as  bad  as and as Long as  any slavers.

MERCHANT'S LANDING

Workign continued a small sail boat had  docked  at the   wharf.. 10 humans on it  with a load  of  12  Serpents.

They   anchored the  ship and came inland  with their  catch..  when they made it to the  'town'.  The  leader of the group said,..I'm the  captain of   that wee    sloop  at your  wharf.... Elves of the Grotto says  you where building a new settlement.. trade  and such  for the Timber  and   folks   on this  side of the  Lands of Ironmound?.. Well I sent me brothers to the  Coast..  word is gonna travel fast. And if ye  hold true , as your people int he past?... yer gonna  get  good Business..Some say.. The Devil of the Lather  river  was burnt in her bed!..and it were folk from  The Timber that did it.... that's enough, by itself  for praise.... But.. we came  today, with this catch.. as a   good will fer   the coast   folk and  The Timber... and the allies  in between

Hammerhilt  stepped  forward  and  shook the man's  hand,we thankee  for this..but  would not be fittin' to steal yer  whole catch... We'll  pay full market for  6 of them.. the  other  6.. we  will have for   a feast this night  fer  you to  enjoy with us...

Teh Captain   Grinned  and said  ..Done!.. he   men  went  about  to   cut the    serpents  for  cooking, while   HammerHilt    counted out the Coin

Kree     sat on the   wall his  tunic off in the sun, but his  eyes    went from the     fisherfolk, to the     raiders who  would pop and watch  for a Bit....at Kree's  order.. two  falcons were brought   down through the  coruse of the day.. both had the lashings  on thier    claws   of hunting   birds... MERCHANT'S LANDING

The Midday  mal was  being prepared .. the smells of     Cooked  serpent as well as    savory serpent stew   filled the air,  as did the Smell    'steaks' of the Beasts   were cut  abd breaded as well..and there  were some  Boar beat   for those who  did not like serpent meat..but  most folks never  turned down the    'River  Treat'  tasted  great..but poor folks who caught the beasts.. would sell it , rather then eat it... Rich folk, who paid  far too much for the creatures... never had the  guts to try to  fish for themselves....

Though, truth be told, young   rich lords   would pack up a sloop  sail  The Storm and  have thie r bailed  Lines  tossed  in while the  'helped ' haul in thier catch... but  more often then not... the  ship would  never come back, with the same   amount of   'fisherman' it left with.

From  the  west most tower...  a Guard  Yelled " TOU RIDER"....

Kree waved off the 'Elders' and went to  see who  was  coming this time...he purposefully    got   four pieces of Bread, and   put a slice of Breaded  serent on  two..added some of the  sauce the women had  made, and walked out  to meet the  Rider.., he  still had his tunic off, but shouldered his  bow  and quiver, his Blade buckled on as he  Hopped  down the wall to  meet the rider.

The   Rider  was a Young woman in  a guilded  chest playe.. the  fringe of  red   Fur on the  top of her helmet marked her  as  an  UnderCAptain.. she  Pulled up.

Taking  a bite of the     sandwich m he offered the other up to her.

She looked shocked   and  confused  as she reached   down to take it.....Thank you...I...

Kree   waved her  down from the Horse,.. we   managed to get 12  serpents..nice ones  around 6-7  feet long.. no reason   not  to sjare  since  you rode  all this way?.  Seeing how its  almost Highsun?  Your captain  has  some grand  meal in his   tent while  his  offieer   clean his rear with their Tongues...

She Dropped down  taking  a bite of the sandwich... she  nodded  at the taste  and   wipe  some  sauce  from her lips.

Women  folk made that sauce...  follow me to the  wall and we  will get you some drink...

As they  walked, she  took another   bite, noting the archer  at the top of the  tower with a nocked arrow,

..they will not shoot, unless they think you threaten me?... and? Let us be fair about this... had you  meant have, you would be dead now anyway... I wager to say  i have killed  more people they you are...days old!

he shouted to the others,..Cold wine, Please! he turned to her  when they stopped  by the     palisades .. the  stone work behind them was evident...now?..why have the scum sent you?

taking another  bite  , she frowned  as she tried to  move the   bit around so she  could take....The  Captain wants to  know if you intend to  come to  Tou...

..then he is  as  foolish, as he is a coward... I stated, we have a Mission to complete... if needs be  , he may go to Ironmound and  ask what that  means to a Merc Company.... when we  finish..we will report to the Emperor  himself... If the CAptain  and his masters   are   so worried  about me?  they can see me there......

you wil, upo  your return, make certain that you tell your 'captain'... that  Merchant's Landing, is   part of  The Black Timber..thus..nay  attack on  Mercahnt's Landing will be considered as an attack on The Timber..... Unlike  humans?  We  will not send a mean wordered paracment.. we  will send  shaft and sword to make sure those  who are responsible , pay the highest price.... If there is a   Noble in the Captain's  tent.. Tell  them, Quickshadow  says, they best work on new tade  routes...and/or..prepare to pay the highest  prices...for the worst of our  Goods.... it has  been near 100 eyars , of my people  being trwated thus.... now..the blade is swinging back the other  direction.

She Looked at him, and only  saw stern eyes  lookign up at her, and then she  kicked the sides of the horse to sent  it   into a Gallop.

MERCHANT'S LANDING

The  Sun, creeping  down ward to the South east...the  arms of  The Black Timber reaching up to pull her in...

The Elders  called the  women and   'non'working' children to begin to cook.. Wagons from the   Timber  were    exiting the tress... Combined caravan van from Timber Home, Razorhawk Village  and   settled   settlements.

One thing  that cause s  some surprise, as well as    chuckles, 10 Goblin archers marched  with them... wearing   Green and Brown  leather  as  the Wardens do..

They would be the Goblin  Village's  contribution  to The  Merchant Landing  Defense

The elders  Met the merchants, and  walked  with them, Right  now  the  Settlement  had it   back opened to  the  Forest. but teh Flanks  and   'front' were almost  all complete.

The    western  wall  and Its  Flank was near 15 feet high...Wooden palisades  with   River  Stone  wall behind...  three  towers on the west side had  rooves …

Kree  Whistled  for the Arrows, to come on in  to were thier Belongings lay.. HammerHilt  arrived as the  settled   down to  drink  some  wine or  water,... Kree had  started  a  small fire  to    make Cafee.

..YOur  People  did  a right   fine  Job..  The  High peak dwarves  will be here, sometime tomorrow..  They'll pick up the  slack when you folks  leave...

Kree   hand  His  Tunic  off, hanging on a  Peg of  a pole used   for  the  Tents,..Aye...  we  wanted to help where we could..... In the Morning  we  will be leaving  for  The Landing  itself.. to meet the ships  who will take us  to the Trace wood ...

Well.. I thankee all for yer help.. put us a good  2  days  ahead, say the least....and   having the  wall facing Tou ready, makes   me  feel a bit better..... We'll ring the gong when the   food is ready...

..Thanks you...and?  I saw  those Goblins coming  in... Yo let them loose  in the grasslands  as scouts?... you might  never have to  worried about    Slavers or Tou troopers..

The Dwarf  grinned , slapped Kree's  back and  Moved on...

Ivy looked up  from  his   wine,..now?.. I know that had  to have hurt!

..aye?.. But   cannot show   pain to the    locals here?.. They think the Arrows   are  God like!

If Thy opinion of the discourse be as Kree hath suggested, being others see us as gods; such be both erroneous anst pitiful. To perpetuate such a fallacy be foolishness. Master Orlin hath disregarded the point also, seeking to divert it from that point, to how others worship. The fact that others worship is, be to a degree ath he hath suggested personal, based upon what each hath personally learnt or hath been taught by the Divine.

He was  working on others  when  Kree  came. 'eh  Captain.. you doin' a walk around?

..Aye, More or less... we're leaving   in the morning for the LAnding Itself... how much   for you  Arrows?

aw..co'or.. 2  silvers a Bundle.. another  5   coppers if ye wants them painted..But  fer you.. 1 silver ?

..Tell you what?... I'll take a Bundle... he hands  him 2  silvers.....Paint them Black.... he hands him another Silver...You have them ready for  when I leave , I'll add to that coin...

..we'll work right on it...we will.. thankee  Captain.. but..what if they aren't ready?

..then you keep  the coin I gave you... and  I will pick  them up, next time i pass this way...

..Roight!.. we'll do our Best.. won't   we  Kids?

the  Girl was  already missing the   pain, and the  Boy was  setting up   brushes.....they's  good  Kids  Captain.. gonna out  do my work, when they get my age.... There mum, don't passed  as we traveled from Ironmound..came all the   way from  Mouri, we did....heard they can use    fletchers out here.. they weren't  wrong...

With a Clap on the  fellow's  back.. kree   stopped Long enough  for  toss them each  2 coppers ,..that is your own... for  making sure  my arrows are done..

He  winked at the Fletcher  who  smiled.. the man went to  pick up the ebst bundle he hand  and  began to  set them up on a little notched  table the  Boy used to paint.

MERCHANT'S LANDING

...........  Morning....

After  washing up, and the group grabbing   some hot  stirabout from the cook fires..Kree  began to   buckle   his   belt on, then his  cloak,  with his pack over  top.  along with his  quiver.

The  two elders  came over.......hope yer  travels  are good, Capt'm... and ye  find  those you seek....

..They won't  know we are coming  until we  reach the Trace Wood... then it  will be  too late....

..we look forward  for your  Next Visit.... and Thank you for  the chance  we have  given The Timber....

his hand  waved to his people,..Thank them.... they  did  as much, if   not more then I.... and its  well past the time, The Timber  unshackled itself  from Tou and  the restrictions  they  made on our trade...And should   any Tou Envoys seek me out?... tell them to meet us in Ironmound about   2  ten-days from  now....

He pulled his  Hood  up against the Morning chill, he stopped  by the   fletcher ,,  giving them  5  Gold , by way of a  bonus  for having the arrows  ready.

Then.. a High pitched  Whistle, and waved his   folks  for the trek on the .. bark/and gravel road  the women and  children  who weren't  skilled workers  had  'paved'.

..Everyone, grab a bucket, so we can get  dump  some   rock chips    down the road  for them...

about  3  miles  down the road, is where the  'paving' ended...  Kree would  set his   2  buckets down  for those  at the  end of the road.. , the 'windfall' of the extra  buckets  pleased those who   camped  out  to work  the road  as they  extended  towards  the landing

MERCHANT'S LANDING

The   hours  it took to reach the landing itself, was  reasonably comfortable.. a slight  breeze  from the west, cased the   warmer air from the  east away.. clouds  be    forming, there   would be a  storm this night.

Three  wharves have been made thus  far, extending   about  50 yards  into the  river. some children fished off the end of the wharves , seems like   they were having   good luck.

Like   The town .. there  were palisades up.. with River stone being stacked and Mortared behind    it... like the town... people were taking bark chips and  stone  chips to   help p[ave the road to the town some  older   children who were too big for   chipping  and too small for building  where  gathered   , plate sized   river  stones.. setting them in place, thus extending the road a bit faster.

Kree announced,.. out  ships should be   in today, depending on the weather.. once they are  ready to  leave.. we will sail Up river with them.

there  were  three Buildings of  stone  set up... one  was a  Military  HQ of sorts.. the other two were small  inns.. a bigger   Inn was being Built, the owners  were serving food  and drink from Under canvas with    thatched  walls  for   protection.

Gord   Bronzefist   walked   down the   gangway  to the    fellow who was in charge of loading and  Unloading.

A rider  was sent to   the   'town', so more wagons  could be brought over.

Kree walked over to the   dock and greeted  Bronzefist as he   walked  down the next ramp to the  ground.

Hail, Captain.... its  nice to see a new   place of Business opening up... Veegrhouss is   still at the Plains  Elves     landing,  dropping off  goods  there, and Picking some Up?  They will Join us when  we sail back down River to  The Trace LAnding...

we can leave   as soon as  , what goods  that are going out, is ready... maybe   Tomorrow  night?

Sounds Good.. what is the news  of  Mok?

we all just sail past fer now?  But them  Sandfolk.. there's a  civil war in there.. them Meerchant Lords   made alot of people suffer, so's they could be rich... now   they are paying fer it... That  Ship ye  burned... its  Lost fer Good,  burned to the  water  line, Insides  burned outwards   until  the water  poured in, the  quay it  rested in is now  blocked, they'd  almost have to get Merfolk to help them, and they don't like fresh water all that much.

MERCHANT'S LANDING

Star followed onto the ship.  Being careful not to slip on the ramp.  "Atleast I am not being slung aboard" she smiled.

MERCHANT'S LANDING

Braonzefist walks  up on the Deck, the last of the Ironwood    stored   and wrapped .

The  gang plant was  dropped , the  dock  workers  setting it  up for the next time, the second shipo  was   about half  loaded.

The Dwarf looked  happy,we're gettin' a  schedule of  sorts.... The ship at the Plains Elves  grotto, is gonna  come here.. by the  time they unload  and load, the 2nd ship will be   stopping by the plains elves,  they'll be  gittin' more goods  and  they'll sail  up  to meet  us  at the trace wood  landing, across from Mok... once  we see what  the trace wood  folks who to be shipped, to want to by.. we'll head fer the coast... sell off  all our goods or deliver them , then laod up there, and start all over again..gonna be making good  coin,.,, we'll  sign up  some good   navel archers  and such.... ye  and  yer  group shoudl join us!

Kree  smiled   ,..lots of   work out there  for Arrows..., but if  any  want to stay with you?   I won't stop them.

MERCHANT'S LANDING

Orlin lends Stardancer a stabilizing hand.  At Kree's comment he turns his head and snorts.  "I have wandered far from home to be in this unit.  Whatever God, Goddess, or collaboration of these that has guided my steps has brought me thus far an taught me and my charge much.  I would not be thanking them to step off the path.  My odd past has a purpose to serve and I can feel it lies with the crimson arrows.  My fate is my own, but my faith will lie with the road before me."

His staff laughs and says something unintelligible "Thanks,"  Orlin says dryly "I'm glad you liked it"

MERCHANT'S LANDING

as the ships sailed   Northward, the third  ship of the  squadron was sailing  down to Merchant's landing...

The look out   called down saying there  were merchant wagons comign  from Tou towards  Merchants Landing.. he could see the dust from the wagons as they rolled.

Kree frowned at this,I hope the Wardens see them as well, and  are ready for anything  that might resemble  the attack made on our  Village, so long ago....

Bronzefist  nodded  and waved to the other CAptain as the ships  past each other , crew  shouting   good natured insults  and such across the  water..

He pointed up river,we'll be  sailin' through the night again... we'll be at the  Trace Wood  LAnding about  Highsun...an' ye'll be able to see what Mok looks like now, at elast from the river.

MERCHANT'S LANDING

In reply to river (msg # 216):

Niphre watched the squadrons go down to Merchant's Landing, and she could see the dust of the wagons. It was a interesting journey, this journey. So many sights, and so many people that she had met.
