As my wife is learning FReD, due to a move to a new group soon.  I have been contemplating running a Urban Fantasy game using FReD, and set in the Dresden Files universe.

Would anyone else here be interested in such a thing?

Sounds like fun, though my experience with the Dresden universe is limited to watching 2-3 episodes of the TV series.

I do have one spellcaster in my portfolio, though, an immortal necromancer who went back in time and is technically older than human civilization. But he's really a nice guy.

I have the 5th edition, and would like to play. But I don't know a single thing about the "Dresden Files".

More than likely, in one form or another. I actually have three versions of the character, though mechanically they are almost the same. 1) He used to be part of an evil cult, and runs back to the past. Being a necromancer with time on his hands (and a demon's power to draw on) he becomes immortal. 2) Still part of an evil cult, but when he runs, he lands in Hades, interrupting a feast for the various gods of Death, and meets himself. His older self bargains with the death gods so he can act as a messenger for them, in return for giving his younger self immortality, which will give him the time he needs to track an evil artifact through time. 3) He was never part of a cult, but he is a very nice guy who happens to like having undead creatures around to fight for him, and serve his guests tea.

The original inspiration for the character was the idea 'what if you combined Doctor Who with Harry Dresden, and made him a necromancer?'

I know nothing about the dresden files either so I can't say if I would be interested or not. I am not big on horror if that is its theme.

Dresden Files is kindof like Harry Potter, in that there is magic, and dragons, and all that, but the normal person doesn't know about it. However, Dresden Files is a lot darker, from what I remember.

Its more of a cross between Harry Potter and Anita Blake, minus any sex.  With the main character being a wizard, from the old style of staff wielding.. no wands and flicking of the wrist.

As for the older than humanity necromancer, that would be a character more suited to an NPC than a player character.

I could definitely try, provided I can find the time.
