Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

Alexia watched the QB competition with some interest.  Not only was it the most important position on the team and therefore the most critical for the Dragons to find a suitable candidate, but Alexia was also curious as to how the female would do.  She was joined at her side by Nika and Shira, the two silent presences that were always close by.  The three women watched the series of throws.  Alexia had to admit that the girl did have an arm on her.

"She good", Nika said in her broken English.

Alexia nodded, her eyes never leaving the field.

"Yes, she looks good in practice.  When she doesn't have a 300 pound lineman rushing her.  But let's see how good she is once she takes a professional hit.  My bet is she is riding the bench for the season.  Mr. Sims doesn't want to be held responsible for a pretty little thing like that getting seriously hurt.  Can you imagine the PR hit the team would take?"

She knew that the twins didn't fully understand every word she had said, but she knew that they get the essence of the message.  On Joanna's next throw, the entire squad turned to watch the path of the ball.  As it descended, as if in slow motion, several gasps were heard from the cheerleaders as the series of events unfolded and the mind leaped ahead to the possible conclusions.

Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

Kat braced herself as she was still heading full speed towards Adam, and the football spiraling towards him.

"Adam! You're about to hit that wall! STOP!"

Kat also made an adjustment on the ball and wide receiver, the world felt like it was running in slow motion, or she was? Kat took another breath and stepped forward, her hands up, hoping that an INT, along with her shout to Adam would stop potential disaster here...

Adam's grin  was wide, Nothing like a ball in the air, you and the ball...there were mummurs, none really sank in until he heard Kat's Voice...and the word 'wall'...he didn't  think it possible..he wasn't running for that long...the tell tale sounds  of Breathing  Coming closer..Adam reacted as he saw a pair of hands, he jumped for all he was worth...two sets  of hands on the BAll, before  Long HAir  lashed across his Facemask. The right  arm Tucked in the  ball the  other arm Around the player...as his  his mind's eye told him who the player  might be... Landing On his  back, The ball in one arm A Kat atop as they slide into the tables  , the Poweraid Coolers   Jumping into the air to Dump fruit  Punch on the hapless Dragons... Looking up from Under the Fruitpunch soaked Hair of KAt  and trying  valiently to get his  Breath...His  left arm held up the ball and waved it  about...he managed to ask  Kat , between gaspsYou....OK?..."

The two  Boys looked  down at the  fruitpunch colored Dragons,we'er sorry...honest..we always set up here...

Adam tries to sit up with out Dumping Kat  to the ground, there is no excsue for this!"  the boys  eyes got big as he added,I wanted Lime drink! then he  grined at the boys...

the boys  started to laugh until the  head of the staff came over  yelling at them to refill the containers  and move them to the edge of the track.

Up field La Roi shook his head, what do you do with a guy like that?

Worth  nodded and began put his  helmet back on A fast guy...that can catch? And don't worry nothing  about bein hit?...You start him..." Worth made his  way back to the defensive folks.

Nilie breathed out a sigh of relief when Kat made the move on the ball, even though they bounced a bit..it could have been worse..Yuto was laughing as he turned to Coach Sims. You know..Adam-san would have ran through wall..right?table..no table..."

  Sims Nods,That's why he's here...

Nevers and Fry..running  down the  field when  the  dball was in the  air staood over the tangled  Dragons, Nevers nods to KatDamn quick thinkin girl...the only thing  to stop this one, is  someone tryin' ta  take the ball off'em..Ya saved us a wide out!

Fry growled  at Nevers,Your  Wideout better not have damaged  my kicker, dammit! You ok Kat? dammit...I have plans on you leading the league in scoring..you best not be hurt!..what were  you thinkling!"

Nevers  snarled,"... she lets  this one get hurt? she's not getting to kick anything!"

the two coaches were face to face  yaping away,  Adam handed the ball to KAt,"..so?...Come here often?"

Mik Watched the new QB throw the ball to Adam, "Nice arm there eh?". He winced slightly as he saw the kids downfield and then again when Kat ran to intercept. Still Adam caught it and nothing bad had happened except a few coolers getting overturned.

"Well that was ... interesting eh? At least he caught it."
He gave the woman an appraising smile, "Arm like yours and hands like his, we could bi in shape to rack some points this season eh?"

He offered her his hand, "Names Mikhail but, eh, people just call me Mik. I'm the running back - though I think we'd better amend that to blocking back seeing as we got offensive options that the coaches prefer." He chuckled softly, "Not that I mind at all, it's just great to have a shot at the NFL."

Then he jogged downfield to make sure both Kat and Adam were ok.

Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

Jo felt bad in a way. Those kids could've gotten hurt and it would've been her fault. She should've prepared better. As she watches Adam she is thankful. One he still caught the ball. And two...no one seem injured. That was good. He was quick but she would have to work more with him. If she could determine his jumping in...they might make other teams flinch.

She cracks a smile at Woody again. He was good for one thing...short yardage. But when you needed a big play you wanted someone with an arm and speed. Then she looks at the rest of them. Jo made a note to herself...all eyes seemed focused on her at the moment. That was scary.

Then she turns to Steele."Steele you should know hitting doesn't bother me. Or did you forget when the Bulldogs beat you guys last year."

A couple of the cheerleaders let out small shrieks at what appeared to be an impending collision between the wide receiver and the female kicker.  Alexia herself remained outwardly calm, though her heart had started to beat faster and one hand had strayed to her chest in unconscious concern.  The squad let out a collective sigh of relief when it seemed that everyone was okay and the only thing damaged was a few gallons of Gatoraide.

Alexia turned to see the squad transfixed by what had happened, some in the middle of their yoga poses.  She clapped her hands sharply a few times to get their attention.

"All right ladies! Show's over.  Looks like everyone is as warmed up as they are going to be.  So get your butts over here and get some pom-poms!"

The squad scrambled to their feet and trotted over to two large cardboard boxes that Alexia had had brought to the field.  They each took a turn reaching in to grab a set of pom-poms, the brightly colored strips of plastic twinkling and reflecting the sun.

You are running Outs at 10..when you catch the ball..and you damn well better catch the ball..you switch lines. After all recievers have cylcled through, the next two OBs  step  up and we do it again...3 step drops..Wideouts , get your heads around..QBs..if they aren't looking, take thier heads off... Lets  go!"

La Roi stepped  up  to get in Steele's  line first, before they went to thier hash  marks ( Steele on the  left hash, Jo on the right) he whispers to her,87...no hands..no guts...

Steele  said Hut, La Roi broke out of his stance and  rounded off the cut , rather then make it sharpe...Steele fires the ball like an arrow, hitting the surprised LA Roi in the chest..and it bounced to the ground..

Sims  and Nevers   shouted at the same  time,Dammit..what the hell's  wrong  with you! That's a lap after practice..."

Everything in him was alternately screaming not to stand out off the field or to be a leader. When he reached the coach, he asked Hey coach, want us to run some seven on seven? The defensive coordinator wants us to get some practice too...

He ran his first out at 10 making a quick turn to catch the ball in motion, then tossed it to a waiting helper before joining the other line.

Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

Jo goes into her stance waiting for her receivers then she notes one is Woody. Oh well it wouldn't be too bad she guessed. It was only 10...should be easier for him that way. As she drops back she notes again the pain in her ribs...damn...that was going to be a nuisance. She looks for the open man(in her mind picturing the dbs.) and also for the most prepared. Surprisingly Woody was eager for it. Hell it was a shot for him to look good.

Jo releases a perfect spiral that goes the short yardage right into the numbers of Woody who does come up with it. He looks surprised then Jo laughs. This was more like it.

Jo grabs another ball then looks around as another receiver steps up as she looks at #87 and then notes as they go out and she steps back one of the receivers wasn't paying any attention. That wasn't good. It was an opportunity though. Jo tosses another ball this time with more ummphh on it...the ball sails quickly nailing the target in the back as he never turns around to catch it.

Jo frowns but looks at the coach."Sir...we have someone asleep out there. Course you did say take their heads off. But I figured...with my arm...I might do it literally and opted for his back."

As the receiver comes back he looks daggers at Jo and she looks at him."Hey lameoid if you would've been paying attention that would've been a completion. If you fall asleep you cost the team in the end. If you can't give a 100 % at all times you don't deserve to be on the field. Woody might only be looking to impress Hollywood...but at least he caught the ball dumbass."

Re: May  Minicamp Day 2

Kat felt herself go up with Adam. Unlike the receiver, she was unable to make a second adjustment on the ball in the air...she was a kicker, not a bloody cornerback. She felt Adam pull a Randy Moss and one hand the ball, while tucking her over top to protect her from the impact. Why wasn't this guy a starter?

And then, the Powerade containers tipped over, and Kat felt herself get doused in the stuff. She came up from the tangle of tables, containers, cups, and Adam, sputtering. She hated Fruit Punch.

Kat cast a sour look at the two boys who were in charge of refreshments. They were the reason she was soaked in the first place. She shot them a glare, earning her nickname well. She sat slowly, scooting off of Adam in time for Coach Nevers and Coach Fry to come over and begin their amazement/argument. Kat smiled as Mik also ran over and took his hand up. She snatched a towel from one of the refreshment boys and walked over to Coach Fry.

"Coach, I'm good, honest. We're cool. Just...keep the damn refreshment idiots off the field..."

Kat glanced over to the two boys specifically.

"...and make sure it's not fruit punch!"

Kat walked off, toweling off as she went, taking a seat on the bench near where Alexa and her cheerleaders were. Kat sighed and toweled off her hair for a second time.

Adam shook his head as he took off his helmet, he asked on of the  boys  to wash it out  with water, so it wasn't stickey. As he  walked  up the field with KAt he said, sorry about that...just saw your hands and reacted...nice  play though...

His trademark half-smile  faded a bit  as  he  head to Steele's line to   run his patterns, helmet or no helmet, until the kids  got it cleaned out.

He ran his  pattern hard, just like it was in-game...Muscle memory was what it was all about...you did things full out..so game time came, you didn't tip off the bad guys, and everyone knew you were ready.

He snaged Steele's  pass and tunred up fields  for about 10 yards, then  jogged back towards Jo's Line. One of the boys caught up to him and handed him his helmet. La Roi was two players in front of him and says,Nice  catch, for gopin up against a Girl...

Adam chuckled  as he looked at the Dragon decal on his helmet, hey La Roi...you don't have one of these on...and you still got the adhesive tape with yur name on..what does that mean?"

Brutus was doing his best to look good till the other players were ready for the scrimmage. He was kicking the ball himself and it would go sailing then he would run to where it was heading turning to get into his punt return stance then make the grab then go sailing.

As he does he makes sure he goes through his usual cuts and moves just to show the coaches he knew what he was doing. This was all he had. He didn't make the Dragons and he would no longer being playing pro ball.

Mik made sure that he caught each ball and snapped on his turns properly. He'd been working on his catching after playing the first half of last seasons playing Tight-end in Canada due to a run on injuries to the main receivers and was glad of that work now.

After one of the throws from Joanna Black he turned after the catch to her, 'Nice arm you got there' and gave her a grin before jogging over to the other line. Now we have strength in depth for key positions too this team will turn some heads in this season, he thought silently whilst waiting and watching for others weakness he'd have to cover during games, I think we should make playoffs with a decent start.

"I have  three options here, Kat. If you can Punt and kick, we save three roster spots for the wideouts that we will be going through. This offense is gonna be tough on them. If you don't  want to run down under kickoffs, I can try and pick a punter who can kickoff, from the waiver wire...BUT..."

He leaned closer to her...

" I don't  want ya to punt, if its gonna screw up your placekicking. We need the points, more then we need a roster spot..so...tell me the truth...what are yer thoughts?"

Kat looked up at Coach, before grabbing a bottle of water and dousing her head with it. She needed to rinse out all of the Powerade before it became a sticky mess. So far, the water did fine. She rinsed it once more with another bottle before dying her head again.

It was true, in college, Kat had practiced place-kicking and punting, but when it came to games, the only time she'd had to punt was when the punter was injured. Did she think she could handle it? In truth, Kat didn't know, but she also didn't want to risk it given that she wasn't an established kicker yet.

She shook her head to Coach Fry.

"I practiced punting, Coach, but I never did it during games unless our punter was injured. I handled kick-offs and field goals and PATs. And I'm more than willing to do that here, but I dunno if you want me punting when you could sign a vet to do it. I mean, until I learn it at the NFL level, you know?"
