Re: OOC # 34
Wow...miss a few weeks, and it's almost overwhelming catching back up! (I'm not caught up yet...just finally got through the rest of the E-1 scenario, still getting through the post-mission stuff, but I also have to post something to another game that I've been neglecting for even longer than this one...)
Very sad to hear about Robyn's passing. Glad that Lizzy's got someone to take over, she's been a definite force in this game and I'm glad that her energy will not just vanish. Nancy, welcome to the game, and I hope it helps you process her loss.
I had hoped to be back to the game sooner, as I usually manage to get back to things as soon as we open shows...but opening day spun into other challenges, and next thing I knew, all of June had passed without me so much as looking at RPOL. I feel like things are settling down a bit... *knocks on wood*
Yeah, I bought a motorcycle. I had one in college, I've been telling myself I wanted one for years (pretty much every summer since I stopped riding my old one). I finally felt like I was in a situation where, financially, I could manage it...and then gas prices kept going up and it stopped being a "this would be fun" idea and became a "just think how much better gas mileage they get!" idea (I haven't calculated my exact fuel efficiency yet, but it's somewhere above 50mpg, which beats the hell out of the 16mpg my Pathfinder gets). Plus, I needed to have work done on my Pathfinder (round one has been the alternator and battery), but I needed transportation while it was in the shop. The cycle's a 2004 Honda Shadow 750 Aero, and it's a pretty nice ride, so far. I haven't taken it very far yet, but it's a world of difference from the '81 CM400 I had in college!
I've also gotten back into theater outside of the park (which hasn't happened in a few years, at least during the summer!) The city produces a show every summer as part of the Independence Day festivities...this year, they're doing Shrek, and apparently the director started asking around for suggestions for makeup artists, and my name kept coming up. It's also apparently the summer for Shrek, in northern Utah, because a week after they asked me to do it, another city contacted me about helping with makeup for THEIR production...and then a regional theater asked me if I could help with theirs, as well. I'm only doing the one, however, because...
I got cast in a show. The surprising thing is, I never auditioned for it or even expressed any interest in it...Footloose is not on my (very short!) list of musicals I'd like to do. But I've worked with the director before, and with several of her kids through the high school where I've been doing makeup for years. One day, out of the blue, she messaged me and said she'd had someone drop out of her show and would I be available and willing to take a role? It's short, I'm only in a handful of scenes and only have lines in two or three, I don't have any 'real' dance choreography (unlike all the kids!), and I don't have any solos as far as singing...which is the biggest reason I even considered saying yes. Then I listed all of my conflicts for the summer (and there are a LOT!), and she got back to me a day later and said, "Yep, we can work with those." So, I'm missing Footloose rehearsals to do Shrek, and then I couldn't do Shrek again because of Footloose...*laugh*
Anyway, I'm hoping to finish catching up over the next day or two, and be back to my semi-regular posting. Happy Independence Day, to all of us stateside!
