Journeying near South Wood?

Hi folks,

I’m seeking (up to three) more players for a D&D 5e game (not dissimilar to a West Marches campaign in some respects) called Perils of South Wood.

Here’s the game link.

Story/Hook
Marlock, a curious mage living as a hermit on the eaves of South Wood near Merrywater, came upon an evil draconic artefact in his studies. Whilst attempting to purify the artefact, he accidentally released its evil (via another plane of existence) across the whole of the forest. Now our heroes fight to keep back the evil and free the wood from its contamination.

Faerun setting: Delimibyr Vale, near Loudwater.
Events not part of the D&D canon.

About the game
In the previous campaign, Marlock’s Tower, Guwenomar, a half-elf paladin, freed Marlock after his tower had been overrun by kobolds. Now Guwenomar travels the forest fighting to keep back the evil that has been released.

We ran that first campaign as a solo adventure (one player, one DM) and had lots of fun. Now we’ve started up this one and are looking to bring in a few others on the fun too :)

Core rules i.e. what’s in the Player’s Manual and Dungeon Master’s Guide, plus I’ve also got Tasha’s Cauldron so I’ll happily stretch to that. Anything else you’ll need to ask first!

About me
I’d still call myself relatively new to this whole caboodle, having started on RPOL Summer 2022 and with D&D as a whole about a year before that.

Having said that, I’ve learnt a great deal and the games that I’ve started have generally lasted well. The parallel copy of this tale (which is more story-focused) began in June 2022 and is still going strong to this day. I enjoy telling out a homebrew story. I love it when players do something unexpected to solve a challenge.

About you
Consistency of posting is a key factor. This adventure has existed solo for some time and I’ve enjoyed the speed and flexibility that has provided. A posting rate of once every 48 hours or so is good, with once per day during combat preferred. If you’re only able to check-in around once a week, this probably isn’t the best fit for you.

Story and action are both important elements. Obviously with a West Marches style the needle nudges slightly towards action (which is absolutely fine), but there’s still a story and a setting to explore here too.

Apart from that, just the ability to get along with others playing a game and having fun :) Newcomers are welcome and if you need an occasional helping hand just ask, no problem. We’ll be keeping by the 5E rules as I understand them. I’m not adverse to being corrected and learning something new when I get it wrong, so experts are also very welcome (with the understanding that newcomers are equally welcome at the "table").

Oh, and it's general rating (all ages) - so keep in mind that their might be younger players (keep it clean).

About your character
The current PC who completed the first adventure solo is a Paladin. Go for anything that pairs well with that. I’d advise good or neutral aligned. We’re looking to open up to a couple of others so that you can work together rather than stab each other in the back after all!

There's every chance (if your PC is local to the area) that Guwenomar's tale has been told far and wide. The nearest city is Loudwater. Waterdeep is on the west coast a good distance away. The High Forest and Graypeak Mountains are quite nearby. Merrywater is a tiny (fictional) village full of farmers and fishermen, there's not much chance of anyone coming from there.

You'll be coming in at level 2 (the same as the current player).

Anything else you need to know, drop me a message :)

Thanks for reading!

Journeying near South Wood?

Hi all,

I'm reopening to applications for one space. The current party make-up is:
  • Male, Human Wizard (Bladesinger).
  • Male, Human Ranger.
  • Female, Half-Elf Bard.
  • Male, Half-Elf Paladin, currently inactive.

You'd still be coming in at level 2 (about halfway to level 3).

Ping me a RtJ if interested, or feel free to PM any questions.
