Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

As soon as he was allowed Brutus entered the stadium to suit up. He would not let another day go by without the coaches seeing what he was made for. On Brenda's orders he went to the doctor after the day before to get his side taken care of and was now ready to play.

As he steps onto the field again he looks around. This time would be different for sure. He would actually be proving himself against someone. Brutus just prays he didn't mess up. Not likely but some of these guys might be better than him. It was something he wouldn't think about though. Not many could match the Shadow on the field.

Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

I hate being the last guy picked, Darren thought as he trotted out onto the field. He was early, so early in fact there were just a few players even on the field. Being early ought to make up for not being here yesterday, Darren reasoned. Darren found a spot by himself to go through his stretches. As he was finishing up, he noticed another player standing apart. Hmm... This guy looks like a defensive player Darren thought as he sized up the man standing there. Without really thinking about it, Darren strode over to him, intent on introducing himself.

"Hey, Tibbs Two-Three! You look like a defensive type. What's the lay of the land around here? I'm Mr. Irrelevant, Strong Saftey." Darren held out a hand to accompany his introduction.

Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

 Nathan walked out with his clipboard in his hand. Stepping onto the field he took a nice breathe of the air. He loved the smell of the field this early in the morning. Looking around as he walked to the sideline he noticed he already had some defensive players stretching and starting to warm up. It was good to see them so eager, that will change by the third week he thought as he flipped his folder open. Looking up he called out to a few the men.

"Clark...Tibbs...Wall...Payne...Rodgers, bring it in. I need to know who needs a play book. If you didn't get on yesterday then let me know. Today is going to be pretty free, use it wisely. I'm going to sit myself right up there in the nice both and watch you all do what ever you want to do. At the end of practice today you will either shower up and enjoy your night, or find a red tag in your locker. That red tag means you don't have what it takes to play on this team. Hopefully there are least a few of you that have some talent that only comes out when you are playing. So maybe grab you some 2nd and 3rd string O guys and see if they want to run a small scrimmage. Payne this is your defense if they fail you fail so hopefully you can get them together."

Nathan went down his list of players and took a mental note of who was there early and who was just coming through the door.

"If you have a question as it now. I plan to go hard all day so you will be tired by the end of the day. If you had to many drinks last night I assure you...you will taste them when they come back up."

"Well, things happen man," Darren remarked to the old Strong Safety. "Besides, I doubt I'm much of a threat to you. Jacksonville didn't even remember they drafted me, Philadelphia sent me a contract offer, and Washington thought I was the 'Hot Dog Vendor to be Named Later.'" Darren slipped his helmet down over his head and shouted back at Worth, "Besides, I'll probably be the first one cut. Mr. Irrelevants don't tend to last too long."

Darren looked around and located the defensive coordinator. "Hey, I'm Darren Clark, Strong Safety. Can I get a playbook?" Darren asked after approaching the coach...

 Nathan reached and grabbed a playbook. Handing to Darren he looked up, "Your going to need a new nick name if you plan on playing for this team, every member of this name matters and every member contributes."

Darren grabbed the playbook from the coach, flipped through it a bit, the replied, "Look coach, it's no badge of disrespect. I was picked last. That's all it means. I plan on turning it into a badge of honor. I want to be the next David Vobora." Darren flipped through the pages of the playbook, realizing he was going to need to put some real time in on this. Then, he turned back to the coach, saying "besides, I got a neat trophy and a week-long party for it. It would be disrespectful to drop the title now..."

Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

Alexia led the cheerleading squad out of the tunnel and onto the side of the field.  As she exited the tunnel, the early morning sunlight hit them and despite the sunglasses she was wearing, Alexia squinted against it.  She raised a hand to cover her eyes and surveyed the field.  Several players were already on it, some huddled together in groups.  She recognized a few of the returning players and noted that there quite a few new faces as well.  She would make a note to introduce herself and her girls to the new players.  Help them to feel at home.  Though to be honest, they might not be around long enough to even begin to consider the team home.

Alexia led the cheerleaders over to a large empty patch on the sideline.  They were not dressed in their gameday outfits and Alexia had left their individual wardrobe choices up to them as long as all outfits were licensed Dragon apparel.  Alexia herself was wearing black sweatpants that clung to her legs and the curve of her rear.  Up top, she had on a Dragon green sports spandex top that was cut-off at the midriff.  Underneath, she wore a Dragon sports bra for when the day got even hotter.

Alexia herself had the task of cutting the squad down to the 24 member squad that would perform throughout the season.  Most of the girls from prior years that were loyal to her would make the cut.  Alexia planned on using the next few days to get to know the newbies and determine which ones would best fit under her command.  She prepared a few routines that she would be taking the girls through.  It was often quickly apparent which of the rookies could memorize dance moves and which ones were hopelessly lost.

The girls spread out and started to stretch.  Alexia stood in the front with her back to the players on the field.  Slowly, she reached down one leg and stretched her left hamstring.  Her long mane of black hair, which she had tied in a ponytail, flopped to one side.  She hoped some of the players on the field were getting a good look at the view she was presenting.  Alexia had dumped her last boyfriend a few weeks back in anticipation of the upcoming season.  She was looking to getting to know all the new players personally and hopefully making one of them her first round draft pick.

 Nathan pulled a playbook out and handed it to Tibbs, "After practice I want to talk to you in my office." As Nathan let the playbook go he turned a called over to Payne and Wall. Just letting Tibbs know he wanted to see him should give him something to ponder while he practiced. Maybe some pressure would make him crack down...or maybe he would just crack, this way Nathan knew ahead of time.

Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

Alexia led the squad through various warm-up stretches, including a yoga program that she had created (yoga instructor being one of her former professions before joining the Dragons).  Some of her veteran cheerers know the program by heart and were able to make their way through it without instruction.  Alexia would wander through the ranks and help out some of the newbies with some of the poses and their postures.  She knew that for someone unused to yoga that they would at first find the whole thing rather easy, but be sore as hell tomorrow.  As she led them through the program, Alexia observed their interactions.  There was easy conversation between some of the cheerleaders, with the older ones getting to know the rookies.

Most of the rookies were Japanese girls whose families had followed the Amota’s over from Japan.  She had been told in no uncertain terms to keep as many of them as possible on the squad.  Alexia had at first been quite upset at this request as in her second year of being the head cheerleader, she had grown accustomed to shaping the squad as she saw fit.  However, she quickly saw that the Japanese girls were extremely loyal and obdedient, two qualities she prized in her followers most of all.  They were also quick learners and Alexia thought she would be able to make them an integral part of her squad.  She had already identified two individuals, Nika and Shira (identical twin sisters) as the two most loyal and ruthless of the imports and had told them in private that she would be relying heavily on them to help her maintain order among the other girls.  She knew that they would do whatever she requested of them and delighted in the power she was developing.  The addition of the Japanese girls also gave the squad an exotic flair unlike any other team’s squad in the NFL.  In public, the Japanese girls often came across as quiet and reserved, but Alexia had been frankly surprised at some of the things she had seen the girls do in private.

There were currently 20 of them in the squad with room for 4 more should any more recruits be identified.  An open call for additional cheerleaders was currently posted in local media and on the Internet and cuts would have to be made should more than 24 girls try out.  Mr. Amota had told her that he wanted the Dragonettes to be the premier cheerleading squad in the NFL and Alexia had every intention of delivering on that wish.

Brutus looks at Darren then at the Coach thinking about what he said. So it was already happening. After practice come see him. Come get your red tag in person more like. He heard it before...but he wouldn't give in. He would prove he deserved a chance.

"How I got here is a long story that started five years ago with a man wanting to go to Texas to play for the Longhorns. Instead some old friends set me up and I went behind bars for those five years instead. When I got out I went to these camps of other teams and with Oakland proved I should be playing...but it's the same old. No one wants to give me a chance. The difference between me and a guy like Pacman or Vick is I did my time without excuses. I could say it was all their fault and I'm innocent but in the end...it was my ass in that car and I deserved what I got. What people can't realize is....that I don't want to ever go back. I work hard to stay away from that joint and I work harder not to ruin my chances. So what about you?"

Brutus doesn't say anything in anger and the question is asked the same way Darren asked his."Just hope nobody messes up on purpose making me look bad. It's been known to happen."

Then he spots the guy who told him what time camp was yesterday. The same jerk who lied to him. No wonder...seems he played defense as well. Well buddy the Dragons only needed two starting CBs and one was going to be Brutus.

  Adam stowed his Dragon Karate suit in his  duffle to take back to his  apartment. he was  quickly dressed with uniform pants, T-shirt   with his pads over top and his practice jersey. He noted, that during the night, Some  of the players had a Dragon decal on thier helmets...orthers  Just had Forest green helmets with adhesive tape and thier name on...he smiles  just a bit..Sims was using everything in his aresenel to get players motivated.

  Jogging out to Mid  field, he noted the Dragonettes, he saw the D-folks  working  with Nathen watching them...Sims  and Amota were on the portable stand, Nilie there as well with a Dragon's  sunvisor on..Yuto was talking to Press folks  and  the few hundred fans that won a raffle to be at the practice

  Steele was not  far behind him, he  carried a football, spinning it  around on his hand, he noted the cheerleaders  as well..and stopped at Midfiled next to Adam.

  The small widereciever shook his jead,Look at them..you think they would be loosening up or something...

  La Roi  and  a few others  where standing about  holding helmets  and talking, only Stalls and Patrick who was another smallish Reciever were tossing the ball around...Sims  and Amota were watching.

  Adam shook his head, Get loose Supe....we'll see who wants to play... He put on his helmet and Steele did like wise, and they began to through back and forth...Adam's passes  hissed in to Steele's hands as they played a game of football cheicken. to see who would drop the first one.

where did you learn tyo throw  like that?  Steele chuckled.

  Adam Grinned.I was the 3rd team OB  for  both my college and Highschool team..Played one half In BC against Edmonton too...  he winks,I am undeafeted..3 and 0 in Highschool...4 and 0 in collge..and i am taking credit  for the BC win too!

 Marcus walked out in his pads on his shoulders, Nike's on his feet and a Stetson hat on his head. Making his way over to the bench he pulled his helmet out of the bag and set it on the end. Looking around he smiled at how many people had shown up. It's nice to see some real players.. Taking his hat off and setting on top of his bag he placed his helmet on his head and strapped it. Looking over his shoulder he noticed #99 Antonio Diego headed down the bench line.

 "He amigo, Nice hat! Say Cowboy you going to rope us a few tackles..." Diego laughed a bit as he got closer. When he was within reach He leaned down to grab Marcus' hat. In quick unexpected moment Marcus lashed out and grabbed his hand bending it back at the wrist.

"Don't touch my hat fat boy! It's to early in the morning for me to be stringin' up swine for the slaughter so what do you say we just let this one go."

 Coach Lewis called out from the other end of the bench. "Come on boys, play nice. Remember we are on the same team here. Diego if you want to put your hands on something make it a ball carrier. Payne, don't hurt my back-ups!"

"Sorry about that, boy, I'd hate to hurt your hand...then how would you bring the rest of us water."

 Marcus let Diego's wrist go and turned jogging out to the end-zone to meet up with a few other defensive players already stretching. Why must they always go for the hat. Just once I'd like to find some guys that didn't get hung up on the roughneck part of my life and see the football talent.

Then he started stretching out his muscles and gave the crowd a brief glance, he normally didn't even remember they were there but he scanned the crowd for a moment to see which press-people would show before switching back into game-mode and blocking out everyone watching.

Jo steps out of the locker room having dressed already. It didn't feel right to her that the two girls were forced to change elsewhere. They were members of the team and to her that meant being with the team at all times. She looks into the stands seeing her wife and kids and her dad wearing his old K.C. jersey. Not bad dad...see he still likes his old team.

As Jo steps across the field she sees some reporters and a few photographers snap her picture then she notes one player that she recognized. It was the reason she wasn't sure of coming to camp to face. Steele...the QB she beat in her senior year when he played with Ohio State. Well they can't always be perfect.

She looks around then notes where the offense is and goes over looking up at Coach Sims and Mr. Amoto."Excuse me...but I'm here to try out for Quarterback. Though I was drafted by Kansas City they let me go cause they don't want girls on the team. Thought you might at least give me a tryout."

Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

As Alexia strolled through her squad, helping some of the girls with the stretches, she kept an eyes on the players arriving on the field.  Alexia had been upset that a lot of the old players from the Jaguars had been let go.  She had dated a fair number of them and been friends with others.  Using Facebook and other means, she had been able to keep in touch with some of them, especially the ones she knew liked to keep a girl or two on the side for when married life became too boring.  Ultimately, she had been grateful that she too hadn’t been let go when the new regime came in.  She knew she just as easily could have been out on the streets with the old Jaguar players, trying to catch on as a cheerleader with another team.  It would have killed her to lose her senior position on the squad.  Like the city of Jacksonville itself, she was also grudgingly caught up in the excitement of the new team.  It was a fresh start, both for the team and for her as head cheerleader.

The appearance of a female from the locker room area clad in practice pads caused Alexia to pause.  She had heard that the team had drafted a female kicker, which she had initially supposed was a publicity move.  This woman looked different than the pictures she had seen and Alexia guessed from her jersey number that she was slated to play somewhere on the offense.  Had the Dragons signed two females to play? Alexia could see how a female could play kicker, but this girl looked like she might get snapped in half if she had to take an actual hit.  The thought of her girls on the sidelines having to compete with the male fan’s attentions with a female position player on the field caused Alexia to frown slightly.  She would have to keep an eye on this one to see if she would cause any problems.

Jo looks at the contract then signs it without hesitation."Don't care about money just playing and showing those teams that wouldn't give me a shot what I can do. You need to ask someone how I play ask Steele. I was the one who led the Bulldogs to victory over him last year. If I recall we were the only team to beat Ohio State."

After signing the contract she goes to where she was told looking at number 19 and the others. She carefully picks up a pigskin letting it meet her fingers as she feels the texture of it. She looks at the guys wondering which were receivers."Someone want to go long so I can show the coaches what I have to offer. And when I say long I mean it."

One of the receivers looks at her then she smiles. It was good to see a familiar face."Woody boy it's great to see the Dogs represented." It was weird seeing him here though. Just hope he could catch the ball. He goes long knowing just when to make the cut then Jo lets it sail normally she could get it further but she didn't want to show off still the ball carries the sixty yards right to Woody he makes a catch for it but ends up dropping it in the end. She smiles then wonders what his chances were for making the team. As he runs back he smiles at her.

"Shouldn't have ate popcorn this morning I guess. Too bad I can't catch often...but not because of you Jo you always put the ball where it's suppose to be."

Jo smiles at him then looks again at her father. He looked pissed but she just winks at him to let him know it wasn't Woody's fault. Well...in a way...he just wasn't a starter. Or second string either for that matter. And he wasn't use to playing at this level. She knew by lunch...he wouldn't return. It was just a gut instinct."So what happened to your film aspirations?"

Woody laughs flashing that woodchuck teethy grin that earned him his nickname."You think I came here to play. I got someone watching me for a sort of Bad News Bears meets football type of deal. They say I'm a natural for it."

Jo laughs then pats him on the back."Good luck on that Woody."<Pink>

Then Jo looks at Steele knowing he was the number one prospect.<Pink>"We meet again Steele. This time though won't be for an undefeated season for Ohio State. This time it will be to see who will be on the Dragons and who will be starting."

Kat noticed that the locker room had been expanded a little when she got in, and shrugged. She had no idea if the other woman, women?, was a cheerleader, or, more excitingly, another player? Kat grinned, either way, she'd keep to herself for now, focus on keeping her job. Kat stretched out a bit, then put on her hip, thigh, and knee pads, forgoing the upper body pads and helmet for now. Instead, Kat put on a sports bra and then, short sleeved UnderArmour that was Dragon's colored. She'd ordered it after draft day, and brought it with her. It was a bit snug, but not enough to constrict breathing, and that was all Kat cared about.  Kat carried her upper body pads and helmet over her shoulder and made her way down to the field...

~~~
Kat hit the field to see things in full swing. As the only kicker on the team, she assumed they'd bring in a punter, though she could handle that too, if they wanted her to. Kat took a deep breath and began a full on stretch. She wanted to be loose and ready to go.
That's when she glanced over and saw a female, in pads, approaching Superman. Huh, well, she'd figured out who she was sharing a locker room with. Kat continued stretching for a bit, before heading over to the sideline to warm up by kicking some footballs into the net...
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
Jo watches Adam go then goes through her motions. She drops back waiting as he approaches the wall. A little further...a little further then she tosses the pass. It sails high but it does have the distance of a seventy-five yarder. Hopefully Adam can catch it as she tosses it she notes the familiar pain she has gotten use to in her ribs. It hurts but she manages through the pain.
Jo watches the ball sail down the line hoping that this one will be a completion. If not...she might as well pack her bags cause this ain't the Raiders. No one would keep a gun for an arm if they couldn't complete passes. With Woody it was understandable...he just didn't have the best. But now...she would find out if she had what it took to make it on the pro level. And with this guys size he probably wouldn't tank it to make her look bad cause in the end it would also reflect him.
Jo watches seeing that the pass is on the money and praying that it will also be a completion. Come on Adam just do what you'll be getting paid to do.
Kat was at the wall Adam told her to warn him about. She had stood up now, watching the Quarterback competition get into full swing. She nodded as Adam made the adjustments.
Then, Kat noticed the kids setting up the hydration tables. It didn't take her long to figure out a collision might be imminent.
Kat found herself sprinting towards the kids.
"Move! Now!"
Kat's plan was simple, the kids would move, and Adam would slow down, or she would tackle him before he could hit the kids, and potentially hurt himself on the table, it would just depend on what happened now.
If she had to hit him, well, chances were, it was going to hurt. She didn't have the full pads on like Bronk did.
Freaking kids...
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
Alexia watched the QB competition with some interest.  Not only was it the most important position on the team and therefore the most critical for the Dragons to find a suitable candidate, but Alexia was also curious as to how the female would do.  She was joined at her side by Nika and Shira, the two silent presences that were always close by.  The three women watched the series of throws.  Alexia had to admit that the girl did have an arm on her.
"She good", Nika said in her broken English.
Alexia nodded, her eyes never leaving the field.
"Yes, she looks good in practice.  When she doesn't have a 300 pound lineman rushing her.  But let's see how good she is once she takes a professional hit.  My bet is she is riding the bench for the season.  Mr. Sims doesn't want to be held responsible for a pretty little thing like that getting seriously hurt.  Can you imagine the PR hit the team would take?"
She knew that the twins didn't fully understand every word she had said, but she knew that they get the essence of the message.  On Joanna's next throw, the entire squad turned to watch the path of the ball.  As it descended, as if in slow motion, several gasps were heard from the cheerleaders as the series of events unfolded and the mind leaped ahead to the possible conclusions.
Kat braced herself as she was still heading full speed towards Adam, and the football spiraling towards him.
"Adam! You're about to hit that wall! STOP!"
Kat also made an adjustment on the ball and wide receiver, the world felt like it was running in slow motion, or she was? Kat took another breath and stepped forward, her hands up, hoping that an INT, along with her shout to Adam would stop potential disaster here...
"Well that was ... interesting eh? At least he caught it."
He gave the woman an appraising smile, "Arm like yours and hands like his, we could bi in shape to rack some points this season eh?"
He offered her his hand, "Names Mikhail but, eh, people just call me Mik. I'm the running back - though I think we'd better amend that to blocking back seeing as we got offensive options that the coaches prefer." He chuckled softly, "Not that I mind at all, it's just great to have a shot at the NFL."
Then he jogged downfield to make sure both Kat and Adam were ok.
Jo felt bad in a way. Those kids could've gotten hurt and it would've been her fault. She should've prepared better. As she watches Adam she is thankful. One he still caught the ball. And two...no one seem injured. That was good. He was quick but she would have to work more with him. If she could determine his jumping in...they might make other teams flinch.
She cracks a smile at Woody again. He was good for one thing...short yardage. But when you needed a big play you wanted someone with an arm and speed. Then she looks at the rest of them. Jo made a note to herself...all eyes seemed focused on her at the moment. That was scary.
Then she turns to Steele."Steele you should know hitting doesn't bother me. Or did you forget when the Bulldogs beat you guys last year."
A couple of the cheerleaders let out small shrieks at what appeared to be an impending collision between the wide receiver and the female kicker.  Alexia herself remained outwardly calm, though her heart had started to beat faster and one hand had strayed to her chest in unconscious concern.  The squad let out a collective sigh of relief when it seemed that everyone was okay and the only thing damaged was a few gallons of Gatoraide.
Alexia turned to see the squad transfixed by what had happened, some in the middle of their yoga poses.  She clapped her hands sharply a few times to get their attention.
"All right ladies! Show's over.  Looks like everyone is as warmed up as they are going to be.  So get your butts over here and get some pom-poms!"
The squad scrambled to their feet and trotted over to two large cardboard boxes that Alexia had had brought to the field.  They each took a turn reaching in to grab a set of pom-poms, the brightly colored strips of plastic twinkling and reflecting the sun.
Jo goes into her stance waiting for her receivers then she notes one is Woody. Oh well it wouldn't be too bad she guessed. It was only 10...should be easier for him that way. As she drops back she notes again the pain in her ribs...damn...that was going to be a nuisance. She looks for the open man(in her mind picturing the dbs.) and also for the most prepared. Surprisingly Woody was eager for it. Hell it was a shot for him to look good.
Jo releases a perfect spiral that goes the short yardage right into the numbers of Woody who does come up with it. He looks surprised then Jo laughs. This was more like it.
Jo grabs another ball then looks around as another receiver steps up as she looks at #87 and then notes as they go out and she steps back one of the receivers wasn't paying any attention. That wasn't good. It was an opportunity though. Jo tosses another ball this time with more ummphh on it...the ball sails quickly nailing the target in the back as he never turns around to catch it.
Jo frowns but looks at the coach."Sir...we have someone asleep out there. Course you did say take their heads off. But I figured...with my arm...I might do it literally and opted for his back."
As the receiver comes back he looks daggers at Jo and she looks at him."Hey lameoid if you would've been paying attention that would've been a completion. If you fall asleep you cost the team in the end. If you can't give a 100 % at all times you don't deserve to be on the field. Woody might only be looking to impress Hollywood...but at least he caught the ball dumbass."
Kat felt herself go up with Adam. Unlike the receiver, she was unable to make a second adjustment on the ball in the air...she was a kicker, not a bloody cornerback. She felt Adam pull a Randy Moss and one hand the ball, while tucking her over top to protect her from the impact. Why wasn't this guy a starter?
And then, the Powerade containers tipped over, and Kat felt herself get doused in the stuff. She came up from the tangle of tables, containers, cups, and Adam, sputtering. She hated Fruit Punch.
Kat cast a sour look at the two boys who were in charge of refreshments. They were the reason she was soaked in the first place. She shot them a glare, earning her nickname well. She sat slowly, scooting off of Adam in time for Coach Nevers and Coach Fry to come over and begin their amazement/argument. Kat smiled as Mik also ran over and took his hand up. She snatched a towel from one of the refreshment boys and walked over to Coach Fry.
"Coach, I'm good, honest. We're cool. Just...keep the damn refreshment idiots off the field..."
Kat glanced over to the two boys specifically.
"...and make sure it's not fruit punch!"
Kat walked off, toweling off as she went, taking a seat on the bench near where Alexa and her cheerleaders were. Kat sighed and toweled off her hair for a second time.
Mik made sure that he caught each ball and snapped on his turns properly. He'd been working on his catching after playing the first half of last seasons playing Tight-end in Canada due to a run on injuries to the main receivers and was glad of that work now.
After one of the throws from Joanna Black he turned after the catch to her, 'Nice arm you got there' and gave her a grin before jogging over to the other line. Now we have strength in depth for key positions too this team will turn some heads in this season, he thought silently whilst waiting and watching for others weakness he'd have to cover during games, I think we should make playoffs with a decent start.
Kat looked up at Coach, before grabbing a bottle of water and dousing her head with it. She needed to rinse out all of the Powerade before it became a sticky mess. So far, the water did fine. She rinsed it once more with another bottle before dying her head again.
It was true, in college, Kat had practiced place-kicking and punting, but when it came to games, the only time she'd had to punt was when the punter was injured. Did she think she could handle it? In truth, Kat didn't know, but she also didn't want to risk it given that she wasn't an established kicker yet.
She shook her head to Coach Fry.
"I practiced punting, Coach, but I never did it during games unless our punter was injured. I handled kick-offs and field goals and PATs. And I'm more than willing to do that here, but I dunno if you want me punting when you could sign a vet to do it. I mean, until I learn it at the NFL level, you know?"
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
In reply to Draon Player-Coach (msg #56):
Mik nods to Nevers, "I'm quick, mobile and can take a hit - more than happy to do returns for the team coach! I did them up in Canada too so have practise eh, not a problem."
He smiles confidently and brushes his hair backwards with his left hand, "To be honest I'm more than happy to fill in on special teams or offence where needed, the only places I've not really played before is kicker, punter and defensive line eh."
  Towards the end , before lunch. Sims Blows the whistle and calls out Before you leave.. you have  15 minutes or so to sign autographs  for those lucky fans who were  picked to come into practice to day...MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO...
  As the  crowds  swarms  from the endzome bleachers they Mob some of the Free agents and old Jags....Adam notices a small Girl with a cast  trying to get into the Crowd, but she cannot  because of al the older ones pushing  and jockeying  for positions...The Girls  Mother and father are waving her back, but she just shakes her head.
  Jogging over to her, Missed by the screening players and such for now, Adam smiles at the Girl,looking for autographs?..then he Motions to themother  and Dad  if he can take her with him..they slowly Nod  and he picks the Girl up.KAT!..STEELE!..MIK!  he waves them over as the dutifully make thier  way to the crowd.This little fan wanted  some autogrpahs..I was thinkign, she may as well start with us?"
  Her mouth is shaped  like a 'o' as he looks at Kat  and hands the notebook to her first.  Adam waves  one of the staff over  and tells her to send the mother  and father over as well...
  Ivan comes over as soon as he sees the little girl as well...
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
Kat nodded to the coach, and pretty much spent the rest of the time focusing on putting the football through the uprights. She wasn't surprised that some fans had come out to see them.
She also wasn't surprised when the known quantities, the former Jags players, and free agents were the ones getting most of the attention. Kat picked up a football and was about to do a punt, just for laughs, when Adam called her. Kat tucked the football under her arm and jogged over.
"Yeah?...Oh! Hi!"
Kat was thrust a Sharpie marker and a notepad. She smiled and signed her name and number one the pad, then did the same on the football. Silver Sharpie showed up excellent. She smiled at the girl and handed Adam the autograph notepad, and the ball she'd decided to give to the girl.
Kat looked back at the girl in the cast.
"What's your name?"
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
After all the girls had gotten their pom-poms, Alexia nodded to Nika.  The silent Japanese girl walked over to a large sound system that had been set up on the sideline with two large speakers facing the squad.  Pressing a button, she walked back to where Alexia and Shira were facing the rest of the girls.  From the speakers, the Dragons theme music blasted forth.  Heavy on bass with a techno flair, it had been created for the team as a symbol of their fresh start.
Immediately, Alexia threw herself into motion, Nika and Shira mirroring her movements.  Alexia had worked on the offseason designing a number of routines.  She led the squad through a basic one for this song in order to see who could easily grasp basic moves and who would struggle with the introductory steps.
For six solid minutes, Alexia and her two shadows worked to the music, the series of moves repeating approx. three times.  Her pony-tail whipped around as she danced and writhed her body, exuding a raw sexuality that she knew delighted the male fans.  And that was hopefully catching the attention of some of the football players on the field.
The players practiced on the field behind the squad as they worked their way through the routine.  As the last beat of the music died out, Alexia surveyed the squad.  She was breathing slightly heavy and a thin layer of sweet covered her body.  Her ample bosom rising up and down, Alexia surveyed her charges.  Most of them had performed remarkably well, though she could see those that would require additional work before she let them out on the field for an NFL game.  But it seemed like a strong squad with a lot of potential that would make the new owners proud.
Her attention was diverted by the approach of the new owner’s son.  Both Nika and Shira bowed respectfully to him and Alexia followed their approach.  After listening to his question, she nodded her head.
”Excellent idea, Mr. Yuto-san.  I think I would like to keep them all and that leaves us with four openings.  They can at least sign a preliminary contract good for training camp, if that is all right? I don’t want them to lose any of their motivation!”, she said with a smile and a wink at him.
  Yuto  grinned, I think..you know..as they all should... he nods to the girlsthey are  getting paid well above the cheerleaders in the league...so they can devote  time to this enterprise, without fear of needing  extra help down the line...of course, the Squad  will get 75% of appearance fees  and such, the  other 25 goes into the Squad's resource fund for future uniforms  and the like...If nothing else  comes  from this season, Father..and I...would like your girls to make everyone forget the Cowgirls...all the others , are but faceless compared to them...we wish them , faceless compared to you...also? You are the only squad that will be traveling with the team to away games...Father hammered  this out  at the Owner's meeting...I am sure you will not be treated well on the road...but...should you begin to win fans over..and  we begin to gather Dragon Fans  across the country...You  you will see what an effect it will have  on our team..already...
  he leans  abit closer, looking  right and left,..my sources in some of the other cities tell of how some of the other squads are demanding the same tretment..some are threatening to walk out...all this  is good for our morale, and not...for thiers...
 Looking back at the assembled Cheerleaders he bows slightly and says,So?..any who have not signed , Please to come to my office....he points  up to the main Luxery box on the Dragon's homeside of the 50,..and we get you signed...oh..and do not be afraid to sign autographs for the lottery fans who come to camp...it would not hurt to have cheerleaders known by thier names...yes?
 He bows  again slightly, and moves off opening his metal Clipboard  and thumbing thorugh papers  as he does. Stopping for a moment he asks,Miss Alex? Nilie was wondering...if on the uniforms you wear..that have sleeves..if you would like a Dragon, or if ytou perfer for the girls to pick a number of a dragon's  Player...and..if you woulod  wish names on them...once you deciede..come see me..we can work on getting the  game uniforms ready..."
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
As the fans swarm the field Jo smiles at them then notes a large contingent of girls coming her way. They were all being led by her biggest fan of course...her dad. He looks pleased then comes clapping her on the back.
"Jo these young ladies all are big fans of yours who watched you at Georgia. They all wanted a chance to meet you and be a part of this."
Jo begins taking there names then signing autographs for the girls. It felt weird for her to do this as she was yet not a member of the team but this was part of the thrill of being a player.
As she turns she notes a man taking photos then a woman come over who has a mic from ESPN."Ms. Black we were wondering how you feel about the Chiefs cutting you without giving you a chance to play."
Jo smiles into the camera as she continues to sign autographs then she picks up a ball looking at a young boy coming down from the stands. He looks at her smiling signalling he was open. Jo tosses the spiral and the boy catches it...it was only about fifty yards but still it was a hell of a throw and a hell of a catch."Guess what? Chiefs you didn't want me cause I'm a girl. Well girls can play to and it was a very big mistake. I will become a pro player and when we face the Chiefs I will show no mercy."
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
Brutus talked briefly with Coach Fry agreeing to a workout with him after Coach Lewis was through with him. When Coach Sims announces the autograph session Brutus felt it was likely he wouldn't be included. No one wanted an ex-con around their kids so he didn't know why he would suffer through it. Then he notes a man leading some children his way.
As the man gets closer Brutus notices that it's his old warden."Brutus good to see you finally getting a decent chance. These young men are a bunch of kids from the inner city who I hope you will honor with an autograph and maybe talk to them later. All are troubled youth who might be heading towards prison someday if they don't change their ways. I would like to prevent that and I know you would too. I know if you make the team you won't have much time but when you do I support a youth center in town that could really use a counselor like yourself in it."
Brutus laughs then starts signing jerseys and such."Youngsters if you are walking the wrong road then you really do need to change your ways. Despite this training session and everything you saw me doing I still might not ever be playing pro ball. That's cause I messed up. Don't let it happen to you. I know it's hard to turn against your friends who are caught up in running with gangs but remember true friends don't ask you to do what's wrong. And Warden...I'll be down to the Center every chance I get. And what more I'll get you some tickets for home games for the kids who keep out of trouble. I might even be able to arrange some autographs including a few signed balls by the whole team."
Brutus looks around then spots Clark."Hey Mr. Amazing...want to sign a few autographs for these young men?"
Mik takes the ball and signs it, then does the same for the pad before handing them back. He gives the girl a grin, "So your one of the new Dragon fans then eh? It's real nice to have some people on our side, maybe one day if you work hard and stay healthy you could be a Dragon too, just like Kat eh?"
He does his best to catch the eye of a few team mates and calls them over to also sign for the girl before turning towards Lydia's parents, "Thanks for coming down today we appreciate you taking time out to come support us today. Hope to be seeing you again soon." Then he starts signing other autographs and tries to give Yuto and Kat a chance to speak more with the family without being too swamped by autograph seeking fans.
Her dad smiles and stops to sign the ball as Jo walks to where Lydia is. She kneels down so she can speak face to face to the girl as she's autographing the ball."So sweetie how do you like what you see here. Isn't it awesome. Young women finally being able to play pro ball."
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
The cheerleaders squealed in delight as Yuto described the benefits they could expect as members of the Dragonettes.  Several clapped their hands, bouncing up and down, while one American girl was overcome with emotion and planted a quick kiss on the Japanese man’s cheek.  The Japanese members of the squad remained quiet and collected, instead bowing deeply to show their appreciation.
Alexia had heard some of the details before, but the bit about the cheerleaders traveling with the team was new to her.
That could be very . . . interesting!
Alexia clapped her hands several times to get the girls attention.
”You all heard Mr. Yuto-san.  Any of you rookies need to get up there and sign those contracts.  But don’t think that means you can take it easy, ladies! But before any of you go up there, I want you all over there to sign some autographs and take some pictures!”
The bulk of the squad scampered across the field to where the players were inter-mingling with the fans.  Alexia followed along beside Yuto for a few seconds as he discussed his plans with her.  She nodded at his comments, a smile on her face.
”We already have some Dragons uniforms, but I think we could come up with a few new outfits as well.  Have some variety.  I have an idea, similar to yours, where each of the girls would wear an player’s jersey onto the field for the pre-game introductions where we form our tunnel.  So yes, I would love to stop by sometime and share my ideas with you.”
Leaving Yuto, she joined the rest of the cheerleaders and players.  Several of the girls were already taking pictures with the male fans in attendance.  Alexia heard her name called by a trio of teenage boys, who must have remembered her from the prior seasons.  She headed towards them with a smile.  A fourth boy was standing nearby with a camera.  Without needing to be asked, Alexia wrapped her arms around the neck of one of the boys and leaned in, planting a kiss on his cheek that was accompanied by the camera’s flash.  The boy immediately turned bright red, but seemed to enjoy it as he high-fived his compadres.  Alexia took individual pictures with each of the boys, including one where she was horizontal and the four boys held her aloft, and signed her name on a Maxim magazine issue that Alexia had appeared in for their special last year of “Girls of the NFL".
Mik enjoyed this kind of wind down after a training session, it was good to relax and get back in touch with the real world a little. "You kids keep out of trouble now you hear. My advice is to pick a sport you love and play it every chance you get - that way you'll be fit, happy, healthy, social and staying out of jail."
Even after the required 15 minutes were up he kept on signing for a few more minutes until he was satisfied that those that wanted his signiature had one. Then he turned to walk off the field but saw a familiar form at the back of the stands walking slowly towards him. Mik smiled and waved as his college-ball mentor approached and said, "Hey there sir, very good to see you here - thought you were busy in Toronto."
The old man removed his baseball cap and gave a wide smile, "Heh, well you see Mik mah boy, I told 'em that I was a'coming down here to see how you was doin' and there weren't no nothing that could be a'stopping me. They had to listen." he gave a deep laugh and grasped Mikhail in a hug.
"Great to see you sir, how long are you down for? I hope it's a couple of days so we can catch up a little - must be nearly 6 years now eh?"
"Too long mah boy, far too long. Well off you go and get changed now and then you can show me around a little, I'm just here for 'night and tomorrow - got a late flight back home then. I'll await out front mah boy." With that the old man turned towards the exits and slowly walked away, pausing briefly to look over the pitch and wink at Mik.
Kat smiled as most players seemed to be enthusiastic about signing autographs. Kat's father had always told her it was the fans who paid their salaries in a way, and that she should smile and shut up and sign the papers, or pictures, or footballs.
So, she finished up with a few autographs, and stood on the field, looking around and taking in the scene. She still hadn't encountered the cheerleaders yet, though they'd looked like they were already in dance shape and form when she'd seen them earlier. She also hadn't met the female QB.
"All in due time..."
Kat folded her arms across her chest and watched.
Alexia had been backing away from her latest encounter with a fan when she bumped into Kat.  Giving a little start, she turned around to see who she had run into.  Her hand went to her back, where her bump into Kat had rubbed off some of the Gatoraide that had previously given Kat a bath.  Rubbing her fingers together, she grimaced down at her hand in disgust.  She reached over and wiped it on the back of fan passing by before looking back at Kat, a small smile erasing the previous expression on her face.
"You must be Kat, our new kicker!  Looks like you still got some of that . . . stuff on you.  I'd give you a welcome hug to the team, but . . . you know.  I'm not a big fan of Gatoraide baths.  But welcome to the Dragons, regardless."
Alexia jutted one hip to the side and placed her hand on it.
"I think it's good that management is giving girls like us a chance to get out on the field.  You can get out there a few times a game and help us anyway you can."
It was hard to tell if Alexia's tone was one of sarcasm or not, though her smile certainly appeared genuine.
"If there is anything me or any of my ladies can do for you, just let me know, all right?"
As she's signing she thinks back to all those who showed her encouragement over the years. The coaches and people who always said she was destined for greatness. She was a good player but she never thought she would make the NFL mainly cause she didn't think anyone would care to give her a try but her she was and signing official autographs to. As she does se also thinks to the skeptics most notably those that beat on her when she was a kid. Unfortunately a couple had caught up to her a month ago and decided to reshow her the lesson they had to teach. Her ribs paid the price again but she wasn't about to let it show. Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
James sighed to himself as he looked over the practice.  It had been many years since he'd played for this team.  Well, technically he'd never played for this team.  Same city, but that's it.  No one pressed him for an autograph.  He hadn't worn 84 since his rookie year.  He'd been 84, 80, and 81, and was now back to his original number.  He noticed some players walking over to the sideline and said quietly to Mr. Sims "is practice already over for the day?"
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
Mik quickly changed out of his pads and threw on some sweats before meeting his mentor Coach Hobbes. He found the old man out by the gate and gave him a quick rundown of what had happened already in his brief stay.
"Ahh Mik mah boy, you're gonna be a Dragon and they'll love you here. You'se can run and catch, though you'll be needing to get some tips on blocking from one of the guards or defencemen." The old man gave a grin and laughed, "This is a good place Mik mah boy, don't you go and see to lose yer shot now yeh hear me mah boy? You get back to it and I'll go look around the complex. I'll be back to see you later on mah boy."
Mik stood fairly silently - just nodding along here or there - and kept listening. He thanked Coach Hobbes for coming once again and set off back to grab some lunch. He's right, he thought to himself, I can't blow this shot. I'm good for this place and they'll be good for me too - I need to make this work!
    The players  were invited to eat at the stadium's commisary, or they could hit  some  of the outlaying restraunts, or fastfood places around the  Stadium's  parking lot, or the shopping  comples..just make sure they weren't  late!
  Adam changed  and showered off the Gatorade, then slipped into  pracice pads and a Dragon's  Tee-shirt and heads up to the commisary.
  Moving  along the line  he grabbed some fruit,  and a couple pieces of pizza, and a large Milkshake...he looked around  and saw a table  by a window that overlooked the field.. he nooded hellos to some of the Dragonettes..he  noted with a  chuckles, that  The ESPN film crew were still here..probly wanted something  from the scrimmage...He sat down at the table  and looked over his  plate, Just As La Roi stopped at the table...the table  was only a few feet away from Sawyer and the ESPN  folks.
 Ya know you'er gonna get your ass kicked today..."
  Adam  takes a bite of Pizza without even looking up, Nodding as he does,yep...good bet there..that's what happens  when you actullay play..don't sit on the bench..so saying?..You won't even get dirty...
  La Roi slams his  hand  down on the  Table,I'm getting sick of your  wise-ass comments..who do you think you are..."
  Adam  looks up real slow...he takes a sip of his  milkshake, and stands..La Roi backs off a step as the  the wide-out looks at the taller man.I...am..A Dragon...I have a decal on my helmet that says so...I also know..I will be playing alot more then you..I have a feeling you might not even make it to summer camp..think about it..You have an old contract..why pay you ..the money  that piece of [paper says...when they can pay guys like me, who will earn..every dollar they get above the signing quote?...Sims...doesn't play Wusses...he cuts them..."
  La Roi's  mouth Opened  and his  arm drew back as if to swing...Think....real hard...'Ducky'...if  that arm comes forward..you will never use it again...
  La Roi  growel and stomped off....Adam sat down shaking his head, and took another sip of his milkshake.
"Yeah I know.  I'm all signed up and medically cleared to embarrass myself.  Well, see ya after lunch."  He nodded to coach Sims and made his way to the commissary.
En route, one kid stopped him for an autograph.  Kid must be a collector he thought.  He smiled and signed it, pretending the kid knew who he was.
Once at the commissary, he grabbed a sandwich and sat down, quietly watching the exchange between La Roi and Adam.
Alexia Ruiz:
"You must be Kat, our new kicker!  Looks like you still got some of that . . . stuff on you.  I'd give you a welcome hug to the team, but . . . you know.  I'm not a big fan of Gatoraide baths.  But welcome to the Dragons, regardless."
Alexia jutted one hip to the side and placed her hand on it.
"I think it's good that management is giving girls like us a chance to get out on the field.  You can get out there a few times a game and help us anyway you can."
It was hard to tell if Alexia's tone was one of sarcasm or not, though her smile certainly appeared genuine.
"If there is anything me or any of my ladies can do for you, just let me know, all right?"
Kat was surprised, both by Alexia's seeming kindness and her inability to get a straight read on the cheerleader captain. Still, Kat was going to take her at face value, and gave a genuine smile back.
"Thanks, rain check on the hug until I'm showered then."
Kat nodded when Alexia offered to help out if Kat needed anything, and then Kat trekked her way up to the locker room. She stretched out, then ditched the gear and took a long, hot shower, being sure to scrub off the rest of the Gatorade. She got into a pair of black yoga pants and a Dragon's t-shirt that had been a gift during the draft process. She tucked on some sneakers and made her way into the stadium's cafeteria, just in time to see LaRoi decide not mix it up with Adam.
Interesting.
Kat grabbed a Gatorade, a water, and a chicken topped caesar salad and dug in. She hadn't realized how hungry she was until she started eating. Kat thought about the day again, and smiled, she'd have to reintroduce herself to Alexia when she wasn't distracted and covered in Gatorade.
But for now, food. The table she was sitting at was empty for now, but Kat figured as the others filed in, it'd fill up.
 In a few minutes, Adam  had  the ketchup bottle, Muster, salt  and pepper shakers and His Milkshake, and was using them as players to show Stalls  some ways to beat at double Coverage.
Kat looked up, just about to take a bit. It was almost comical. Kat nodded to the woman.
"Uh, yeah, sure, please take a seat."
Kat took another bite of her salad before downing some of the Gatorade, making sure none actually got on her now that she'd cleaned up.
 More laughter from the  folks  some hooting towards  Adam  and Kat. Adam  griined as he waved to  folks, Catching Sawyer's eye he waggles  a finger at her..she smile demurely and her and her crew  just laughed  it off.
  The Co-host a woman who played probasketball at one  time smiled as she said, looking inot the camara,You can Laugh Ed, But hese last few days...all we have heard of is Amota, or Sims, or the Dragons...what ever this season turns out to be? The Dragons have become the team to watch!
Kat took another bite of her salad, smiling at Nilie's crack about the drinks.
"If I was paid as a safety or cornerback, I'd probably appreciate the Powerade bath more, or at least flipping end over end. But uh, yeah, Gatorade has less bite to it, goes down smoother, a bit less sugary, tastes better. That may just be me though."
Kat took another sip and then shrugged.
"Nobody's given crap directly, but if I were you, I'd check La Roi Givens. Man is all talk, can't catch, and just tried to pick a fight in the middle of a crowded cafeteria. Not somebody I want as a teammate, but hey, I suppose that's unprofessional of me to say so. But, you asked, so..."
Kat shrugged.
"Yeah, Bronk can take care of himself, made a fine adjustment on the ball, even if we did end up taking a Powerade bath."
Kat shrugged.
"What's it like being in a male dominated league? Well, honestly, it has its ups and downs. There's a lot of attention that comes with it, and a lot of bigotry from those who think I have no business doing it. But then, to some, I'm an 'inspiration'. Me, personally? I just do it because I love to. Being a woman doesn't factor into it, I just want to win football games, and be part of a team, and make money doing something I love. So, a mixed bag, I guess?"
"Focusing on the pass is one thing.  Devoting everything to it is another.  Adam has talent, but he hasn't lived in this league.  It's a higher caliber of players.  They study the other teams plays.  If we become a one-trick pony with no running game, we will die.  Perfect example, Atlanta Falcons.  Amazing short game, probably the best in NFL history, but because they relied on it, they became too predictable."
James sighed and took another bite.  "Now, take that weakness and add to the fact that we are a brand new team of free agents and trades.  There's some talent here, but no cohesion and no franchise building superstars.  Just don't get your hopes too high.  If nothing else, though, you'll be the first Fullback in NFL history to take a pass from a woman."
Mik headed up to grab some lunch in the commissary and chose a light pasta salad with fruit juice. He looked around and saw that everybody was already splitting into pair or threes. Now let's see, he thought, I've already spoken to Ivan and Adam, plus I'll be working with them anyway. I've breifly met Kat too and she looks a little busy with Mrs Amoto. He looked around the room and saw a table where some of the defence were chatting, Well I'll not be working much with them so I'd better get to know some other way - we need all sides of this team to bond together and quickly too.
He walked past those hed already met and waved to each, then made his way over to the defense and sat down, "Hi there, Mikhail San-Giguerre - but just call me Mik, eh? Can't tell you'se guys how glad us offensive-types are to have a tight D like this." He gave a brief grin and then took a bite of his lunch, "Side note, I need some pointers on my blocking so feel free to let me know how I can improve once you've gone through me." He winked and chuckled, "I'll let you know how I got past you when I run it too - fairs fair."
Kat smiled, she was glad that she had the owners' vote of confidence, it was going to guide her leg when she was blasting the football through the uprights. She sighed and stretched. She smiled apologetically at Nilie.
"I will be sure to make you all proud."
Kat finished the rest of her salad and drained her Gatorade.
Jo and Brutus leave the field together after signing a few more balls. As they walk towards the sidelines Brutus notes that Coach Lewis is busy so he wouldn't be able to talk to the man earlier than the man wanted. Instead Brutus goes into the food area grabbing a plate then going to sit down by himself. He wouldn't mind being near some others but he never knew how they would like a convict around them so he was being cautious.
Jo on the other hand grabs a small meal then goes to sit down. She tries to spot Bronk wanting to talk further with him when she can't find him she spots Chucky then goes to sit by him."Woody how are things going with your movie deal."
Woody smiles his huge Texas grin laughing."I got the part. I figured I would wait until after practice today to tell the coaches and thank them for giving me the opportunity. Good luck out there. Between you and Steele and no offense Steele gets the starting nod. It's just he was a high draft pick and they don't let those ride the pine pony. Of course you would be good in long yardage situations when we really need to score fast. I've never seen an arm like yours Jo."
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
When Adam tapped the table Brutus first thought of throwing down. Man should be careful afterall. It brought back the stuff that Tibbs faced inside and that wasn't good. A lot of guys there always tried to pick a fight with the boy whom was a warrior on the field. Still this guy shouldn't be lecturing Tibbs. He was a fundamental player and he knew how to get the job done."A paycheck...what's that. Five years I've been playing and all I got for that was busted bones and hardships. Now if you want fundamental football you'll see it. You'll also see someone who hits with the force of a bull and is able to read the whole field. I'm not bragging just stating fact. When I play QB's better beware cause I know how to catch the ball and I know how to stop offenses from getting big yards. As long as the rest of my defense plays with me that is."
It was good advice but still it got on Tibb's nerve. He knew what to do in scrimmage and the one thing the Receivers better be ready for...is to watch out for the Shadow.
Tibbs looks at the Coach when he mentioned the length they could run on a return. It would be okay he guessed but it wouldn't get them the feel they needed. Still he guessed it was just something that was needed.
Brutus goes to a place around the end zone thinking if the kick is deep he should be ready. It was what he was best for. Not touchbacks though...not his style. He looks at the kicker waiting for the ball to be kicked. Of course he knew it could go to Mik also which was what else he was preparing for.
Kat grinned. She'd ran back up to the locker room, tossed on her gear, and run back down to the field when she heard scrimmages were getting ready to start. She wanted to do this well.
She adjusted her shoulder pads, and waited for the whistle that would signal that she could kick the football. Sigh. It was always about waiting for the refs...
Kat felt exhilaration course through her as she let the football fly. High and long, straight back towards the endzone. Despite this being a spring training scrimmage, this is the kind of stuff every football player lived for. She wasn't about to let her teammates or coach down now. Kat ran forward, but not as fast as the rest of the kick-off team. She'd be the last line of defense should the ball receiver not down it in the endzone. She'd had to prove that she'd done enough training to tackle somebody, now that was gonna come in handy IF the rest of the special teams didn't do their job.
Mik took up a position to receive the ball and waited for the kick-off, just as Kat thumped the ball up-field he took the weight off his feet and kept an eye on the ball. He was back-pedalling for it when he realised that Tibbs was in a better position so yelled out, "TIBBS BALL!" and moved in front of the catcher to block any tacklers.
A surge of glee hit him as he made first proper contact of the camp - the 'Vancouver Express' was back on the gridiron.
Awkward spot but it only came down on the goal line. Unfortunately that presented a big problem. Not necessarily a Touchback so Brutus swiftly moves to the ball then grabs it in  one swoop. He runs it out building up some speed and going though his cuts. As he passes five yards he awaits the play to be called dead. He continues doing his move until that point. Kinda of awkward when he thought of this. He would be actually playing defense next..against the team he was helping gain field position.
  Oddly enough? There  was no whistle, almost everyone contimued to move,  Blockers trying to hit  folks, coverage men converging. Mik Hit a Volunteer LB who was on the coverage team, the  Fellow  tries to spin off , But Mik took him well out of the seam...
  Tibbs Cut  for the opening, around the 23 yard line a rookie-freeagent had grabbed him But his Jersey, slowing him down enough  for The  thirdstring Halfback to bring him down on the  26..the whistle Blew........
  Sims nodded to the Coaches who began to hollar at the folks who drew up or quit on the  play after the "5 yards"..a common theme in the hollering was"..DID YOU HEAR A WHISTLE!"
 As the "first string offense" moved to take the  Filef, Sims  talked to them, An edge on his voice  as he said,  alright...QBs  have the wrist band..they are 'idiot bands'...we are here to see how you can think with some live  rounds going  off...Bronk..You know the passing Tree..you used it in college..I took a page from Your  old  Coach...Steele, Black? these  will be  all read routes, You set them  up and go..No big huddles..you come  close, QB calls  formation, recievers read the routes..see if you get on the same  page...whom ever  ends up as  an H-back..Listen  before you line up for a draw...If I shout out  to you to Huddle...you huddle, i will send  folks in with a play...this is to see who can handle  what at this time...so? Go have  fun...
  Steele took them out to the  field, NAthan was on the other sideline with his defensive folks and  had just told the  D what he wanted them to  do  Nevers was on the  Field behind the  O... The Dbacks  Coach  was behind the  D, all other coaches  where up in  the booth, they had Video Camras, and head sets, as did  all the  coaches...fans  where hollaring, not  really knowing  what to yell...sheets of paper where handed out to the fans by Dragonettes, so they could  put  name  with numbers.
  He looked over the  field, Steele felt a bit exposed, Adam to his Left, La Roi to his right..Stalls  was slotted on the  Line on his right, Mik a slot back on his  Left, and Ivan was the H-back... they knew the count...On one...Steele  barked the Hut, the Ball came  back, he  looked to his left, Clark  was Up in La Roi's  FAce, the  Tall fellow looked like a school girl trying to get off a bus... Ivan stepped Up, he  and  Marcus  Smashed together with a loud clack off  pads, and Both  went  down..the  Line grunted and Groweld  as whacks of  pads hitting  pads, 'punchout' blocks clapping  against chest protection,..Mik slipped out  behind the Line, Worth CAme Up fast and hard, Bronk Had Dipped a shoulder  and brought his right hand Up under the DB's Left arm and was past..the Little  wideout didn't even stick his hand up as he looked back to Steele..who had seen him and fired a rope...Steele never saw the pass completed  as Branch # 50 Buried him... The BAll Hit  Adam's  hands  at the 30, and He  took off.. Clark  had the angle on him, or  appeared to...he  had to adjust But  brought  Adam down down with a diving  tackle  at the  D's  49 yard Line..whistles  Blew and Adam tossed the ball to the Ref..he whacked Calrk on the helmet and  grinned...
  as the team moved  quickly Steele shouted out the same  formation..he looked at the ref with open hands, about being hit...Nevers answered himNo Red Jerseys today...we said  live...
  The next play  Steele hand the count on two...Johnson  Jumped offsides  for the D...1st and 5  at the 44....they Huddled, Mik was the H-back...Steele  called the snap..and GAve Mik a wrap-around draw.........
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
Mik took the ball and nestled it carefully to avoid dropping it as he started his run out wide. He quickly saw that there was a gap infield but that would mean that he'd be easier to catch downfield - It's worth it, he thought, get first down and anything else is just a bonus.
He sidestepped one of the corners and made for the hole - he could see a linebacker coming hard and fast at him but kept going until he could make his cut-move back outside and run the touchline. "Push it Mik", he muttered, "Time to light the tires!" He made his move as he felt a hand brush his shoulder, he kicked into a higher gear and made it to the touchline near the 35-yard line before he got slammed into touch.
Mik lay on the ground a few seconds tensing his muscles to check for damage, but even though he hurt it was just passing pain. He rolled off his back and got on his feet, drawing in a deep breath before he jogged back to the scrimmage line with the ball.
  Adam was shaking his head at La Roi as they got back to the Huddle,Yu could have made another 5 yards..maybe  more if you slipped the Tackle.."
 Shut  up , Midget..I caught the ball...  La Roi looked around the Huddle, Adam's displeasure  was not the only he could see.
   they Huddled up now, Steele looked over the group,They are getting closer to breaking the protection..they  just brought  another Corner in to cover you Adam...Tibbs is  still on La Roi..
  Well, I guess they didn't  teach  you about listening to your  coaches?"..Adam nodded  Behind the D-back..as the D-back Turned his  head, Steele had called the snap...Adam Cut  across the  D-back's  face and had the Ball before  the back even knew the ball was snapped... Clark and Worth converged on  Adam. and he  just lowered his shoulders  all three hit together..But the Ball was over the Goal..The Ref's  Arms  went up...and the Dragons on the Score board Blew fire and  smoke...Both Roared loud  and the  fans  went  crazy... The  backfiled coach was  in the corner's  face..every other  work an explicative.
  Then...The extra  Point..the Offense Lined Up except  for  Adam  and Laroi..who were standing with  Steele, Black  and Sims......Kat Kicked the Ball through the Uprights  as Sims  was showing all the wideouts  and QBs a sheet of plays, the  Punter  held for Kat..as the ref's  arms  went up for the PAT...Kat was leveled  By the DB  who had  just been beaten..He had his hands in a gansta rap pose  and was saying,Welco..... he never  finsihed Because Ivan crashed into him.. hard... knocking the  air  from him  and he layed gasping...holding his  side.  Adam...in turn..hit into  the DE that was  about to Hit Ivan..The little  Wide out  and  Giant DE where  pushing each other  about.It  appeared  Adam  had more  then he could handle..but it was quite evident..he did not care...Stalls, the Longsnapper  was laying  on top the  DT to make sure he couldn't get into the  mix...then SIms  went bananas
DAMMIT! Well the Hell you trying to prove..you wothless punk!  Payne  Had stepped  between the Right Guard  and right tackle to stop them  from  beating on anyone, Worth was By Mik, looking  at the gasping DB  and shaking his head.
  The D-backs  eyes  were rolling   as he tried to get his breath, Adam snapped outYou ...Cheap shot a KICKER?...Then you want to talk smack yet!
  Sims  Looked  at Nathan, who shook his head,get this  bastard off my field...he better  be out of the stadium by the  time this scrimmage is over...  Two trainers  helped him off the field towards the locker room,Sims  addressed the rest of the  team,You want to  leave off steam..you want to whack each other around..that's  fine...but...by god! there  will not be cheap shots on my team..when we put  folks out of the  game...when we hurt folks...it  will be  within the boundires of the game....
Alexia had split her squad up into two groups, 12 girls on each sidelines.  As the scrimmage kicked off, she felt the familiar thrill of excitement course through her as the crowd roared and the music blasted over the speakers.  She was surprised at how active the crowd was for a simple srimamage and their excitement was contagious.  Alexia shouted along with them as the ball sailed down the field.
The cheerleaders danced to the music that played between downs, kicking and shaking their bodies.  Alexia hadn't given them any set routines and had just told them to get out and be seen by the fans.
As Kat took the blind side hit, a hush fell over the stadium.  The cheerleaders paused, looks of concern on many of their faces as they watched to see if the female kicker was okay.  Alexia herself hoped the girl wasn't hurt, even though the hit seemed to prove her feeling that it would be dangerous to have females out on the field.  Clutching her pom-poms close to her bountiful chest, she stood next to Nika, waiting to see how quickly, and if, Kat would rise to her feet.
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
Kat had prepared for a lot of things. She'd taken plenty of hits. It came with the territory. She was in full pads. But, she was not prepared for a veteran NFL player to get pissed about getting burned and level her with a game hit from her blindside after the play was done.
It felt done anyways. Kat remembered putting the ball up with ease, and seeing the ref put his hands up, like they always would...and then Kat felt an immense pain and she was staring at the sky. Things were kind of hazy. It was the kind of hit that could end careers.
'Oh shit...what about mine?'
Kat definitely felt a stiffness in her neck. That was good. She moved her toes in her cleats, her fingers. Good.
She sat up slowly. She noticed red staining her jersey, and slowly removed her helmet. The DB had managed to get her to split her lip. Nothing serious, but the blood made things look one hundred times worse.
Kat grimaced as she stood up. Other than a bit of bleeding, she was just fine. And now...she was now another thing.
Pissed. Off.
Kat went ballistic, chucking her helmet at the DB's head, and started to go after his retreating form, cursing the entire time, only to find two of her linemen holding her back.
Well, they physically lifted her off the field as she started cursing after the DB. Kat was ready to kill the guy who would do that to his own teammate. It was almost comical the way the linemen literally picked her up, and set her down elsewhere, preventing her from following the DB. Kat shouted some more and wished she hadn't thrown her helmet...only so that she could throw it again.
She walked off the field and immediately was found by two of the support staff, who proceeded to clean and bandage her up. Kat sat on the bench and waited until she'd be needed again, still fuming over the whole thing.
  He  Turns  with the Bull HornLive Kick Return...whistle  ends  the play..got that!  the  Refs  signaled  as well as Lewis  who was setting  defense againFirst teams again...Sub in who you want NAthan...
  Turning to  Jo he saysJo? YOu'er in this  time, Adam  you stay in..La Roi Your  are on the coverage team...Gerhart? Take La Roi's  spot..you need  any questions  answered  about the patterns in the huddle?  Ask Bronk... nodding to Jo  again he says,remember the sheet...when in doubt, just call 'read routes' and move the ball...use the H-backs  for  draws, and ...if you see them playing off? hit  the slots  or the  wideouts at the line, let them run with it...
  Then  Looking at Adam  and Mik  with a nod, Mik? next placement you hold..or Kat  can pick  another Holder if  she wishes,,,that's  something  we can work on tomorrow as well... He blows the whistle  and The return teams  head out  onto the field,Let's go Kat....
 Kat could  tell  he expected her to kickoff...and this  kick was live..no quick whistle... La Roi was  going out on the  far end to cover the Kick, Adam Looked at Sims,La Roi?...to cover  a kick?
  Sims  smirked a bit,I know you want out there..one side or the other..but i have  my reasons...just Talk to Jo  and have her  set up the first plays...
 Steele, Adam  and the rest of the offense huddled around Jo ,The Third string QB held the  play sheet. Steele  said  cooly,Alright ...use your head...Sims  wants the move the  ball quickly...no wasted plays...You get in trouble  hit the slots...Ivan  will make sure  you get an extra  second...but ..they were coming hard as we neared the goal line...expect them to come out hard, since  we scored...
 Adam looked over at the sidelines, then to the  coverage  team.,"...The rookie  free agent is out there again, since the other  guy is gone.Worth and Clark know what thier doing, but its  hard to cover read routes...and if  they go man...we should have a field day...you'll get the feel as we hit the first couple plays...
When Kat stood up, a roar of applause swept through the crowd.  Alexia led the cheers with her group of girls, shaking their pom-poms and kicking their legs, which caused the crowd to applaud even louder.
She is one tough bitch! Alexia thought to herself.
The crowd loved Kat's helmet toss even more.  Alexia hadn't seen this much passion in a meaningless scrimage before.  The Jaguars last year had been like most other NFL teams and tended to lay off at times in practice.  But it seemed like this collection of players would fight to the final whistle, and even past it, if it meant that it would get them a spot on the team.
The squad on both sides of the field held their pom-poms aloft, shaking them in a rapid motion as a hum coursed through the stadium, slowly building in cresendo, as they waited for Kat to kick off once again.
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
One tackle and already bleeding.  Would make for great publicity, but didn't help to shake any reservations.  It's all right.  Kickers can be delicate.  She made the field goal.  He chuckled lightly to himself as she threw her helmet at her assailant, progressing to loud laughter once she was carried back by the linemen.  Photographers will love this.
James moved in as Sims explained subs, brightening to hear La Roi moved to defense.  If it worked, it'd be perfect.  La Roi and Adam would clash less, having less to compete for, and it moved James to the #2 spot.  All was well until he was told to ask Bronk if he had questions.  "Will do" he half muttered in response.  Ask a fuckin rookie.
Still, he couldn't deny being in a good mood, and he offered a wave to Alexia and her girls as he took the field for kickoff.  Female quarterback.  Time to make history.  He intended to make himself as available a target as possible.
Kat nodded to Bronk and Worth as they came over. All she wanted was to be ready for the next play. Which, was now. The trainers finished patching her up and now she was back in. She strapped her helmet back on and jogged on the field.
In the back of her mind, Kat was very grateful to the crowd, and then Alexia and her girls who had added to that.
She be sure to thank Alexia after the game.
Kat lined herself up, and then the whistles blew and she launched herself forward, blasting the football into the air...
Normally Tibbs would take the opportunity to go for a touchback but it sounded like the Coaches wanted him to field the ball this time. He looks at the right side smiling. That guy would never make it out here if this keeps up. Brutus goes for the hole presented juking as needed. He begins to build up his speed and this time he was prepared for something that kick return coverage unit should fear. A man who could score. If he could take it in he would. He moves around a few more then nearly laughs as another telegraphs his tackle to early and Tibbs spins around him also.
Mik once again saw it going over his head and so took up a blocking route for Tibbs. He handed off the first tackler to come close and tried to cut an angle that would give Tibbs time and space to get up to full speed so he'd be much harder to tackle. "Let's see how fast a shadow can run!" he grinned
He saw Kat and the HB coming in to get Tibbs and made up his mind immediately, Take the back not the kicker, no disrespect to Kat but she is the lesser threat here. He tried to change his route slightly and hoped Tibbs would see what he was doing. He was not surprised that the other HB tried to spin around him and he sidestepped into his path, wrapping his arms around his waist and using the back's momentum to continue the spin. They fell in a heap together and Mik rolled on top of the guy before standing up and trying to see how the action was unfolding.
Alexia and the other girls watched as the kicking team lined up.  She gave a wink and blew a kiss in James direction as he ran onto the field and waved at the assembled squad.  All eyes in the stadium were on Kat with her hand raised as if she was a conductor about to launch an orchestra into a symphony.
The steady roar that had been building in the crowd released into one collective shout as Kat's foot connected with the ball.  The cheerleading squad's pom-poms were a blur of motion, reflecting and refracting the overhead sun.  All heads in the stadium turned as if on one swivel to watch the flight of the ball.  Once it landed in the receiver's hands, another cheer went up from the crowd.  Alexia, along with Nika and Shira, led the girls on her side, kicking her long tan legs into the air with amazing dexterity.
She hurries onto the field watching the sidelines. IF LaRoi came back onto the field and Tibbs also she would make sure the ball went to LaRoi. Just to see if Brutus could get a little payback. She looks at her wideouts then at Gerhart."Ger this is coming your way. Whatever you do don't stop till you reach the end zone cause that's where the ball is headed. La Roi....you just stay out of the way. But pay attention cause if they read this I'll need another option."
Jo takes them out of the huddle then looks at Sims for approval. It was risky but in short time it was worth it. She looks at the defense then. Some may be trouble if not careful she would have to watch out for that. She looks again at the defense then Desul."Coach...why ain't he out here? That's the man I need to block for me."
   Adam Did  not  have to read  the coverage too hard, Clark moved  over top  the rookie  DB tried to  shade the outside,....But...Bronk knew   La Roi  would not  go into the Middle ...La Roi  Broke out, Adam broke in..Clark froze as La Roi turned up the sideline with the Db turning and  running.. The Right backer  was in the  Flat  and Marques  had stepped Up, Worth turned to Run with Gerhart as he cut to the Middle, Tibbs  Running alongside....Jo had to  make the play  as the  other outside backer came, Just outside Where Stalls  was  chipping on Desul
  Sims  watched  it  all from the back Field, Mik had  stayed home...he watched to see what he would do...La Roi and  Adam run  an almost perfect  Cross...Gerhart  was drawing alot of attention...But   the line  was breaking down.
Mik had stayed back to protect and saw at once it was the right option, but the defence still had the numbers to overwhelm Jo as 'Diesel' tore a hole in the line. He made sure that he covered the angles of both runs to Jo but he knew he couldn't stop both players.
Making the decision he shouted to Jo, "NOW, NOW, NOW!" and set to block Diesel as he looked the most likely to get to Jo in time - plus he'd probably hit harder. Mik waited for him to come closer and at the last second twisted his weight around the ball of his left foot. As Diesel hit him Mik powered through and pushed him a yard upfield trying to put him in the way of the other blitzing back.
Throw Jo, throw it, he thought, I can't hold this guy back much longer! Diesel was aptly named with his muscular physique and he had hit Mik at full speed too. Mik started to concede ground and could feel his grip slipping so he tried to make sure Diesel came down with him when he fell, twisting his body. I've given her what time I could, he thought as he fell - the sunlight dazzling his vision, hope she got it off in time.
  The crowd  laughed and Pointed at the screens  from time to time...One animation  showed an egg...it cracked open  and a small dragon , wearing  a football helmet came out...the  another..then another..then another..and the the words " WELOCME HOME DRAGONS!"  ran across the bottom of the screen.
  Next it showed a small figure whose helmet was as big  as his body..the  small figure  caught  a football  and  its little feet moves  fast  around  some Bigger  players and scored"..Toughtdown ADAm.." it  read
 Shortly there after..it  showed a very feminie form of  a football Player Kicking  another Player over the stadium wall,"..NICE KICK...KAT.."
 In between there  would be replays  of the players  making plays, or shots of the Draghonettes...and onece in a while  a fan group.
Kat chuckled as she stood on the sidelines watching the scoreboard replays. On the field, Joanna was scrambling as the play unfolded. Whoever this Diesel guy was, he had overpowered Mik after a brief struggle and was getting ready to party in the backfield.
Not so good. Kat was praying Joanna got the ball out in time. She glanced down at her warm-up equipment, a football teed up to be kicked into a net, but she ignored it for now as her eyes were mainly on the play going down on the field.
It wasn't lost on her the gentlemen in the stands hooting and hollering, some as much for the cheerleaders as for the team. For a scrimmage, this felt like a game. It felt good. Kat grinned over at Alexia and the cheerleaders before snapping back to the field...
 Jo  looked over the filed, the  protection breaking down, Her first thopught was to let it go..But Gerhart had  altered the  route she had wanted... Stalls broke off his  route  to block, and  Mik  had  Just Flashed in frot of her to  Hit  the DE as he  slipped between the double  team...The LInebacker was picked up  latye by Stalls   as he pivoted around......
  Black  Looked at Adam who was open  for  about 6...But La Roi  was going up the sidelines..Clark , grew  roots as he didn't know  which of the recievers to  clep on...She..against her better  Judgement let fly  at La Roi.
  Bronk's  Hands were  Up  waiting to grab the  past,  the  ball whistled over his  head , staright to LA Roi....The TAll recievers  mouth  was open like  a fish  as his hands reached to grab the  ball..It hit his hands...bounced onto his facemask and Out  in front of him...Clark  had rushed  towards  La Roi after the Throw....The Tall man saw the  charging saftey  and short armed the rebound  Catch....Clark..however..snagged the tumbling  Ball and began to return it, Only to be met with a sloid  tackle  fromm Bronk...
  DAMMIT! yelled  Sims,STEELE!
  Adam  Helped Up Clark who hand a painful grin on his  face,good heads up...make sure you do that to the bad guys!
  When Adam Heard Sims  call for  Steele he  jogged over to  the Coach,Um...Coach...don't  jerk her yet...
  Sims  was Fuming,that's  a turnover Bronk! that ended her series...
  He looked around for  support then back  at  SimsControlled scrimmage..right? She hjas 5  more plays  coming...I mean...cripes  coach..it  was La Roi's  fault..the jerk  screwed up a gimme catch..then wussed out on the rebound...
  Sims  Looked at Nevers who was  staring DAggers  at La Roi..who was trying to stand  behind the Center and left tackle..Nevers  caught Sims  gaze  and nodded,boy's  right..only fair  to her and the Defense..we scored alot a scrimmage points  with Steel in..they  should have a shot at recouping some of them...Not her fault La Roi is gutless...
  Coach  Looked at Bronk and Nodded,Alright  Bronk..these next 5  plays are on you...if there is a tunrover in those  five plays , You and the offense that is on the filed owe  me 5 laps  around the outside lane of the track.
  Bronk  grinned as the ref  set the ball at the 20, going the other  way now as he reached the Huddle he said to Jo,You got  5  plays to score...doesn't have to be a Touchdown..we got Kat on the sideline  looking for work...oh...if there is a turn over..we all have to run 5  laps on the outside lane of the track..."
  He grinned at everyone, The Left Tackle Punched La Roi in the shoulder,Get yourself  some Guts, board  hands...  And  they Turned to Jo  for the next call............
Mik grinned in the huddle, "Well I reckon we hit them quick eh, perhaps a short pass to Gerhart over the top to grab a first down and then no huddle just launch one to the endzone for Adam to collect. I'm ready to fake the run and occupy some backs - should give you room eh?" he said to Adam.
"We have five plays so let's do it in less and make sure that there is only a chance of incomplete and not interceptions. We can use the remainder if it doesn't work eh?"
He said looking around the huddle. When his eyes fell on La Roi he spoke again quickly "And I don't know what your problem is but out here we give our best or we go home. I got no time for anyone who isn't giving a hundred percent - so get in the game eh, or you might find yourself taken out of it, hard."
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
At the defensive coach's comments, Kane didn't say anything, a frown briefly appearing on his face.  He had worked under a different defensive coordinator last year in his rookie season with the former Jags.  Now, brought back under a reworked contract despite his lawyer's best efforts, Kane wasn't exactly pleased with the situation.  Plus the fact that a family emergency had made him miss the first days of training camp didn't improve his mood any.  Well, once this old man let him on the field, he would show him why he was the best thing this team and defense had going for it right now.  Whether he stuck with the Dragons or managed to get traded to another team that would pay him what he deserved didn't matter to Kane.  The only thing that did was getting playing time and getting paid.
Kane looked up at the taller man.  He seemed to remember seeing this guy on another team last year and had been impressed by the man's speed for someone his size.  Kane took the man's hand in his larger one, giving his arm a firm pump.
"Nice to meet you, Diesel.  Name's Kane."
Kane pointed the offense on the field with his chin.
"How's the offensive line holding up?"
    Jo  Looked  around, watched the Pic, then the  tackle. She gave Mik  a stern smile,Thanks  for  keeping him off me... he  heart sank a bit when she heard Sims yell for Steele, But  saw Bronk Jog over and plead  thier case...after  Bronk came  back to the Huddle and explained  what was at stake..she nodded
  Alright..alright...Bronk...stalls ..in the slots....La Roi...Gerhart  at the wides..Mik at the H....Bronk  Cross the middle if its  there..stalls  take it to the Out..La roi..take  it up the field...Gerhart  Cut Inside  Under Bronk  and Stalls... every one nodded  Bronk leaned  a bit to Gerhart,  The Corner should  wait on Stalls.. I will make sure to  Rub off On Payne...Thier  right side backker  should be  waiting for you...if he blitzes..no one  will be there....La Roi will draw Clark and the  Rookie up the field...
  they Left the Huddle, Bronk as  Slot back on the O's  left...the  outside  backer was creeping, Bronk Called out the hot  read..or what the defense thought would be the hot  read..Jo  called the snap...Once more the Lines  came together..a little  more power in the hits...The  Backer swimmed past  Bronk's "missed"  block.. He  Cut  across and  Noted Tibbs  Drew up . waiting  for a pic on Stalls...Payne Dropped intom Covverage  and Gave  Bronk a whack on the  way past, and Turned to Run with Him,....Worth Read. skinny post  and was waiting on Bronk...Gerhart came under them  all. Jo's  pass lead him just enough to  be able to turn Up behind the Back who was chasing La Roi..
  Mik  had leveled the Backer who came  from Bronk's  side...the DE who took Desul's  place  Gave  Jo a extra push as he reached her late..and sent her rolling, though she  came up to  see the play...
 Bronk, Pivoted into  Payne and the two hit the ground, causing the  leftside backer to get tangled up as well...Bronk Looked up field  from Under the defenders
 Gerhart was already  at the  33..and Calrk was yelling  and Pointing to him, the rookie  was trying to Pivot  around..La Roi  kept  running..........
Well I'll be damned.  Not only am I getting another attempt, but this one is my kind of route.  Maybe that interception calmed her down.  He ran the route as directed, picking up the pass and taking a couple of steps to get away from La Roi's defender, surprised that he hadn't noticed what was going on.  Turning, he began working his path up the field, holding the ball securely.
 The  Rookie DB, Just missed  Bringing  Gerhart down...Clark, once again  made a solid  tackle..this  scriammge  was making him look good...Ball was now on the O's 43...4 plays  left
  The  rushed  back to the  BAll..all But La Roi who was walking  back after his sprint  down Field
  Coach Nevers went  bananas  again,Dammit ! La Roi! RUN!!!...you are paid to Run..dammit  run back!
  La  Roi Hustled  back  a bit  and Lined up outside again, Bronk whacked Gerharts  Pads on the way back,way to go..way to Go... he nodded to  Jo  as he took his  place in the  Slot...
 Lewis was shouting  at the D...he signaled into  Payne  and Worth who began to  bark out signals  as Jo  set up, Bronk  Turned  and said,Zone..Zone...
  Jo  Nodded, but  didn't  say a Thing...this  is what she needed to learn about these guys...and Underfire was a good  way to find out...She snapped the Ball.
  In the short  while these folks were together, The O LIne  began to move  and fireout..Sims   and Amota  spent alot of time Looking  for  guys  who..LIKED..to pass block..they hit  and Passed along defenders..the Zone  giving them a chance to set up a pocket.. Mik, didn't  see anyone so he took the left  flat..The Rightside  backer hustling  to try to catch him.. LA Roi Took off deep..never even bothered to look back...Bronk  Grinned..The backer  moving on Mik, the Corner on Laroi..Clark  Dropping  and reading... he Moved  down field  and curled in a nice opening at about 12 yards.....Stalls Curled up  Between Payne  and The outside backer..Worth  was over Top...Tibbs backpeddled  and stopped as Gerhart Curled out about 10  yards to the  side line......... Jo Noted all this  as the  shotgun snap  hit her hands, and she set her feet to throw......
Mik saw the Back coming in for Jo and took a sideways step to close off the angle, he set himself and waited for the guy to come close before using his lightning acceleration to deliver a hit the sent the back on the floor. Mik jumped back up and took a look around for any other danger coming close to Jo - he was determined to give her the proper time on this play.
  Mik  Hit the Linebacker who Hit  the ground, the  fellow was trying to get up As  the ball hissed Towards Gerhart again...Tibbs  and the outside  Linebacker  charging the  wide  out  as the ball came in helmet high..they all met 11 yards down field, where Gerhart  was knocked out of bounds.
  First down at the D's 46....3 plays  left.
  Jo ran up to the Line Her hand  whirling over her head to egt the Offense  to Lineup without  an Huddle.
  The Defense scrambled to keep up, the backs  settling into thier  spots, the Line men on both sides of the  ball huffing  anf  puffing  as they ran to thier Positions.
  Sims   and the extra wideouts and backs  followed the players up the Field and stood well back of the QB.  Lewis  was on the sidelines  with  his clipboard  as he made notes next to player's names, Letting  Payne  and Worth settle the team in.
  Jo read Zone, as did the  recievers...Bronk saying  something to La Roi who just just nodded his head rapidly.
  At the  snap of the ball, La Roi went to take off deep again, The  Rookie Corner  hit him in the  chest with both hands, the arm shiver  standing him Up  as he looked overly surprised.... Bronk Cut a skinny Post and Hooked up In the  space between Payne   and well Under Clark.
 Stalls, seeing that Payne  and  The Outside Linebacker on his side were Dropping,  Ran an out  at about 5
  Mik Flowed to the Flat, as there was no pressure...Gerhart had a Choice Between Curling  Behind  Stalls  and floating to the Middle...or Trying to  Push Tibbs  back  and Hook up......
The two giants stood next to each other, watching the warriors battle it out on the field.  Kane knew that if Diesel was half the player he seemed to be, he would be dying to get out there, just like Kane was.  Kane understood the D coach wanting to exert a little authority, but it didn't make sense to keep the two best defensive linemen he had sitting on the sidelines as spectators.
At the man's offer, Kane nodded, his eyes not leaving the field.
"Yeah, yeah, a training partner would be nice.  The only thing that seems to keep me off the field seems to be injuries.  Maybe you can show me a few exercises."
James clapped Clark lightly on the shoulder as he got up, feeling much better.  One for one, and decent yardage.  Not gonna get benched any time soon.  He nodded but said nothing to Bronk as his pads were slapped.  Little bastard thinks he's captain, may as well let him for now.
He was surprised to see a second pass come to him, leaning for the lines as he was hit to go out of bounds.  Getting up, he offered a tired smile to Alexia, nodding to Jo as he lined back up.  She's really going for the TD, but she's behind on yards.  She's not going for La Roi again, too risky.  Ivan won't get enough yards, and she's not going to me three times in a row.  Either Mik or Adam.
At the hut he took off, ready to move downfield, but Tibbs was quickly on him, and James knew not to let him get between him and the QB.  He's ready for a pick.  Knowing he wasn't far enough downfield, he curled anyways, moving for the emptier field up the middle.
  The  BAll  came  HArd  at Adam...the rightside  backer #56 williams..grinned  and turned, then frowned at the speed on the ball..He thought he had her, but the ball came out with authority, Williams forgot  about  the Ball  and tried to send  Bronk into the cheap seats. However, Highlight  hits don't  matter if the target doesn't  care.
  Bronk's Hands  were on the ball and Pulled in , to the Inside, The BAcker  whacked him sending him side ways a few yards, before he managed  to get his  feet under him  and turn  Up Field...Seeing Gerhart and Stalls, he ran towards  Stalls, figuring that was his best bet for a Block, Stalls Cut  Payne at the Ankles  and Bronk  Met Tibbs at the 25, Both players  fells  at the 23...Adam grinned  at Tibbs and hopped up  heading towards the Huddle. Sims  was there  as he called them all in to Huddle.
D's 23 2 plays  left
Right...we have  two plays  left..I want you to treat this as if it is before the half....La Roi will run a post, Adam, You out  and Up on his side...Stalls, Stay home  unless Jo tells you to go...Mik...to stay in for a count, the wheel  the same  sideline Adam takes...Gerhart, You'll have to read...you'll be doing alot of this if you make the team...You either get an out...or float the Middle...
  Sims  turns to Jo, Frankly..I do not  care who you throw to, as long  as its complete...La Roi  and Adam should have that side  Clear for  Mik...if they flood it with backers, Gerhart's gonna find a Hole..no matter what shakes out? Kats' coming on to Kick the next play.
  Jo Nodded  and they went up to the Line, at the  Snap, La Roi took off as if he was going deep, then cut to the Post about 10 yards into his pattern, Adam  Went  down 5 yards, the squared out, Put up his hands  as if to catch  a ball, then Turned  hard up the sideline, ground up tire bits  flying up as his  spikes churned the field turf.
  Stalls  stayed home  to  help with the  outside backer on his side, for the Moment...Jo..well..had a moment.
  Mik set up as if to  Block, the flowed out to  the Flat that Adam and  La Roi had  Cleared...#56 and Payne  were hustling over, but  would not get there before the ball would....Gerhart Looked up filed, Tibbs  was guarding the sideline, as Worth came over top....but  Gerhart's backer  was picked up on a blits, and Payne was heading towards Mik..he had the choice  of 8 yards either way.
Mik kept his weight on the balls of his feet as he moved down-field. He could see that Payne was coming for him and that he had a choice to make - sidelines or centre... In a split-second he saw where Bronk had gone and followed the path cut through the flats to give hime the space. He saw Payne coming and angled his run to the inside where he could use his pace and agility more - don't need to score but if I can then it's all gravy, he thought as he got ready to kick into top gear when he got the ball.
Mik felt the ball hit his hands and he made sure of the catch before glancing to see where Payne was - and he was glad to see Gerhart coming in to block the Back and give him an extra yard of space. He took a sidestep to put Gerhart between him and PAyne and then kicked into high gear with the ball protected and his head down.
He was sure that pace for pace there were few in the NFL that could match him over 20-yards, and he didn't think any of the backs on the Dragons would get to him now - he was going for the endzone.
A tall, young Mexican walked in through the gate to the stadium, dressed in jeans, cowboy boots, a white t-shirt, brown leather jacket and a cowboy hat. He watched as the snap was taken and noted the runs the blockers, HB and defense were making before nodding to himself - everyone looks fairly good out there, makings of a good team if it all gells.
Carlos took in the sights, smells and views of the stadium for a moment and grinned - this was where he should be, playing NFL and helping make history. He'd heard all about the work that was going into this team, the two female players, and he'd thought that it was about time the league was shaken up a little.
He was carrying his kitbag round the track towards where the coaches were standing, and he put it down and removed his hat before speaking, "Coach Sims? I'm Carlos Salcido sir, rookie LOLB reporting for camp." Then he waited for the coach to respond. There was no way Carlos would further intrude upon his concentration in the middle of a play, so he turned his head to watch as the ball sailed into Mik's hands and he took off. the QB seemed to throw quick but he thought that there should have been more pressure on her anyway to give the corners a chance at picking off a stray throw - he'd try and see if she had the nerves if he got onto the field today.
 Sims took a Quick Glance at Carlos,well..welcome then,,we don't  have  Much scrimmage left..the 2nd  teams  will be going in shortly..
  His  eyes  went  back to the Field as Mik Kicked it In, Clark was the Olny fellow who had a chance to reach Him, Payne  was slowled by a chip on his  side from a diving Gerhart...marginally close to a clip, but the Refs didn't  say anything. The Two met  at the one, the clack of  pads louder then one  would think for a normal team's  scrimmage. Mik  landed with a bounce a yard deep in the endzone.
The stadium erupted once again as Mik crossed the white line and scored the second touchdown of the scrimmage.  The cheerleaders had been standing relatively still and motionless for the last couple of plays, watching the action on the field.  Once the touchdown was scored and music erupted from the speakers, Alexia led the girls in a routine touchdown celebration.  The squad on both side of the field twisted and kicked in close rthymn, though Alexia saw some of the rookies struggling to keep up with the freshly memorized moves.  Flames erupted from the end-zone dragons and Alexia could feel the heat even at this distance.  Pom-poms flashing in the sun, the squad ended the cheer, several calling out encouragement to the players on the field, while others cheered specifically for Mik.  Several long and tanned athletic legs kicked into the air as the PAT team ran onto the field.
  The  two grinned as they snapped thier chin straps, ready to take the field
  Fillings  began to warm up, he  would take the last 10 plays of  today's  scrimmage. He was none too happy as he was assured he was to be  a "mentor"  and the two rookies , along  with Bronk  would handle whatever Quarterbacking  was to be had...looking at the  smallish wideout  he chuckles," ...The Wild Hamster..." Lewis called the few goal line plays Bronk  might be called on to run...still..it  did  feel good to throw again.
Mik grinned as he was helped up and saluted Jo, James Adam and even La Roi - after all they'd been instrumental in making that play turn into a score. He stayed on the field to take the snap for the PAT for Kat and make sure that nobody got near her this time. He saw some huge folks on the touchline, defense players more than likely and thought that they looked like just what was ordered. He grinned at Ivan who seemed in a good mood but put the thought out of his mind quickly as he just focused on setting the ball when the time came.
Carlos looked at the player who had spoken to him, "Ah yeah I get you partner, thanks. Be bad to get on the coach's bad side before I even get out there. Name is Carlos Salcido, be out in a minute." he grinned and tipped his hat at the guy and went in the indicated direction to get changed into his pads.
He came out dressed in his gear a few minutes later, his nervous energy turned his dressing into a speed-fest. He jogged out to where Coach Lewis was standing and introduced himself, "Coach Lewis sir? My name is Carlos Salcido and I just got in from Texas, actually the Texans just passed their option on me so I was invited to come to camp here. Coach Sims told me to let you know that I been signed to play defense for you sir. Normally play as a blitzing LOLB and just love stopping the outside runs too" he hesitated for a moment "Just glad to be here, eager to burn off some of this energy sir." he said with a slightly embarrassed grin on his face.
His parents had reminded him to not let his mouth wander and try to absorb instructions rather than letting his nerves come out as babbling, he'd already made a bad start on that front he thought. He'd make a more determined effort now though. As he waited for the coach to let him know what he wanted from him, he glanced sideways at the big fellow standing close by that had warned him earlier and the others on the sidelines - they were a match for anything the Texans had, this team had slipped under many radars and were a bit of a joke to most Texas folk but he was sure they'd prove their doubters wrong.
Kane grunted as the speedy running back dove over the goal line.  The defense had been pretty much pushed around out there and here he was observing it on the sideline.  If he was making good money, he could have consoled himself with that fact as he played the part of an observer.  But his contract had been rewritten, as had most of the others, to be very incentive heavy and each moment he stood on the sideline was another opportunity lost to get playing time and make money.  He wasn’t sure what the D coach was ranting about.  He and Diesel had just been discussing training programs and the old man had jumped all over their case, reminding them they needed to play in order to make any money.  As if that fact wasn’t painfully obvious.
Kane shifted his weight slightly from foot to foot, his grasp on his helmet tightening slightly.  Maybe the old man would put him in for the next series.
As he made his way he spoke to Kane and Diesel, "I'm a run-stopper and I am used to lining up sacks. Press called me 'Crunch' back in Texas when I played for the Longhorns. What's your guys specialities?"
As he talked he eyed the runningbacks and the QB with an interest, searching for strengths and weaknesses already that would dictate his plan of attacks. Of course, if it looked like a passing play then he would just mow down the QB and try to get a fumble. He was a little late to the camp and just hoped that did not harm his chances of getting a starting slot when the NFL season opened.
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
Carlos took off running as soon as the snap was called, itching to take down the QB, but then he saw the back take the ball and altered his run to intercept. He had to shrug off a blocker that was trying to delay him from getting to the runner, no more than a split-second lost there as he hit the guy with authority and used his right arm to push him over on the run.
He saw Klay trying to dummy a run to the inside which could have given him the space he wanted if Carlos had not read the ploy. As he grabbed hold of the back, Carlos twisted around and wrapped his big arms around the shoulders of the runner whilst he squeezed tightly. This 'Crunch' tackle had gained him many fumbles in the past, but not this time as Klay managed to hold onto the ball as the spun to the floor.
They hit the field together and on impact Carlos released the grip and sprang up holding out his hand to help the HB up. "Got a bit excited there, hope you're alright partner", he said looking down at Klay, "just had a bad few days and that's the first hit I have been allowed to make since I got drafted."
He helped up Klay who nodded at 'Crunch' before making his way back to the huddle, and the young rookie made his way back to the line for another play.
At the snap Gerhart tried to size up his defender but hadn't seen much of him before.  Seeing the lane he altered course for it.  After all, empty field was hard to find on this team.
As soon as Kat's foot touched the ball Mik lifted his hand away and spun around to block any backs coming in to stop it. He was greeted with the sight of a jersey up close before he'd even stood up and there was a loud thump as both players collided with each other, landing in a tangled heap on the ground. Mik struggled to catch his breath for a second and finally took a look at who'd hit him - Carlos.
Getting to his feet Mik helped the young rookie up, "Nice hit, but next time try to block the ball instead of hitting the kicker or holder eh?" He gave the rookie a grin.
"Couldn't get to the ball sir, the full-back was in the way." Carlos nodded towards Ivan, "Thought I could possibly knock you and your arm may flail into it and take it off course, sir. Best I could do in a tight spot." he shrugged and dusted himself down.
They both nodded to each other and went their separate ways but as Mik walked he thought, That kid needs experience and someone to guide him past the pitfalls, the package is there but it's damn rough. As he made his way to the sidelines he stretched out his right arm as the hit had jarred his shoulder slightly.
Re: May  Minicamp Day 2
Alexia had gathered the squad close to the players group as the coaches made their various announcements.  At the mention of the party that night, several girls on the team jumped up and down, clapping their hands.  Alexia herself couldn't help but smile.  A party would be an excellent to mingle with the new players and get to know them better.
Before dimissing the squad, Alexia pulled them aside and went over a few things with them.  She noted areas where they needed to work on and reminded the new girls that their jobs were every bit as athletically demanding as the players so they needed to get into shape in a hurry.  The squad was expected to be back on the field tomorrow morning where they would go over the routines done today and also work on some new ones.  Then in the afternoon, they would be back on the sidelines as the players took the field.  And, of course, they would be participating in the mandatory autograph signing session as well.
Before dimissing them, Alexia reminded the ladies that they were representing the Dragonettes tonight.  She wanted everyone to have fun at the party and she wanted each and every one of them to show up looking as sexy as hell.  If they weren't smoking hot when they arrived, Alexia would have no problem sending them home before the night even started.  She told them all to come and plan on having a night that no one would soon forget.  Alexia then led the girls off the field and to the ladies locker room.
