The Godfall - A Godbound Story

In a land of rolling hills, deep and shadowed forests, frost-rimed mountain peeks, and rolling dunes of sand, adventure lays around every corner. Sellswords train their skill at arms, ready to trade their blade for coin or gamble their lives on another delve into a dark dungeon in search of long-buried loot. Mages study the secrets or the arcane, dedicating themselves to exacting masters in their distant towers or gathering in their institutions of learning. All manner of rogues and brigands find clever ways of separating the common people from their coin, whether with quick fingers in a crowded market or on the road at the end of a sword. In the temples, priests and apostles pray desperately to distant gods, and some evince miraculous powers, evidence of their patron's favor. All across the land, desperate rulers treat with these powerful heroes to secure their kingdoms from threats within and without. Monsters lurk in the wilds, terrorizing small villages while dark sorcerers plot within their hidden lairs, and deep beneath the earth, the undead stir in their long-sealed crypts.

The gods had failed their followers. As the one above all looked upon the pantheons and their petty squabbling, their mad schemes for power and dominion, their profound lack of empathy for the mortals who looked to them for guidance . . . they could do not but shake their head. If the gods would squander their divinity so, they would be made to earn it. Sitting upon the throne, the mighty one cast the wheels of the heavens into motion and the machinery of creation turned. That night, across the land, the gods fell like stars, blazing across the darkened sky. Now mortal, many did not survive, and their powers found their way into the hands of worthy mortals. Others awoke in tact, but greatly reduced. All looked up in horror as The One appeared in the sky, visible to their eyes only. The decree was simple. Gather together mortal followers, earning worship through great deeds. Only when they had proven themselves worthy of the power they commanded would the gates of heaven be opened to them once more.

The gods now walk the world, and it will quake at their passing.

Thanks for taking interest in The Godfall! My goal is to get some players interested in collaborating to create our own "generic d&d world" to then unleash. Ever wanted to take over the Zhentarim (or an equivalent knock-off)? Battle Elminster in a wizard duel? Wrest Undermountain from Halaster's hands and make its trove of magical secrets your own? This is the game for you.
