Detroit aka Motor City aka Aresville. Nobody expects a corpo enclave to have a red hot runner scene but the shadows cast by Ares HQ are long and deep in Detroit. Underneath the corporate and UCAS propaganda there are still deals to be made, bodies to be dropped, tech to be lifted and nuyen to be made.
Motor City Madness is a 5th Edition Shadowrun game designed for both solo and small team play. Instead of large elaborate plotlines it will focus on smaller, quicker jobs and opportunities as well as focusing heavily on "life in Shadowrun". Players will be surrounded by a cast of NPCs, encouraged to set their own objectives and mission parameters, and get the chance to feel what life in shadows of Ares is all about.
Themes to be explored in this game are:
- Dystopia vs. Utopia - the disparity between the utopia vision presented in all the travel brochures compared to the cruel realities of being an outcast in the shadows even in one of UCAS least dangerous.
- Opportunity vs. Danger - because you can see past the propaganda you realize there are opportunities for credits all around however if you make Ares mad they can drop the hammer on you in ways that would be unthinkable in other cities like Seattle so running in the shadows requires much more guile and subtlety than in wilder cities.
- Easy Come, Easy Go - in this game players will be barely scraping by. Even after a big score somehow the money always ends up running dry, the bills pile up and the party ends. PCs should be hungry for any job thrown their way and often walking away, even from the real drek jobs, just isn't in the cards. It's about making the best of a bad situation, not being a spoiled princess only picking up milk runs.
